Official LG 47LW5600/55LW5600 "Passive 3D" Owners Thread - Page 263

Well, I picked up the 55" version of this television because the price was a steal as they were clearing it out for the 2012 models. Have one small issue with the display that is currently being rectified under warranty by a service technician. Otherwise, I'm loving it. I was using my old 37" Olevia before this so it's a hell of an upgrade.

There is some prominent backlight bleeding during credit sequences but for the rest of the time, I'm actually quite pleased with the colour uniformity and blacks. Not experiencing any of the audio sync or gaming lag issues that some others have posted as having.

I would like to thank everyone in this thread who already did the tough lifting as it made my job easier. I read through it to help understand all the pluses and minuses of the set to determine to buy it and how to set it up. The calibration from the ISF professional are basically perfect. (Tried the CNET ones but they come off as WAY too warm for my tastes.)

Great ! Glad you made the right desicion to get this fantastic unit.
I went from a 32' Sylvania CRT to the 55" LW6500, quite the difference.
Unlike a lot of other owners I did not make any significant changes out of the box as everything looked just right to me.

Hope you enjoy it for many years to come.

is it possible to get regular Hulu on this TV? I know we can do Hulu Plus, but I am not looking to pay. I go to hulu.com on the browser and it says I need to install flashplayer.
Do the LW5000 series have the constant defect that the LV4400 series has with bad capacitors and TVs not turning on? Tons of owners are having their TVs not turn on within 4 months and id rather avoid this headache if possible.

Never heard of such a problem. I maybe wrong though.

If I'm proven wrong, it will be time to obtain an extended warranty !

Really don't think there is a way to install flash at this point.

I was going to get the 55LV4400 (non 3D set) today until I looked up problems for it and it has a gaurenteed defect that you will get in the first 4 months. Bad capacitors causing the TV not to turn on. LG is back ordered on the parts too so lots of unhappy customers going weeks without TV.

Im all for a deal but I want to avoid a headache if possible.

I dont care for 3D but the 55LW5000 on sale right now at future shop is $999, the cheapest 55" set after the $800 non 3D set.

I have the 47 lw5600. When I press the home button and go into setup it says trumotion is off and its greyed out so I can't change it. But when I go on Netflix is says tru motion is high. How do I turn it on when not on Netflix?

I haven't heard of that issue with the 5000 series. I had a 5 year old Samsung that was known for that same issue (although I never had that problem, but a different one) and there was a class action settlement on it.

I don't usually buy extended warranties, but Costco has 3 year extended Squaretrade warranties for $59.99 ($99.99 if the TV is over $1000), so I bought one for my LG and effectively have a 5 year warranty (one year manufacturer, one year Costco, three year Squaretrade).

No idea why it would be grayed out.

Actually, if you research this thread the consensus is to turn it off .

I tried it myself and was surprised at the difference. When watching things such as Nascar, it looked like the cars stuttered when shown in a High speed turn.

This all disappeared after turning TruMotion off. Now it is very smooth action thru the race.

Watching the 6hrs. of Watkins Glen now (Speed Channel)and it is perfect, in-car cameras and thru out the course is just as if you were there.

The only thing missing is true 3-D.

I figured it out for some reason if you out picture mode to game it won't let you turn it on or off so now I have it on standard

Awhile back there was some discussion of which movie might be the best to demo the 3D effect on this TV. I think Tangled was universally agreed to be one of the best, however, I just watched Hugo in 3D on my 55LW5600 and it blew me away. It is by far the best 3D movie I've ever seen and will demo this TV spectacularly.
I'm not a big fan of 3D in general but I will agree with you that Hugo probably is probably the best example of a feature film that seems to use 3D in a perfect way that actually enhances the movie and neither is too forgettable and unnecessary nor overly gimmicky. I think if I were specifically wanting to demonstrate the 3D effect to others I would still stick with one of those IMAX movies, though.

Sorry if this was already covered, I must have missed it if it was. Having a problem with no signal on the OTA tuner.

Strange problem... We have a DirecTV box setup, and also have the over-the-air tuner box on it, and we use this most of the time because it is convenient to have the OTA channels in the program guide. However, I suspect the quality of the internal TV ATSC tuner is probably better (signal strengths were also higher when initially installed) so although we don't use the TV very often for ATSC OTA channels, we do occasionally when we are watching something live that we want the best quality for.

I don't know when it happened, because it has been a while since we used it, but today I switched over and it said there was no signal on all the TV channels. I tried to do a scan and it found nothing. I double checked all connections and wires and even swapped the TV cable between the DTV OTA box and the LG TV and it made no difference.

Anyone aware of anything in a recent software update that may have caused this glitch, or how to troubleshoot? Or should I just call LG for a warranty service call? (and any tips on how that works? smile.gif

Thanks!

-Steve

[UPDATE: I unplugged the TV and let it set, the when I reconnected the power the TV option in the input selection screen is now greyed out.]

I have a question about the TV volume. Possibly it might have been covered here but I couldn't find it with a search.

I'm experiencing very low volume when using Netflix or any of the apps on the TV. With my sat box connected via HDMI to the LG with the volume on 17 or 18, it blows your ears off. When using Netflix I can turn the volume up to 100% and it's barely loud enough. I'm using the TV speakers for both the sat box and Netflix.

Any ideas? Am I missing something in the settings? I don't remember this being an issue when I first got the TV back in Feb. so I'm wondering if it's due to one of the software updates?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Look under the Audio tab in the setup menu for "Auto Volume". Turn that on and your apps volume should be much louder. I experience the same thing, low volume from Netfix without Auto Volume enabled. smile.gif

This weekend a couple of us were playing the Wii and the tv would flicker and scramble the colors up for about 3 seconds. I thought it was the Wii since this TV is pretty much new and we've had problems with the Wii before. But this morning just watching cable, it did it again!

Has anyone experienced this or know what's going on? It's not constant (yet) but i haven't even owned this tv for a year yet and it's doing this

Thanks I tried this tonight and it made quite a difference. Now I can at least watch Netflix without having to crank the TV volume all the way up. There's sometimes when I just want to watch something without having to crank up my surround system.

Again thanks

I was looking to upgrade my Olevia 47" (will move it downstairs to replace my Olevia 37"). I have a very bright family room upstairs (skylight, lots of windows) and the Olevia was very glossy and reflective. Very hard to watch during the day. In reading all the HDTV reviews looking for a good screen for a bright room I stumbled on the 2011 LG 55LW5600 recently, but then noticed the 2012 model went from a matte screen to a glossy screen. So I was very interested in picking up the 2011 model before they disappeared. I was not a big 3D fan, but the more I read about the LG passive system, the more I liked the idea for the novelty and fun, especially since there did not seem to be a big price difference between this LG and a quality 2D screen.

As of July I could only find two online vendors that still had new copies of the LG 55LW5600 in stock. One out of New York which I can't find anymore and MODIA out of TX that was selling through Amazon and seemed to be a reputable dealer. I went with the Amazon seller at a price of $1,595 (including free shipping). They stated they only had 5 left and as soon as I ordered it the price went up to $1688.

From looking at the price history here http://www.nextag.com/LG-LW5600-55-Class-836757598/price-history-html I didn't get the absolute best price, but I did get near the bottom of the curve, and was just glad to get one. It should arrive this week via Pilot Freight. For those still in the hunt for this model there are a number of used and open box models being sold on Amazon for around $1,200-$1,300.

I also ordered 3D versions of Hugo, John Carter, Rio, Tangled, and IMAX Under the Sea which were listed in the top 10 3D Blu-Ray DVDs so I could have fun showing off my new 3D HDTV to friends and family.

I have a dozen 3D movies and in my opinion, the best looking one is Open Season. The movie itself is pretty good too.

Ok, to my tuner problem above -- they replaced the main logic board and the tuner now works.

HOWEVER -- On my 47LW5600 I went back in to set things up, and downloaded a few of the 3D APPS -- Yabazam, 3D World, and 3D Race... NONE of the view in 3D, and when they are playing the 3d button on the remote does not work.

I am sure that I had 3D World downloaded when we first bought the TV and it had worked, so is this a flaw in the new logic board, setup, or what?

Thanks!

[UPDATE: Not sure what was up, but I downloaded the firmware to a USB stick and forced it to update (it was the same version as already installed) and now it is working fine. Strange... The tech did not set the model number or serial number, is that important for anything?]

I cannot decide between this (55lw5600) and this years model of 55ls5600. The lw is open box for $1000 and the ls is brand new for $1000. The latter isnt a smart tv, nor is it 3d but it is brand new in box. They both also have a one year warranty. Anybody have an opinion on which I should go for?

As soon as I try to go to the next page of files when browsing my PC files via my TV, the software crashes and loses the connection. Any alternatives out there?

I've said it before, seriously, get yourself Mezzmo and use it as your DLNA server. I've tried a ton of different ones (Plex, Nero, PS3Server, Media Center, Media Portal, Medio, JRiver, MediaMall, PlayOn, etc.).
If you want to stream video from your PC (or network attached storage) to your TV, this works the best by far.

**WARNING**

Not sure if this has always been the case or is a bug in a recent software update. I did a quick search of this thread and did not find any posts relating to this...

If you are in the SETUP menu in the OPTIONS tab - DO NOT select Mode Setting. It will screw up your picture settings even if you select Close without changing anything.

It will default to STANDARD picture mode and AUTO energy saving mode. What's worse it is wipes out any custom settings that were setup in the Standard picture mode - aka Standard (user) mad.gif.

If you find yourself in this menu - hit EXIT on the remote to avoid the problem.

My LG 55LW5600 arrived this week. I set it up and had two issues. I kept getting these pop-up LG ads while watching satellite TV. Found the solution on the LG forum. Somehow I had put it in Store Demo mode rather than Home mode. To fix go to Options Menu-->Initial Settings-->Home Use. Warning, initial settings puts all your settings back to factory settings, so I had to redo all my settings. The second problem was my PS3 would not recognized 3D DVDs. I found the fix in a PS3 forum: On the PS3 go to Settings-->Display Settings-->Video Output Settings-->HDMI-->Automatic. I think the PS3 was not recognizing it was connected to a 3D TV until I selected this setting.

My brother-in-law who was visiting claimed 3D TV was just a passing fad. I sat him down for a little tennis on ESPN3D and then the IMAX Under the Sea 3D. Now he (and his wife) are believers in 3DTV! He said it was better than any 3D movie he'd seen in the theaters. I agree.

I've seen various posts about firmware updates. Is there any reason not to update to the latest version? (I think I saw that Amazon Prime disappeared during one update). I don't know what firmware version I have yet, but it looks like I do have Amazon App and don't want to lose that if I update.
I got into some setup menu and it automatically updated the firmware once I connected the wifi. So now I have ver 04.02.62 which appears to be the latest. An I still have the Amazon movie app, so all is good.smile.gif

Hi guys,

This is my first post and english is not my native language but i want to contribute to the community with a so long desired solution for LG 42/47/55LM6200.

this journey begins with a not so good idea from LG....yes that one "YOU CANNOT PASS DTS" through your TV if you are on america due to licenses issues/fees/etc, etc, etc. so....

Solution Steps

1.- Upgrade your tv to the latest firmware (current 03.21.40 http://www.lg.com/us/support-product/lg-42LM6200 )

2.- Get/obtain a RCA control like this http://www.amazon.com/RCA-RCRN08GR-Device-Universal-Backlit/dp/B003EYV21K.

I believe that second step is the most important because particularly speaking we are not going to use RCA remote control for bringing on the EZ menu only. We're looking for an ADVANCED EZ menu.

3.- When you already have your new remote control use code 10856 for program and notice the most buttons won't be working (so please get your original lg remote control cause will become handy) push down button 2 to bring on the EZ MENU and then push down button 3 to bring the Advanced EZ menu (In-start will be there too) LOOK for NSU Mode OPTION and change it from user to engineer.

Explanation: why do we need NSU Engineering Mode? well quite simple...when your TV is in NSU E-Mode will be connecting to LG alternate servers to download new unreleased firmwares.

4.- Now go to your typical menu and look for new updates. Your tv will show that a new fimware has been found and available for download (firmware 04.82.02) please update your TV as fast as you can...... that's the key.

5.- After upgrade process has finished take back your RCA remote control and go to normal EZ Menu. This time options will be available for modifying and particularly speaking you cannot change country group but you DON'T NEED IT. Just look for AC3 EDID option and change it from PCM to AC3.

6.- Wait almost there….. well actually we are there we have DTS passthrough...but wait THERE'S A BUG. keep reading.

Take this in mind…. your DVR or HT will displayed effectively DTS sound but you won't hear a sound. For some reason (probably a beta firmware) you need to go to menu on your TV and look for sound options and change your optical sound output from automatic to PCM and then go back again to automatic after doing that full DTS 5.1/7.1 track will be detected.
