YSP 2200 vs YSP 4100 Help please :)

I know I know, you guys are probably tired of helping newbies out, bue maybe you can do you good deed of the day again with me?

Here's the deal: I own a Bose 321 home theater. It's awful after four years, soundwise it's no more than loudness and it fails all the time.

So of course, it's time to give my Blu-Ray the treatment it deserves.

I came across the ysp 2200 and sounds like a great solution, given that it decodes dts hd and true hd. (not to mention the hdmi).

However, there's also the 4100 with 40 speakers....

My layout is this: a 500 sq feet studio. My tv is 5 feet in front of me, and there's a left wall to the left and then the lenght of the room is 17 feet... so it's a 10x17 feet room. (the walls are separated by 17 feet, the tv is just two feet from one wall, and 15 to the other, but I do have a big bookcase in the middle separating the tv room from my "bedroom" (LOL) NY!)

Do you guys think the ysp 2200 would be better than the 4100?

Believe it or not, there's not one single unit in display in Manhattan, either for the 4100 or 2200.

Then I saw the B&W panorama, but im not paying 2000 and for something without HDMI!

Any input, would be greatly appreciated.

Ernesto

Ernesto,
I think either the 2200 or
4100 would serve your purpose.
I am not a huge fan of the Panoramas. While they sound great, their surround effect is not in the league of the

Both YSP must have a subwoofer. While the 2200 is a great value in that it comes with one.. it is an 'ok' sub.
If you go the route of the 4100, you'll have to get a subwoofer, but even a $200 Bic 100 subwoofer to buy with it, will put it in a different class as far as output, bass, and headroom that the 2200.
But as I said, the 2200 is a great value.
Both are YSPs so they both are awesome

Thank you Frostylou!

The 4100 needs a bracket and an extra sub .... mmm... that makes it so more expensive, LOL...

Decisions, decisions...

I would think the 2200 should be enough. And living in an apartment in NYC you really don't want low bass (that your neighbors hear) anyway.

And don't forget the YSP 2200 is designed to put it on a shelf but the 4100 is for wall mount and as you are renting that might be an issue

I have heard both on a rather limited basis. To my ears (which many would claim are more than a little flawed), the 2200 had a better overall sound. I put zero added weight for the number of drivers when it comes to producing good overall sound. Either device will fill your room with good clean sound. The sound processing for the 2200 appears to be a more advanced and cleaner design than that of Yamaha's previous bars.

I also would not overly worry about adding a sub if you select the 4100. The mid/low drivers have some decent output below 100hz. If you are not looking to rock the walls or feel sledgehammer bass in your gut, this is really pretty good.

Thanks everyone!
Based on your suggestions I think I'm gonna go for the 2200.
I will order this weeekend on Amazon
And will let you know when I install it how is it.
I missed the 599 sale last week at this store from amazon called "etailelectronics", but it seems "jersey camera" has it for 680.

Have a great weekend!

I purchased the Universal Soundbar Brackets and some shelf supports (as the 2200 has no mounting holes) to attach everything to the mounted TV.

But my wife decided to put the YSP on the audio rack.

So if you want the above for a nice price (work in downtown NYC) let me know

So far so good. Only did the auto set up but I am getting nice effects. Not too much from behind as this is where the curtains are, but way from the right etc. Sounds like a surround set up. My wife loves it and even the dogs sometimes look for the source of the sound (trying to figure out where that noise came from).

I received yesterday my YSP 2200, installed it with auto setup and played "drag me to hell". I had to adjust manually the "center speaker" as it was difficult to hear the dialogs. It sounds spectacular. And to think I payed much more for my Bose 321. What a piece of (bleep) those Bose things.

However I have one concern. I played The Dark Knight and in some scenes, mainly when the batpod and the motorcycle are used there's some noise (crackling or crush) in the subwoofer, the same at the end of the movie with the final score. As if it had an electric interference or as if it couldn't reproduce the powerful bass of the movie... any ideas???

today I will try other movies. hopefully i didnt' get a deffective subwoofer?
and it's just the dark knight? i did try drag me to hell and chicago and didn't have any problem...

Glad you like it. Adjust the center speaker? Guess I have to read the manual

I've been investigating them, but have a question.

According to the compare under the technology section, the 4100/5100 have DTS Digital Surround and Pro Logic II. When I scroll down to the audio formats, it states the 2200 also has these. Is this the case?

I'd rather not go with one or the other if it's missing several surround sound formats. I've heard the 4100 and it sounds good enough for my tastes (I'm not an audiophile by any means), but being that the 2200 is newer... (Price really isn't an issue as NewEgg has the 4100 for about $1000 this weekend).

I have heard the 4100 in a home environment. I have heard the 2200 in a dedicated listening room in a high end audio shop. To my ears (and remembering that these auditions where months apart), the 2200 was more refined with a better sound stage than the 4100. Also, the processing sounds were almost gone on the 2200. I had owned a previous YSP and the sound processing and lack of dynamic range was the killer for me. Replace the YSP with a $98 Vizio that blew it out of the water. Not just my opinion, the same for all that heard it over the two weeks that I had both where they could be a/b'd before handing off the YSP to my son.

hi there just want to clarify few things on what looks like a great product.

1. can this be used with a projector and my av receiver?ie i choose my sources there and use one hdmi out to the YSP and then it will send video signal to the projector .am i understanding it right?
2.. is it going to be a problem that i am trying to mount this on top of my projector screen so at least 4ft above my seating position. can i specify height in the set up?
3. can you use longer wire as the sub woofer needs to be under my bed?
4. the yamaha bracket does not work - this one needs me to build a shelf ?
5. or should i just pay up for the wireless model 4100?

I know this is an old post but I had a question. How far up did you adjust the center? That's my biggest complaint with this soundbar is that the voices sound muffled and almost tinny. I have it on +3 do I need to go a lot higher?

Thanks

Josh
