Official LG 47LW5600/55LW5600 "Passive 3D" Owners Thread - Page 264

Hey guys,

Bought my 55LW5600 in December after purchasing the Toshiba model and not being happy with it. Several people here answered questions for me and helped make my decision to switch, I haven't regretted it a bit. While some things were comparable or even a little better on the Toshiba, overall the LG wins hands down for me, so glad I switched. I plugged in some settings initially, been happy with the TV, but lately I had the urge to play more, probably because I just redid my setup at home and finally mounted the TV etc. Caught up on 100+ pages of conversation that I missed too!

So I'm up to speed now on latest firmware, service menu, etc. and ready to tweak my settings. I actually saved all of the posts I saw and printed them out, I saw a lot of similarities but also some weird differences, so decided to plug them into a spreadsheet to see what looked like a good starting place as well as if there was a way to merge or tighten up on some of the agreed upon ranges. I haven't tried any of these yet, but I thought I would share my spreadsheet in the event anyone else would like to try different settings and doesn't want to search through 8000 posts to find them.

I'll report back once I have time to try some of these for a day or two each and let you know what I like the best.

If anyone has any information on some of the notes I have in the "Merged" column at the end I would appreciate it. I have no idea what some of these settings do or why one should be better than the other. Hopefully the manual will help with that, but if the info is not there feel free to elaborate.

Thanks to everyone for all of the posts in this thread, even if some of the questions are asked over, and over, and over... There is a TON of information in here, I remember when I was deciding between Toshiba and LG the Toshiba forum had 4 pages of posts, this one was already on 50+ and steadily growing. That alone helped make my decision easy.

Get ready to enjoy the Olympics in 3D, though the 3D events will be shown the next day versus live; but still should be awesome.

Cablevision is doing the same thing, only day after not live. cool.gif

This is the only reason I haven't cut the cable. Will schedule it cut the day after the games are over. wink.gif

Enjoy the games in 3D !

this journey begins with a not so good idea from LG....yes that one "YOU CANNOT PASS DTS" through your TV if you are on america due to licenses issues/fees/etc, etc, etc. so....
Solution Steps
1.- Upgrade your tv to the latest firmware (current 03.21.40 http://www.lg.com/us/support-product/lg-42LM6200 )
2.- Get/obtain a RCA control like this http://www.amazon.com/RCA-RCRN08GR-Device-Universal-Backlit/dp/B003EYV21K.
I believe that second step is the most important because particularly speaking we are not going to use RCA remote control for bringing on the EZ menu only. We're looking for an ADVANCED EZ menu.
3.- When you already have your new remote control use code 10856 for program and notice the most buttons won't be working (so please get your original lg remote control cause will become handy) push down button 2 to bring on the EZ MENU and then push down button 3 to bring the Advanced EZ menu (In-start will be there too) LOOK for NSU Mode OPTION and change it from user to engineer.
Explanation: why do we need NSU Engineering Mode? well quite simple...when your TV is in NSU E-Mode will be connecting to LG alternate servers to download new unreleased firmwares.
4.- Now go to your typical menu and look for new updates. Your tv will show that a new fimware has been found and available for download (firmware 04.82.02) please update your TV as fast as you can...... that's the key.
5.- After upgrade process has finished take back your RCA remote control and go to normal EZ Menu. This time options will be available for modifying and particularly speaking you cannot change country group but you DON'T NEED IT. Just look for AC3 EDID option and change it from PCM to AC3.
6.- Wait almost there….. well actually we are there we have DTS passthrough...but wait THERE'S A BUG. keep reading.
Take this in mind…. your DVR or HT will displayed effectively DTS sound but you won't hear a sound. For some reason (probably a beta firmware) you need to go to menu on your TV and look for sound options and change your optical sound output from automatic to PCM and then go back again to automatic after doing that full DTS 5.1/7.1 track will be detected.

So has anyone with a xxLW5600 tried this method as of yet? If so do you have to get the rca remote to get to the advanced EZmenu or is there a way to use a logitech harmony?

Quick technical question: do the LW5600/LW6500 sets have dual core processors or single core processors? I know the LM6700/7600 sets have only single core processors, but I thought I read that the 2011 models had dual cores and the processors were downgraded for 2012 in the models below the LM8600. Is this true or just an Internet myth? Thanks for any info!

folks i have used the search function, and cant find this info, any help on this would be appreciated.
my 55LW5600 is hooked up via LAN with the router, i am trying to use the LG remote app on both my andriod (HTC Amaze 4G) and iphone, the app does not even find the TV on either of the phones (wifi to same router). after scanning the apps go back to "Rescan"
any clues?

I am struggling with my 55LW5600. We had a brief power 'brown-out' and since then, the TV will not power up. The TV was plugged into a decent surge protector along with several other components which all work fine since the power event. I have unplugged the TV for several minutes, several hours and even for a full week while on vacation. I have also tried plugging it into different outlets etc.

Is there something else i can try? Thanks....I am missing my TV!
I wanted to post how I fixed my power-up issue from my previous post.
I unplugged the TV for only 2-3 minutes. I plugged it back in and hit the power button...success!

It is a mystery to me why this did not work when I left it unplugged for a week, yet leaving it unplugged for 2-3 muinutes works.

Hopefully this helps others who may have a similar scare...

Hello everyone,

I've been following this thread closely since I bought my 5600 in November. Overall I am very happy with this set, aside from a couple of nagging issues. I could've swore I saw this addressed at some point but can't find it anywhere. My problem is with Audio lag while using certain services. For example...On my PS 3 VUDU, and on my XBOX 360 VUDU, and HBOGO have such bad audio lag that it's impossible to use these services. Oddly, Netflix on both devices works fine, as well as blurays, dvd's or video games all work fine with no audio lag. I have a high speed HDMI cable run from both devices directly to inputs HDMI 3 & 4 with an Optical cable hooked up to the TV's digital audio out which connects to my denon receiver. Is there an audio setting I can adjust in the service menu perhaps? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Anyone using a Netgear N600 Router with their 55LW5600? I have a USB drive plugged in to the Netgear Router but the LG TV does not find it. The router is connected wirelessly and the TV can access the Internet. But the USB drive in the Router does not show up under Inputs on the TV. Anyone have any suggestions?

Why not plug it straight into the USB port on the LG.
Thanks. I do that too. I want my Laptop to connect to the Router's USB port and my attached USB drive. Then I do not have to add some media software like Servio etc. to the Laptop to send music or video or photos to the TV. I should be able to send media from the laptop to the USB drive on the Router and store music etc. Then stream music and media from the USB drive attached to the Router to the TV via the TV. It just does not show up as an Input on the TV. My friend has a Belkin router and a Samsung TV that does exactly what I want.

Have you checked on the Netgear forums ?

Okay, something weird has happened.

Not long ago (maybe a month or so?) my TV got a firmware update. So it's reporting I am currently running 04.03.02.

Here's the really weird bit: the NHL streaming app has disappeared. If I do an "Initialization of Premium", it comes back when the TV reboots, but then disappears again. When I attempt to launch the (now-blank) space it was in, I get "The service is not available in the selected country. [USA]"

Put simply, WTF?

Can someone confirm that the current firmware version is in fact 04.03.02? (LG's website has 04.02.62, dated 7/3/2012, available for download.) And if so, can they confirm whether the NHL premium app is missing for them as well?

Thanks much!

-- Chris

EDIT: You've GOT to be kidding me. I rolled back the firmware as detailed in this post, which rolled me back to 4.02.28. Downloaded 04.02.62 from LG's website, copied to a USB stick as per their instructions, and started that update. The update appears to have frozen at 99% with a nice red "Do not unplug!" warning to scare the crap out of me. I am NOT happy with LG right now.

EDIT AGAIN: Finally, after about 15 minutes of 99%, unplugged the TV (since it was responding to no other commands.). Eventually, it booted, and would display HDMI1 (my TiVo), but would not respond to any remote commands or go to a menu. Unplugged again, waited until I could hear the "okay I'm REALLY shutting down now" relay click, and plugged it back in. Everything appears to be back to where it should be, menus, NHL, etc, running under 04.02.62. (Netflix even works.) It is not telling me an update is available when I check. I have done another "Intiialization of Premium" and everything still seems to be working. I'm starting to think 04.03.02 was a mistake of some kind on LG's part.

In response to the rahaziel method to get the AC3:

I just tried, and the NSU step is not really necessary, you just have to start the AC3 EDID, it will automatically stop the PCM, so, don't worry. The only thing I had to do again is to turn on the ARC mode, and my HT start to show as Dolby.

The NSU step is interesting and I did it for fun, i was able to download the new beta firmware, which is 04.03.03 but i couldn't see anything new.

The only thing I saw, as I reported before is a different youtube, but I'm not sure if this time it will be there forever.... The last time it was only till I turned off the tv, the next day it was back to the old and terrible youtube app.

I am new on the EZ ADJ menu and I have a 47LW5600.

I was trying to update the white balance setting; however, I was mistaken using the reset option instead and I did not have a chance to write down the old setting. Is it possible someone can post the white balance default setting within the white balance option from the EZ ADJ MENU?

I am very appreciated if someone can post the setting or take a quick picture of the setting.

NHL GameCenter is no longer available on LG equipment. mad.gif

No but thanks. I did call Netgear Tech support. The USB port on their router does not function like the USB porton a Belkin Router and a Samsung TV. So the LG TV cannot see the USB on the Router.

Well, that would explain why it's disappeared again. I'd *like* to think it's because the app always blew and the NHL didn't want to be associated with the crappy service, but I'm sure it's something a lot more bottom-line than that.

Just as well. I'd rather ask GameCenter support "why did you do this?" than try to deal with the incompetent morons at LG.

Thanks for solving the puzzle, at any rate. smile.gif

OK, gang, tell me if I'm missing something with this. I updated my firmware to version 04.03.03 tonight. In the past, when watching blu-rays with DTS 7.1 soundtracks, there would be no audio coming through the TV speakers. After the firmware update, lo and behold, sound is playing through the speakers fine. The display indicates that the audio is indeed the DTS 7.1 soundtrack. Does this mean the set now has DTS pass through or am I mixing something up? The blu-ray player is a PS3 and everything is hooked up via HDMI to a Yamaha RX-A1000 receiver.

Anyone have problems logging on to the Twitter app? It goes through the whole "Register with Auto Sign In?" thing, thinks a bit, and then does nothing. The same process with the Facebook app worked just fine, and I know for sure that I am giving Twitter the right password. Any ideas?

Up-dated to 04.03.03 today.

Did not notice anything different at all.

I also got the upgrade. LG site note says it's to enhance DLNA performance, but that's all it says.

I notice that with this firmware (04.03.03) that the tv respond so much better to the remote than my previous, its much less laggy and a smoother experiance. Also from (04.02.62) I noticed that in the service menu PCM EDID D/L is displayed on top of AC3 EDID D/L, and it wasnt there before. But when I start one it stops the other?? does this mean if i want to output DTS audio to my receiver I have to start the PCM and when i want to use AC3 i have to restart the AC3? isnt there a way to keep both on, just seems like a hassle switching back and forth. Either way im happy with this update, the menus respond so much quicker, as does browsing through hard drives (Though the file explorer still has that awful way of displaying folder). I hate that you have to wait for the whole thing to scroll, isnt there a way to have just a list. Im using the lg bluray player to browse my hard drives (has dts & ac3 support) and the file browser is a little more tolerable.

I have the same app but it will only if the TV is connected via the wifi dongle. It will not work if the tv is connected to the router by cable even if the android device is connected wirelessly to the same router. Both the TV and phone/tablet have to be connected using WiFi.

Hello all. I have really learned a lot from this forum. Owner of 55LW5600 since Jan, and my family loves it.

There is one thing I'd like to find a solution to, tho. My setup:

Sat; ATT Uverse (component to TV, HDMI to HTR)
TV: 55LW5600
HTR: Samsung HDW5000

I'm looking for a method to split the ATT Uverse signal between my TV and HTR using an HDMI splitter.

My current method is to switch inputs, but this drives my wife crazy, and ATT has problems with HDMI, so I keep needing to reset from 480i to 720 with every input switch.

I'm looking for a simple solution: HDMI inputs to both TV and HTR with no loss of fidelity. We usually only use HTR for Blu and VUDU, but occasionally Ill watch sports or movies via Uverse, and I like to get the full effect.

Anyone use a splitter they recommend?

Thx, GPA

Yeah, my router (Linksys E3000) also allows for direct USB drive plug-in, but that's only half the step - the other half is the router's ability to broadcast the contents of the drive via DLNA (which my router can do). Then I can see it on the LG as a standard DLNA input.

It sounds like the Netgear is missing the ability to "broadcast" a USB drive via DLNA.

Hello,

I own an LG 47LW5700 (the model w/o Local Dimming). I've had my tv hacked to have local dimming since basically Day 1. Yesterday, I updated to the newest firmware and my Settings Menu (not the service menu) has my local dimming option grayed out and useable .

Somethings that might be noted, in my service menu I tried tricking the TV into thinking it was a LW5600, that didn't work in un-graying out the local dimming option again. As of right now here are my service menu settings.

1. Does any one know how to fix this issue (this wasn't an issue until I updated my firmware to 04.03.03)
2. I've tried doing a Hard Reset (unplug the tv and hit the power button for a few sec, till the capacitors stop making a clicking sound)
3. I've tried changing my TV to a 5600 in the service menu (that didn't work), and as shown above all local dimming options are set to 1 (meaning they're on).
4. I tried downgrade firmware to 4.03.02 and the local dimming menu is still gray'ed out and unusable. Any help would be appreciated!

Before this firmware update my tv worked fine and my local dimming worked great. I'm not sure why the option is grayed out. Its grayed out in all video settings. if it helps the only other settings I've messed with is turning on the THX TV settings (i.e the picture settings only). No other options were messed with.

Thanks for the help!

Sorry for the trouble after 3 resets and firmware updates, my local dimming was finally not grayed out. It was gray'ed out regardless of what tv settings I had and what video output I selected. I'm just happy its working again as the tv looks loads better with it on.

Is anyone else having issues getting Netflix movies to play after the 04.03.03 update? I can get into my queue, but it wont play anything.
That's strange, I too recieved the 04.03.03 update a few days ago, but I can still use the (unlocked) local dimming feature with my TV. As my name states I have the 42" model LW5700-UE version. Not too sure what the UE stands for but everything I unlocked via the LG service Menu Android App still works including the unlocked THX and THX 3D picture settings.ot

**EDIT** I see you got it working again, glad you fixed it.
