this is the bleeding I am talking about
(sorry for the crappy pic my camera sucks its super old)

it seems to only be the left side thats bleeding, but its very visible. when I first set up the tv it was coming from all corners really really really bad. but I did some firmware updates and it fixed that. then i did some calibrations and it got even better, but its still rather anoying. is this normal? if its not should I call for service? or is there settings i can tweak?

Does anyone have a recent model Onkyo working over CEC (probably anything from the xx9 series would respond similarly)? I have the latest firmware installed on both devices.

I have an Onkyo TX-NR609 and 55LW5600, and I was about to post the same question, because I have also found that the receiver does not wake up when turning on the tv. All other HDMI control functions seem to work as expected.

I noticed the following rather vague comment on page 85 of the receiver's user manual, in the section on HDMI:
The AV receiver will automatically power on in
conjunction when it determines it to be necessary. Even if
the AV receiver is connected to a compatible
TV or player/recorder, it will not power on if it is not
necessary. It may not power on in conjunction when the TV
is set to output audio from the TV.
I have the receiver sending the cable signal from a TivoHD via pass-through when off, so I wonder if this is somehow making the receiver decide that it's "not necessary" for it to turn on with the tv(?).

I'd really like to just have the receiver come on with the tv power, so my family only needs to use the Tivo remote. Any suggestions?

Is there a way to connect an external hard drive to this TV and use it as a DVR? Does the TV have software for this?

Only weird thing is that I have to cycle back to "TV" mode on my sony blu ray htib player (even if its already on it) to enable the sound.

Hope this helps some of the HTIB owners out there!

Also, is it just me or are the THX settings too dark and warm? How do I edit the THX settings? Seems like all of the options are grayed out. After some FW updates, standard looks pretty good now. Granted this is based on watching FIOS as I haven't tried a blu ray on this yet but it seems too yellow and dull. Even in fairly dark light. Haven't run my calibration discs yet either.

I found the THX settings to be a bit warm as well. To change those settings you need to go to settings page with the THX chosen and on the LG remote and hit 8741 on the remote (see post no. 6381 for more info).

Seamonkey420,
Is LG sending a tech out or were you able to get a fix over the phone? Thanks.

Make sure your Aspect Ratio isn't set to "Just Scan".

Makes me a little cautious about purchasing this TV. Is this on all the LG TV's ?
Leaning on buying this set, but....
I would say its worth the purchase, the picture quality for the price is fricking astounding, never have I had such a vivid picture. the bleeding is yes anoying, but you can get it minimum, but pretty sure its a flaw to have any, think we all just got unlucky with slightly damaged units, but LG has amazing customer service when it comes to sending out techs etc

But as far as the "lag" goes... Have you set your Refreash hz to 59hz for the TV? You will need to do so by Right Clicking on your desktop>Screen Resolution> Select your TV>Advanced Settings>Monitor Tab> Select "59Hertz" under monitor settings> "OK" and this will typically Eliminate most if not all of the lag. Just set the Video Control Panel setting to 60hz for the TV but change the setting above for actual operation. If you still get a little lag on occassion and have a small monitor (old one still?) hooked up to that same PC (Dual monitor "extended" setup), try Setting the Small monitors Refresh to 59hz using the same method. You can also use something called "UltraMon" (32 or 64bit) to setup how a "Playback Software" ICON will open the program as well. ON a Monitor of your Choice, Full screen, Refresh Rate and all...

I Replaced every piece of hardware in my first HTPC build Twice!!! Tried 4-5 Different Types of Software for Blu-Ray playback and this was the Issue...

Hope it works for you... I have Windows 7 64bit but it should work similarly in XP...

I tried your option but i don't get the 59hz option.

I'm almost 100% sure that you have a bad HDMI cable, as that's exactly what it looked like when I had a bad cable. Some of the signal is getting interfered with and you're losing data.

Yeah I have a LW5700 set which is basically the same as the 5600 without the local dimming feature (at least without accessing the Service menu), and even without local dimming, I don't get that much bleed. Something is definitely wrong with your set.

when playing 1080p content (games or blu-rays) it uses the full screen but if i play a standard ps3 game (720) it puts a border around the screen.. anyway to fix this?

also after calibratiing using both settings found on this forum. I find my blacks may be to black. like while watching Sons of Anarchy or The Nightmare Before Christmas, lots of things fade into eachother because its just 2 much black

First after using the calibration settings, it's not uncommon to still need to tweak the brightness for your viewing conditions. In extreme cases you might also need to change the backlight setting (for a VERY bright room).

As for the border, when watching TV just change your Aspect Ratio to 16:9 or Set By Program. Just Scan will do just that - only display pixel for pixel the content. In the case of 720p you're seeing the true size of the picture without it being stretched to fill the screen. This is why 1080p is sharper. There is literally more information. Whether you'll notice of course is not as simple as that.

If you're using a PS3 or Blu-Ray player connected via HDMI Just Scan shouldn't be a problem though (even with 720p games). Make sure you're using the latest firmware for both the TV and the PS3.

A little bleeding might be noticable in a dark black room, but normally it's not enough to spoil the experience. If you watch in a normally lit room (even a little dim) you shouldn't notice it at all.

If this is for a theater room, then a full LED grid array set instead of an edge lit set would probably be a better option, but those are significantly more expensive. I would agree with the previous poster - In terms of bang for your buck this set is incredible.

Hi All,

First time poster. I just got this tv, and I already noticed an issue I'm hoping you can help me diagnose.

I'm using my ps3 to view Blu rays, and I popped in Wall-E and also tried out UP. What I'm seeing is that when the camera pans the movement is very jerky, almost like the frame rate is dropping or something. I'm using older HDMI cables that I already had for my older HDTV that this is replacing.

I'm wondering if maybe it's the HDMI cable? Do I need to have one of the newer high speed versions? Or is this just a setting on the tv that I'm missing? It seems to be doing this with dejudder on or off.

I'm hoping that I don't have a defect in the tv, which I suppose wouldn't be the end of the world as I have a warranty. Any help you can give would be appreciated.

Go into settings and turn true motion off, it adds extra frames to give it a "soap opera" effect. But instead makes everything jitter and seem very odd.
You will need to upgrade your hdmi cords when you want to start watchinf 3d blu fyi

Actually it's doing it with the tru motion off. I actually turned it off because I hate that "soap opera" effect. Camera pans are appearing very jerky. I'm assuming that isn't normal for the tv. If it is, I will have to consider returning it because it's really disappointing.

Turn AV mode to cinema.

Hi all -

I've had this TV since September and all of the apps on the TV can show videos in HD except for Amazon. Vudu shows all 3 bars on connection speed and Netflix looks good in HD also. Amazon only shows connection on 2 of the 4 bars. I went from wireless to wired from the router to wired directly to the modem and no change in speed/quality. Anyone else have this problem or know what to do?

Thanks

I am on the same boat you are. I have tried cable upgrade, game mode, cinema mode, etc. But nothing has resolved this issue. In my case just people moving their head shows blur. I am waiting until the 15th for a miracle, otherwise, mine is going back.

Also, see the following links for other folks with similar issue who have already returned theirs:

raptor have you updated the firmware a few times? I got my tv on tuesday and there was a total of 3 firmware updates for it and it fixed a lot of problems. also try the cnet calibration for the tv. helps a lot of other things including perfecting the image

Regarding the border issue. HD programs fill the screen but non-HD has the borders. I've tried setting the aspect ratio to 16:9 and also tried "set by program" but I still get the gray borders on each side. This just happended after DTV upgraded the menu to the new format. The DTV box indicates 420p when getting the borders and when getting HD channels is indicates 720. Any suggestions?

I did just did the firmware update, (now at 04.02.28), but I still have the same bad light bleed at top left (that is we're mine is worst) and also lower right. The bottom left seems ok, and the top right shows some but not real bad. I will try the screw losen / tighten trick next... Someone have a direct link to that trick so I can follow the steps? Thanks,

Regarding border issue from #6563
Try zoom, you can adjust exactly how much you want to see. Also, since it happened after DTV adjusted menu as you said, I would hazard wild guess and totally blame DTV for messing something up, that was working correctly before and complain to them. Also it could be just simple adjustment to how DTV box sends the signal to TV. Sorry I don't have DTV, to give you any detailed instructions but I'm sure DTV box have different options to how to format video before it's send to TV.

Yeah, I found the Amazon app to be real slow and lacking. I'm also on a wired cconnection.

Is there any settings to increase the 3D pollution effects? Also, for any htpc users what software are you using to view 3d bluray movies?

Right you are. DTV changed the settings with their update. I talked with their tech services and they set everything back.

It's not the HDMI cables since I am getting the flickers, etc on the No signal screen and the screensaver. LG is sending out a tech tomorrow so I guess I'll find out what the deal is.
for those that use the the THX settings but mildy tweaked. what did you tune yours to? I feel that the blacks are a bit do dark and it seems a bit to warm in color.

also now that I can get into the ezmenu anything else i should turn on?
