Official LG 47LW5600/55LW5600 "Passive 3D" Owners Thread - Page 221

Hey Everyone,

I just got my 65LW6500 delivered yesterday afternoon from Amazon. I only played around with it a little bit last night. So far, i LOVE the pq out of the box.

Quick question : I have a Verizon FiOS Motorola HD cable box hooked up to the Tv. When I click the "Info" button on the Tv remote, in the upper right-hand corner, it displays "16:9 720p" I thought it would be in 1080p, or is that just for Blu Rays?

My question is are all HD channel broadcasts in 720p? Or, is there a setting on the Tv or cable box that I am missing?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi, the 16:9 is the aspect ratio I believe, the 720p is what the broadcast stations are putting out their stuff in.

No, this will not always be the same, you will see it change when you watch different channels. The cable box may display the same settings if it has the capabilities to do so.

I have Cablevision and I saw the same thing as you do, mine also displays if it is HDTV. I have the 55/6500 and think its great right out of the box. I haven't messed with any settings at all.

Oh ok, so it's the broadcast, not my settings?

Thanks for your quick response!

Hi, Your welcome.

No, not your settings at all. How do you like it overall ?

Do you have it hooked up to a A/V receiver ?

it shoulnt be grayed out ,i know the 2d-3d is greyed out when watching actual 3d,try putting on a real 3d ,channel or bluray, hit the menu button to the right of the controole it will bring up 3d,at top, then settings in the middle ,and i believe audio at the bottom, hit the 3d and go to the last option the depth control and change it to anything on the + side, you will see a great difference,+10 may be to strong for your taste but i love it,play around with it and tell me what you think

I'm using an htpc and do not have a dedicated bluray player nor cable. I wonder if that is the reason why it is greyed out. I'l try renaming the input from pc to something else. Wil also try on of the 3d apps and see what happens.

Ok...finally finished reading this thread (definitely not light reading) and have decided to replace my Sony 52XBR4 with the 55LW5600. Looking forward to getting it set up and joining in the discussion.

You have to drill down to the "Drivers and Software" tab, then click on "Software File(Version 4.02.62)". This brings up another screen with a description of the changes, in this case: "To enhance skype performance".

I emailed support and got this list:

4.02.62 was to install Skype
4.02.22 Netflix upgrade, add NHL, Cinema Now Upgrade add Dolby
4.01.30 Improve connectivety
4.00.14 Add Hulu & mog improve energy saving mode performance
3.11.04 To support 3D with CP.Apps/media link & 3D cell phone
3.10.08 to fix Netflix access issue
3.01.20 to activate web browser, media link and add Cps

You can do a manual upgrade: download the firmware file from the support site and unzip it to a USB stick, then follow the instructions in the Upgrade Guide PDF which is also at the support site.

Just got this tv today and I'm really happy with it; however I'm having one problem. For sports I love trumotion. For movies I hate it. I configured expert1 as described earlier in this forum but it seems trumotion is a global setting. Turning it off under expert1 turns it off everywhere. Is there any way to switch between viewing modes, such as standard and expert1, and have the tv remember I want trumotion on high for standard and off for expert1?

I Have true motion turned off. Watch most sports including some hockey and I really do not see any bluring or whatever one is supposed to get or see via LCD's. Things look pretty normal to me.

Curious if anyone can explain to me. I have an over 8 year old XP desktop connected via ethernet to my router. I just noticed a colored icon in the tray at the bottom and clicked on it to see what that was. It indicated that Windows Media Player had detected my LG5600 which is getting a wireless signal from router. Box came up asking if I would like to be able stream various media to the TV. I clicked Ok.. not really knowing what if anything it would or could do or what to do about it.
Can anyone tell me what I might be able to do if anything and or how I would stream media to my the LG. How did windows media detect the TV?

Hi, it probably detected it by being on the same router. You do have the LG on-line, right ?

I would think WMP will do whatever you can do on the PC on the LG.

I wonder if anybody else also as this problem - I am watching TV on the coax input of the TV. I have a DVD player connected on HDMI2 which is on standby. Every 10-20 seconds I get a pop-up that says - "HDMI2 New external i put connected. Do you want to use this?" I tried clicking no, hit exit on remote. It disappears and then comes back again. It goes off by itself, but comes back.

Only clue I have is when I go to the input selection screen/menu, the second input listed keeps switching between USB1(wifi) and HDMI2. I suspect that when HDMI get promoted to #2 input the TV thinks something new is connected. I have had the TV for 3 weeks and this is the first time I am seeing this.

Thanks for the input _benjammin, I'm going to try and connect the wireless headphone's transmitter base to the LG's mini stereo headphone jack/out via a Stereo Headphone 3.5mm Male Jack To (2) RCA Stereo Audio Cable - I hadn't thought of that option

Stupid question alert!!!

I ordered the 55" and it's going to be delivered Tuesday. I ordered a Panasonic Blue Ray/3D player as well. I know there's a difference between the active and passive technologies of the 3D flat screens, but am I correct in assuming that a Panasonic will work fine with the LG?

Yes and good choice on both components. Cheers!

Thanks, James.

I'm going to probably have a lot more questions this upcoming week with the new LG, the new DVD player, and the new receiver. I'm hoping not to be crazy. I've been adding a lot of calibration suggestions, tips, etc. to my computers "notes" system, so that will definitely help. My biggest concern is the receiver and hoping all functions well there as the manufactured doesn't have the greatest reputation regarding customer service.

Crossing my fingers.

Netflix is working great but it was obvious Tru-Motion was on during playback and couldn't figure out how to shut it off. By fluke I just found out that pushing the Q.Menu button on the remote while in Netflix brings up the TV menu to make video adjustments. Yayyyy! Just posting this in case anyone else was trying to figure this out. Cheers!

No worries. Make sure you have the correct Hi-speed HDMI cables and you should be good to go. I just bought a new receiver as well, Pioneer 1126 (1121 in the U.S.) and it's working like a charm so far. Love it and seriously impressed with the audio quality and functionality. Which receiver did you get?

Your Pioneer was one I was considering, as well as one of their Elites, but I ended up ordering the Onkyo TX-NR809. As for the HDMI cables, I went with some made by Blue Jeans cable as they've always done right with me in the past, especially for the money. They say they're 1.4 compliant, so hopefully they'll do the trick.

By the way, congratulations on the Pioneer. I'm very happy it is doing a great job so far.

for those still having problems with edge bleeding, more then normal. Try switching to THX cinema or THX Brightroom, then hitting 8741, turn the backlight to 25-27 on both and set dimming to medium, you may want to set brightness to around 51-55 for the Brightroom setting after doing this (personal preference)
with these settings I was able to get the edge bleed to such a low amount it no longer bugs me (yay) still has it in 3d but honestly you get so distracted by what your watching in 3d you wont notice anything going on the sides lol

I'm using 5 year old cables to all 4 inputs and everything looks great. The specs have changed but it looks like they're still building the cables the same way.

Hello all. New user, first post.

Took delivery on my 55/5600 from Paul's TV via Amazon yesterday. Being a total A/V n00b (this is my first HD set and replaced a 10-yo 27" Trinitron) I don't imagine anyone will find it surprising when I say I have found this set's combination of PQ and features to be very, very impressive.

Working my way through this thread (up to page 130 or so now) has proven to be extremely educational and instructive.

I'd like to thank AVSForum and all who post here for this invaluable resource. I look forward to posting when I've learned a bit more and feel capable of contributing.

Cheers!

I have the same issue. Alternatively, I was wondering if there was some way to program TruMotion into the Quick menu or right on the remote for easy access without having to go through the Home menu.

Also, could someone link me to the instructions to:

1) Enable thx modes
2) enable 5.1 audio out over the optical audio out

I know it's somewhere in this thread but I'm using my iPhone and it's hard for me to search. Thanks!

Another advantage of passive 3d technology: by swapping the lenses between glasses you can apparently play split screen coop games in full screen mode with each player seeing a separate full screen image. Anyone tried this yet?
