Official LG 47LW5600/55LW5600 "Passive 3D" Owners Thread - Page 223

Just want to say, after finally having some time to watch some blu rays on my 47lw5600 if you have been reading this forum and are on the fence about purchasing, take the plunge you will not be disapointed... Still blown away

First off, thanks so much to all of you who have shared your information with the rest of us. You don't know how lost I'd be without it. I've been reading and reading your posts and cutting/pasting like crazy on a note pad application for my computer. So, when I received my 55LW5600 today, I wasn't clueless.

My biggest snag today was trying to set up the WiFi. Our WiFi password is a series of numbers and it took a while for me to figure out how to enter numbers, but once that was out of the way, I was able to update the firmware, then it was off to the races on callibrating the TV and the like.

Out of the box, I wasn't all that pleased with the picture, but I went with mrjktcvs's settings and, oh man, did that improve things. I might fiddle around a bit in the future, but, for right now, I'm really happy.

Tried the simulated 3D, but that is not something I'll be using that much. Can't wait to get my 3D DVD player later in the week.

If I had one complaint, it's the sound quality. Not bad, but not great. I don't want to turn on my whole audio system every time I play the TV. I reserve that for DVD's and the like, so I'm going to order the Sony 150 bar system and, hopefully, that'll do the trick.

Again, thanks all of you. Now, when my new receiver gets here, I do expect some headaches, but, as long as the thing works all right, I'll be fine.

by chance are you just using a basic WEP for your password for your wifi? if so you should really switch over to wpa2-psk or basically anything besides WEP. Only takes about 4 seconds to flush your router with packets to get your password, its just not safe anymore to use

OK I finally got a remote that allows me to turn on the service menu, but now I don't know what option to change to allow for DTS passthrough. Can anyone tell me the exact menu and option to change?

I'd REALLY like to get this working since a lot of Blu-Ray discs use DTS-HD which can be downconverted to DTS 5.1 (which my reciever supports), but as it stands now I only end up with PCM. If I can get the DTS passthrough to work, I can turn on DTS 5.1 on my PS3 again which is how I had it working on my old TV. Any help would be most appreciated!

First of thanks to all who have posted such great info on this tv. Love the ez menu options have added alot of value to my set. Overall picture is great my only issue is there is no soap opera effect on this tv whatsoever. The tru motion set to hi on user does nothing, not sure if its my set or if that's just the way it is. Would be nice if i could upgrade the processor like i do on my pc lol. Also was wondering if there is a way to get mkv files to play from usb always get incompatible audio. thanks any feed back would be greatly appreciated.

Has anyone here tried watching ESPN 3D (Comcast, not sure if it's relevant) using the standard broadcast and turning on top/bottom 3D?

I'm trying to watch ESPN 3D via a Ceton infiniTV. The ESPN 3D broadcast comes in split top/bottom which is fine, however when I turn on 3D and set it to top/bottom, the picture isn't aligned properly, almost as if the broadcast is not coming in perfectly split in the middle. That is, when 3D is on, the left (or right) image is slightly higher than the other, high enough that the pictures are clearly not aligned properly and causes some serious eyestrain as your eyes adjust to align the pictures themselves. I haven't found any way to adjust the TV's or channel's alignment.

SBS stuff works perfect, just top/bottom (particularly ESPN 3D) is off.

Anyone had a similar experience or have a solution?

tryed the two players on same tv full screen thing using the switched lenses in 3D mode playing Halo. worked good with just a little bit of ghosting but really feelt like you were playing someone else online and not beside you. No more screen peeking. lots of fun.

I currently Purchased this set through best buy and i am picking it up tomorrow. Can anyone please redirect me to a good calibration setting?

Really? I'm surprised you say that. I put Tru Motion on high effect to annoy my girlfriend (she says it freaks her out) and on most shows it does give that soap opera effect. I have found that on some older shows it does noting but on newer shows it is very prominent. What is your source?

I keep forgetting to try this, how is the achieved besides modifying the lenses of the glasses?

Up until a couple weeks ago I had ESPN3D on Comcast and never experienced this issue

After having read a hefty amount of this thread, I ended up using the following set of calibration adjustments. Last night, I was in awe of how great the picture looked when being fed good material. I use it in a relatively dark room, so that might be a factor, but, wow, it was great. YMMV. That's not to say that others might not do an even better job of it, but I'm very satisfied.

Remember, you have to redo it for each source you feed into the TV.

Here's the one I borrowed:

From what I understand from the videos (haven't tried it yet though)
Once you modify the glasses, set up split screen multiplayer whichever way the game has it (top/bottom or left/right) and them hit the 3D button and set it to the same (top/bottom or left/right).

If I knew this previously, I would get one of these for the mancave instead of the panny st30. Wonder if I can get the wifey to switch?
First off thanks for this thread. I setup the THX color settings from earlier in the thread and find they are spot-on.

All I can say is wow, this TV has turned my opinion of 3D TV at home around.
I didn't buy this TV because of the 3D capabilities. I don't own, or plan on owning any 3D movies, or devices. However now everything I own is a 3D device! The 2D to 3D converter works better then I ever expected.

I just finished the first Lord of the Rings movie in 3D. The huge panning shots are simply stunning in 3D. The close up shots have so much detail, you can see the 3D texture in the trees, rocks, and monsters.

I have found the Smart TV interface a bit slow to load for my taste, and so I still use my Roku for most of that stuff.

Question: Does anyone know if the Skype App will work with a Logitech USb webcam or does it only work with the webcam that LG specifies?

So if you want to play web based video, you will likely have to hook a computer up to it. Use the tv as a monitor.

That is why I bought the 5300 and hooked an old PC to it. Smart TVs will never keep up with the changing landscape of changing video sites, changing software requirements etc... I hope my TV lasts 5-10 years. I am sure that Web based video and audio content providers will not be using the same technology in 10 years. The TV vendors can't afford to keep updating software on the TVs for years to come (not to mention that new technologies can exceed the hardware capabilities of old TVs).

Edit: Also when I turn my receiver off using the reciever remote, my TV doesn't turn off, it just reverts to internal speakers, and I prefer it this way.

Incredibly frustrating. CEC (aka SIMPLINK) is a nightmare. I tried programming my brother in laws setup over the holidays. I wasted a couple of hours trying to understand what was happening due to CEC. Get a good programmable remote with macros (I use URC-R50) and turn CEC off. Then the TV, Home Theater, Blue Ray and other components will do exactly what your remote tells them to do.

Currently reading the thread. Just purchased my TV, although the wait is freaking killing me.

Ordered it from Amazon on Thursday morning (55LW5600), and they didn't ship it until yesterday. CEVA has it /in Austin/ this morning...but they can't manage to deliver it until next Monday.

Man, I should have just bought from Fry's and paid the extra $100 or so in sales tax. -.-

Yea this is a huuuuuge thread...I tried wading through it but, couldn't. I bought this tv during Black Friday and have been tinkering with the settings ever since. I know next to nothing about what the settings mean, but I've noticed that my games (PS3 - MW3, Heavy Rain, etc) look grey and washed out if I don't have Dynamic Contrast set to at least Medium, and Gamma at 2.4.

I used the settings that mrjktcvs posted as a baseline, and noticed that every single setting that I've found online have Dynamic Contrast off - what am I missing? Is there a "do this, dummy" solution which I'm missing? Here's my settings so far, medium lit room, natural light:

Energy Saving: Off
Backlight: 50
Contrast: 90
Brightness: 50
H Sharpness: 70
V Sharpness: 70
Color: 60
Tint: 0
TruMotion: High
LED Local Dimming: High

--Expert control menu
Dynamic contrast: Medium
Noise reduction: Low
MPEG Noise Reduction: Off
Super Resolution: On
Black level: Low
Real Cinema: On
Color Gamut: BT709
Edge Enhancer: High

Color Temperature: Medium
Gamma: 2.4

All colors/brightness at 0, because I have no idea how to go about changing it.

Look up higher on the screen, there are some settings there. I"ll quote 'em here though:

Thanks for the settings guys. Really hope CEVA gets this to my house before the long weekend.
Good luck, it's taking them 5 days to get to my house. I'm really frustrated about it, too.
Yeah I know the feeling. Mine shipped yesterday and arrived in my city this morning but the delivery date isnt till the. 17th. I'm gonna be really mad if it sits there that long.
Can you call them and ask if you can pick it up? Assuming of course you have a truck or at least access to a truck

I'm not sure I've never dealt with them before. Someone in another thread said to call and they would schedule a delivery time so I'm going to call tomorrow.

Hey guys, was wondering if this TV has depth adjustment for Only the 2D to 3D or for Actaul 3D as well. I didn't think that the 3D srouces could be adjusted. Just figured that it was only with Upconverted 2D sources...

Only adjustable for 2D->3D mode. Not native 3D.
