Anybody have any luck getting netflix play on device functionality to work? Works great with youtube (Youtube android app > play on TV), but can't seem to get it sorted for Netflix.

thanks!!

I found that same menu. I'm on version 2011.02.09.01.02a. I actually clicked Start (because I'm stupid) and after a couple of seconds my TV went blank. I waited and nothing happened. I thought I'd bricked it, but a reboot sorted it out. I won't press it again until I know what it does.

Tried doing the factory reset. Updated to latest firmware. Also deactivated all devices attached to my Netflix account. Even changed to Google DNS servers as I heard that could help. Still getting the same problem about every 2 days. Have to deactivate Netflix and sign back in to play anything. I love this TV but the smart features are crap. Became way too slow about 3 updates ago. About to just buy a Roku 3 to run on the tv.

My wife watches Netflix on our 55LW5600 all the time. No issues that I have seen. TV is on the latest FW that it automatically downloads.

I actually started having an issue with netflix right after Iposted I never had issu:rolleyes:es

My netflix would buffer for a minute, play 30 seconds and stop.I realized it wasn't jsut my TV though, as my other streaming devices had the same issue. My solution was to unplug the power for ALL my networked devices, up to and including the modem. Then power them back on starting at the top (modem) and working my way down (blu ray players) slowly. Haven't had an issue since.

You could try that route and see what happens. Do your other streaming services work fine? (youtube Vudu etc)

Otherwise I'm at a loss for how you can solve this. You could possibly verify its the TV by starting a NEW netflix account (1 month trial codes all over the net) and set that on your tv and compare between devices. If its still TV only.........*shakes head*

My other devices work fine. Both Rokus and my Blu-ray player. My router is set to reboot daily at 3AM. Cable modem just got replaced. (Unrelated issue, just found out Comcast gave us double the bandwidth for free but needed a Docsis 3.0 modem). Tried swapping network cables to the TV. Router was replaced 2 months ago and was doing this with the old setup and new setup. I haven't checked yet but can we do a manually IP assignment for the TV. I will try that tonight when I get home but that is the last thing I can think of.

I haven't seen any such feature for Netflix (Android app > play on TV). The stand-alone Netflix app works perfectly on my TV--it's the only app on my TV that does. I use it more than watching regular TV.

Sometime during the last 1-3 weeks, the Netflix app on my TV stopped giving me 5.1 sound. I only receive a 2.1 signal despite selecting 'Dolby Digital Plus 5.1' in Netflix.

The problem does not seem to be the receiver or the optical audio cable, because I am still receiving 5.1 sound through the Vudu app. I tried updating to 05.00.12 but the problem persists.

Has this happened to anyone else? Is there any way to reset or re-install the Netflix app?
Solved. I did two things, and I am not sure which one did the trick:

(1) I switched the video quality on the Netflix website to from "Good quality" to "Best quality",
(2) I deactivated Netflix and then signed back in (on advice by an LG agent via live chat).

Since I don't remember changing the the video quality earlier, it's weird if it's the first one. And since a factory reset didn't work earlier, again it's weird if it's the second one.

Nevertheless, I am happy that I again have 5.1 sound from Netflix.

I have to say that I really really really like these display settings. It seems like most 'highly agreed upon' display settings posted in this thread have a way of making the picture look 'gray' as another user also commented on recently. I do like the 'gray' settings that I've used for the past year on this television set, but after putting the settings you suggested as being 'eye candy' I am very happy with the way my set looks.

I would agree with your 'variable' of brightness. I do think 49 is appropriate as opposed to 55.

However, I think the rest is spot on!! Thank you kindly good sir!

I got this set about 80 days ago. For entirety of this time, except for vacations, whenever I have had a free moment, I have been tweaking the calibrations. To say I was obsessive would be an understatement. My wife thinks I'm nuts. But like a mad scientist working on a secret recipe, I finally have settled on a calibration that makes everything look like eye candy, at least to me. I've used this forum extensively as a troller, both pre-purchase, and post-purchase, and so I figured it was time to give as well as I get. I would love to hear anyone's thoughts on this 'secret recipe' if you try out. The one variable I would say is the brightness. I have it here at 55, but occasionally, I drop it down to 51, and even 49. Regardless, after fiddling with hundreds of combinations, this is what I've got. Hope you enjoy:

Just tried these and I have to admit it looks fabulous on my 5600. Thanks much for these settings. Big thumbs up!

So today my screen got scratched. Ugh. I was reading about various scratch repair solutions and wondered if anyone tried it on the lw5600 (or lw6500) due to them having the anti glare screen.

So, is there a best option to fix it? There's 2 small scratches maybe a 1/2 inch long each. I'd say they're deep but not deep enough to damage the panel (the pixels there seem fine).

Thanks,

K

some say vaseline works, but I've never scratched my screens, not sure how it would look on the newer sets. On older sets, the vaseline fills the scratch and you just wipe off the excess.

First I've heard of that one.  But on an anti-glare screen?  If it's in any way related to the other anti-glare screen, this is likely to cause a smear that can't easily be cleaned off.

hence the "not sure how it would look on the newer sets" part....

Ps netflix has sound through both, all the settings in the cable box and blueray player are correct

Did either of you change any picture settings recently? If you post your picture settings I can help you from there. I just need to have a reference from where you are now to steer you in the right direction.

First try a factory reset on the set. Let us know if that works.

Does anyone know what is the max bitrate capability of the Nettflix app on the LW5600? Searched for the info to no avail.

I'm through a isp with open connect and my connection can support 5800kbps several times over. All my other devices receive superhd (5800kbps), yet the 47LW5600 netflix app always maxes out at 3000kbps (720p). The wireless n600 router is more than capable and it's also been tested wired directly to the router. Also, deactivated/re-activated the device through the tv and site. With all that stated, does anyone know the apps max bitrate?

Anyone have any issues with horizontal grayish lines going through the whole screen? I have the 55LM6700 and I am not very happy they just popped up today

Are the lines static, or do they move?

I hate to sound like a repeating robot, but try a factory reset, also unplug it for a while (overnight). See if that helps. I had a similar issue witha Sammy a few years ago and that did the trick. I was probably very lucky with that though.

I'm just a little curious, how do you know the tv is maxing out at 720p\3000kbps?

I am almost positive my set goes higher than that.

I've used "example short 23.976" and monitored the bandwidth on my router. Example short is a Netflix test video which displays the current bitrate/resolution in the top left corner. Example short has properly displayed the bitrate on my other devices.

Interesting. Ya learn something new every day I guess.

I'll have to do some testing myself when I get home after work. Perhaps the app is very ineffcient and has too much overhead, or simply limits at that bit rate. Perhaps its just your set. We'll see!

So I gave it a shot here are my results:
Lg LW 5600: 3000 Kbps
Sony bd players: 3850 Kbps

Personally I always stream with LG because of the UI and the video quality. With the settings and calibration it looks a smidge better than my Sony blu ray players. Less blocking and noise, with less crushed blacks and similar color.

To answer your question, I found the following article you can read.
https://support.netflix.com/en/node/8739

I can't test SuperHD since my ISP ( time Warner cable) is not a compatible ISP. Also, the LG LW series TVs are not compatible either ( yet )

Hope this helps!

Thanks, I appreciate you took the time to test your set and reply with your results. I had read about which devices support 3D through open connect, but I've never seen any documentation specifically stating the max bitrate supported by the LG Netflix app. The supported 3D devices might be the only LG devices which support the higher bitrates/superhd. Hopefully someone else will chime in and we can find the answer.
