Should I upgrade my Onkyo SR608?

Hi everyone,

Im new to avsforum and need some opinion about my 3 months old home theater system.
My set-up are:
1. Klipsch WF-34 (2)
2. Klipsch WC-24
3. Klipsch WB-14 (2)
4. Klipsch KSW-12
5. Onkyo SR608
Im happy with the way it sounds right now but just want to know how big of a difference would it make on my current set-up if I upgrade my avr to 3008 or 5008 in terms of sound quality.

System usage is about 50% music, 50%movie.

conventional wisdom is that you get the most bang from your buck from your speakers then your amplifer. The 608 is a decent receiver and I'm not sure that upgrading your reciever will give that big of difference. Sure it'll be better but I don't think its well worth the $1200 to $1700 in upgrading your avr unit. Thats just me. Esp if this is just an everyday living room setup

I wouldn't bother. Klipsch speakers are pretty efficient so unless you need more features or want Audyssey MultEQ or better, stick with the 608.

Just to add to what everyone is saying, I went from a Denon 1508 to a Denon 3310 and the only improvement in sound quality was due to Audyssey. In direct mode I couldn’t tell a difference. The Onkyo 708 would be small improvement because it uses MultiEQ and your 608 has 2EQ. A bigger jump would be to MultiEQ XT. That would be on the 3008/1007 or Denon 3311. You still may get a bigger improvement by upgrading speakers or adding room treatments.

thanks everyone for saving me >$1000. I guess I'll just stick to whatever I have right now and have fun with it. Maybe I'll just upgrade my speakers and avr after 5 years or so....

The bigger improvement in your system would be a better sub and the Denon 3311. Those two expenditures would give you more bang for your buck IMO.
