Is this correct, great just what i need another remote!!!!! Its about time to get a Logitech lol.

I think that the Cable box can still run through the receiver. I live in Canada but my satellite 3D feed still passes through my Harmon AVR354 1.3 receiver.

Great to hear. I posted because I was going through the over-analyzing of the buy and thought someone else might me as well.

Hmm ill have to try again. I tried last night to run my Direct TV DVR through my 1.3 receiver. When i tuned to a Direct TV 3D channel it would say that your TV is not 3D compatible or something along those lines.

But i can still use the 2D to 3D feature. Kinda seems weird at first thought. But when i connect my Direct TV DVR directly to the TV. I could tune into the 3D channels. I gave up last night being i was getting frustrated. I slept on it and ready to try again lol.

I have one shot at this with the Finance Committee (wife)
Maybe these links will help:

There is a forum on this site as well that talks about 240 v 120.

Also, in my mini-review, it was 2d of lord of the rings I watched. I found that it tended to smooth the image a little too much for my liking. I would suggest you look at last years LG models both 120 versus 240 next to one another. Also, get them to put on a movie that has CGI characters in a live setting. Found it very distracting as the CGI popped out and looked overlayed to the scene. Again, I am basing this on my own preferences and vision but it was enough for me to figure it wasn't needed.

My previous TV i was using its HDMI repeater feature in the Sony system being i could not access the HDMI ports on the back of the TV because of the slim profile wall mount. So that came in handy. So i just had one HDMI going to the side of the TV, & than the rest of my sources going to the receiver.

I do not think it has 3D pass through which sucks being this set is just about new. Funny when i bought it i remember saying ahh 3D i wont get it this year lol. It does have two optical inputs however. So would i have to run HDMI cables directly to for 3 devices? Or would running my sources via hdmi to the TV and then 1 optical cable to my receiver from the TV work? Ugh, its always something lol!I can't wait to explain to my GF i have to take the TV off the wall again and run more wires haha.

Is there any logical way to make my current "box" surround system work unitl i move and than upgrade to a much better custom built system so to speak.

Thanks.

I don't think the optical out from the display to your receiver passes Dolby 5.1. Kind of a bummer, especially when I have to tell my wife we now need a Denon 4311...LOL. I get around the problem on Blu-ray because I have a Panny 350 with 2 HDMI outputs. That one fell in my lap last summer when the BB near my office had a clearance sale when they decided to upgrade the internal BB/Magnolia store to a real Magnolia and they sold one to me for 1/2 price.
Ugh, i know what you mean mrjktcvs lol. I have to explain to the GF today about the receiver thing myself, never ends. Maybe BB will allow me to return the free LG blu ray player for a store credit towards a receiver. I am sure that would help ease the pain with the GF lol.

Their policy does say you can return free gifts, i think you just get the markdown price. Which in my case would be $150. Which is ok with me being i really do not need it. I use my PS3 for blu ray and 3D.

I read your review with great interest. A couple of questions for you:
- How are the black levels on your 5600, especially if the room light is relatively dim?
- I saw a 47WL5600 at Fry's yesterday running a typical animated feature which looked great but I thought that the picture started to lose its vibrancy at relatively shallow angles. The set is reputed to have very good viewing angles for an LCD\\LED so this was surprising but it was mounted on a wall above eye level so this may have been a factor. Have you been able to assess the point at which you start to see the image fade?

Thanks in advance.

Ok, was finally able to try out some gaming last night on my 47LW5600 used game mode and did not notice horrible lag mabey just slight lag but nothing that I can't deal with. Over all I am very happy with my purchase now I need a new sound bar because my 3 year old Sony was not able to pass the 3D signal to the TV via HDMI any sugesstions I was looking at the new LG LSB316 Thanks.

In a totally dark room how does the black levels look on the 55LW5600. I have the 55LW6500 on pre order...but if the black levels are deep black and not gray on the LW5600..I might pop for the LW5600 due to price. Black levels are important to me. 120hz-240hz is not.

I am happy with the black levels in a dark room it is better than my samsung LN46B750 but I'm not sure that any LED-LCD can produce perfect Blacks thats
why they have that local dimming feature.

They look super black to me.. maybe not plasma black but fairly close. My family certainly hasn't noticed any different. I'm not sure that the black levels would be any different on the 6500 anyway. I personally wouldn't pay the extra for 240 over 120 either.

Ok so just got back from BB & got a Sony 7.1 channel receiver with 3D pass through. Hopefully i will be ok using my current Sony Sony HT SS370 home theatre system speakers for a few weeks until i can upgrade my speakers. I obviously wont be able to crank it up do to the power of my new receiver. But anything is gonna be better than the stock TV speakers for now lol. Do you guys think i will be ok as long as i don't crank it up?

They allowed me at BB to return the free 3D blu ray player i got in the package deal. Which took the price down on the receiver. I am gonna start looking at some speaker sets to match up with the receiver.

Finally i can enjoy 3D content on Direct TV & my PS3 without it sounding like a tin can lol. Lets hope i don't blow out the speakers so i can sell my Sony HT SS370 being its only about 2 months old. I wont need it that loud anyway being the size of the room is not that big.

I have my eye on a Klipsch - HD Theater 500 5.1-Channel Home Theater Speaker System with Powered Subwoofer. But that is in a month or so when i can butter my GF up to that lol. I am lucky enough i got the 3D passthrough receiver for now lol.

Oh and i find the blacks to be great for a LED LCD. Matter fact i think the blacks are better than my LG PK750 plasma. The TV also looks awesome in a dark room. I was watching Blade 2 & Hellboy earlier on Direct TV. Two dark type movies and they looked great. Even though its local dimming "edge lit". Its much better then it being just edge lit with no local dimming. So far i have used the medium setting on local dimming.

Thanks for the information on the black levels...I think I'm going with this set over the LW6500.

Good choice in my book.

My 55LW5600 showed up yesterday (the BD670 Blu-ray player that was part of the bundle showed up last Saturday). I only had time to get it hooked up and watch for a little while, but thought that both the Cinema mode and the two ISF/Expert modes looked very decent right out of the box, whereas Standard mode was a bit over-bright, etc. (And "Vivid" mode even more so!). I didn't look at any real 3D content, but did turn on the 2D->3D conversion, and in fact the artificial 3D didn't look too bad. More "layered" than real 3D-camera 3D, sort of like 3D animated content.

Next steps are getting the wireless networking going for both TV and player. Then on to the settings...

I noticed that in the initial power-up sequence, it lets you choose between setting the set up for actual use ("Home"), or for store demo mode.

Did anyone try using the store demo setting? Does this actually give access to some built-in store-demo content? Or is it just a way to set the picture defaults to "Vivid+++"? I guess I also don't know if there is a way to go back and bring up the store demo mode, and then return later to "Home" mode.....

I got my combo from Buydig.com, as they had a LARGE discount (via a coupon that showed up at check-out). (The price was so much lower than anyone else, that I kept thinking they'd contact me with a correction.) It took a while for the TV to get trucked across the country, but everything showed up on schedule, and in good shape. Don't know if the special deal is still there, though. (Later edit - no, the current price has been raised up a couple of hundred bucks, although it is still a good price.)

Can these LG sets input 1080p/24p natively? Or if they input a 24p signal do they convert it to 60p? I like these but want to make sure they can natively display (passthru) 24p signals. Thanks!

I looked all over the internet for a week or so for information on the 65" model couldnt find a thing. I found a great deal on the 55" so i pulled the trigger. The only passive 3d 65 incher i found was a vizio... which had a much higher price tag.

A not too flattering review of the 55" LW650T here:-

Yea i seen the 65" Vizio at Sams club. It is a bit pricey & it has a glass gloss screen. Was LG the worlds first passive 3D tv? I swore the 65" vizio has been out for quite a bit.

I belive the Vizio came out a little before, but not by much
post #353 of 8097
The Vizio came out last year around Christmas iirc. So that would make it the first passive to the market.

I bought the set 3 days ago. And everytime I turn 3d SBS on, it crops about an inch off of the sides. Anyone else having this problem, or a solution. LG support is no help. Also, I have the newest firmware on both the TV and the Player.

TV: LG 55LW5600
Player: BD670
Oh ok i thought so. I think i read the sticker wrong that my LG came with. It says the worlds first "certified" flicker free TV lol. I thought it just said the worlds first flicker free.

The vizio seems to be a nice set. But i agree the price has to come down a bit. Although i think they did take off around $300 on it last time i was at Sam's club.

I belive that is part of the deal with passive technology. No solution as far as i know

Yes I know, perhaps the issues are just with the 55" or they received a bad unit (it happens). Interesting nonetheless...

I was pleasantly surprised to see that they even tested games on the review. Granted they did not give it high marks for that which is disappointing. I may be in the market for a new TV soon and was considering this set, but if gaming on it is going to be a problem I will most likely pass since gaming is one of the main things I will do with the new set.
