If what you were experiecing was screen tearing thats not fixable and its not the fault of the TV, developers sometimes need to get extra frames per second and to do that they leave VSYNC off.

Break-in doesn't have anything to do with burn in or IR. It has to do with calibrating the set later.

Alot of people say breaking in the tv helps with IR.. I did it just incase because so many people told me to do it. Most people said keep the TV off torch mode the first month or 2.. I dont think breaking in the tv helps with IR, but I did because so many people said to do it.

one odd thing, my 36o is older and uses components, and this tv will only support 1080i with it (1080p isnt recognized). this didnt happen with other tv

Only some TV's accept 1080p over component.

Am I reading this right that the ST30 won't accept 1080p???

Through component cables, not HDMI.

I bought a 50st30 about 3 weeks ago, and personally, I could not be happier. It's been on about 6 hours a day and I've done little adjusting to the pic/color to this point. I find the picture is amazing and the colors are deep and rich. I'd like to get it calibrated at some point, but I reallly like this TV.

No buzzing, great pic and hooked up to my Yamaha receiver, the sound is incredible.

I bought some Definitive speakers for my rear sound and they are very nice.

Have you noticed any green tint or green blobs? And if so, are they dissipating over time?

This set has no green blobs.

Last set had light colored blobs that showed up in some normal viewing material. The center had a DSE with a green tint to it.

Clearly, they can be green blob free. Judging from the amount of complaints I would say there is a high degree of recieving a green blob set, currently. However, March builds are being sold now and perhaps they fixed the green tint problem in these builds. Look into it if youre considering swapping your set out. D-Nice reported that the green problem greatly improved as the panel aged. At least thats what I heard. You can ask him directly, but dont hold your breath on a reply

For me, it will come down between these two TVs (P50GT25/P50ST30).

I have the P50GT25 unopened and I am trying to decide if I should instead get the ST30.

What are the pros and cons of the GT25 and ST30? I am concerned about reflection and motion artifacts. Some reviews said that the ST had problems with artifacts.

Do I gain anything (other than THX) over the ST30 with the GT25? But then what would I gain with the ST?

If it matters, the ST will cost about $200 more.

Thanks.

Hey guys just received my st3055 and have been running the slides for about 30 hours. Are you guys noticing the green tint or blobs on the white slides. I notice a little discolered greenish tint in one area of the tv. I only see it on the white slides and its pretty hard to notice. Im hoping it gets better with break in.

You gain less chance of floating blacks and possibly rising blacks by going with the ST30.

Hi, new member here. I was watching episode 5 of BOB blu ray on my ST30 and noticed when Easy Company is being shelled at night my TV is doing something odd. When there is a sudden flash, about 8" down from the top there is a horizontal space all the way across. From that point up the pic seems to be a different shade than the rest. It's very noticeable. Thought it might be the source so I popped in The Pacific and it does the same thing during the battle at Alligator Creek in the first episode. Again, another night scene with sudden flashes. Any idea what's causing this? Btw, I'm using a PS3 to play Blu rays. Also, I happen to have the dvd version of BOB and the problem didn't occur when I tried it. Thanks.

I previously owned a Panasonic 54" G25 and the black level was dark gray at best, and it buzzed. I was really turned off by plasma technology. That was my first TV in 7 years. I bought a Sharp 52" LE920, and "luckily" it arrived with some minor damage and I was able to get the place where I bought it from to take it back. I say luckily because they only accept returns if the item is received damaged, and I found the viewing angles on the Sharp to be unacceptable, and there was some clouding all along the bottom of the TV and the top corners. Anyway... I asked if I could get a Panasonic 55st30 instead. They allowed it. I received it Friday. I've been playing around with it and I must say, my G25 must have just been a POS because I am very satisfied with the blacks on this TV so far. I'm happy that I ended up with plasma. I needed the wide viewing angles, because my TV is in a corner, and the seating is arranged wear nobody has a perfectly straight on view of the set -- unless they sit diagonal a bit.
I downloaded the break-in slides, put them on a usb stick, and they are being displayed in slideshow mode on my ST30 as I type this.
I'm happy, so far.
Thanx D-Nice for the settings. Thanx a lot

also he said that his settings were only to be used after the 100 hour break in slides... idk if it matters that much thou.

Keep updating and I will do the same so we can see if its just settings or the tv!

100% agree. D-Nice's settings are a great starting point if you didn't run the slides for 100 hours (I only did about 50 with TV viewing mixed in). I would not just plug them in and expect to be happy if you didn't follow his instructions though. I also had a green tint with them so I made the needed corrections and I feel my color is now perfect.

I thought that the the GT25 had issues with floating blacks. Was that only on the G25?

So in general, you fee l that there is more downside to going with the unproven ST30 vs the GT25.

I wouldn't use that as a logical reason to pass on the Gt25

Seeing how alot of the reviews for the ST30 are not experiencing floating blacks, and seeing how floating blacks is an extremely annoying issue , I think it's sufficiently logical.

Throw in rising blacks may be fixed (we won't know for sure until some sets are revisisted after 2-3k hours), and I don't see why you would opt for a GT25 over an ST30 aside from THX. (picture quality for both sets should be very close with similair black levels for both sets plus the numerous improvements/changes for the newer 2011 set) It's all about tradeoffs when buying a new set.

Because of cheaper price and better thx. That's why.

"better THX?"

THX cert just means they paid THX to test the panels. It's very likely the ST30's would pass THX test but they cost less because Panasonic didn't pay for that on those models. It's not a "better or worse THX" situation.

I heard you have to use Cinema mode to get the 600hz? What does it do and what kind of material would you notice is on? Games?

??? Where did you hear that????

Share answer no. 600 hz refers to the subfeild drive and is on all modes. It is the way the panel works.

Not entirely true. To get 600hz with an interlaced mode (480i/1080i) 2010 model's needed to be in Cinema/THX mode. Unless they changed something with these 2011 models, I would think it's still working the same way.

If you are going to notice it at all, it's going to be on scenes with fast action. (sports, action movies etc) Again, as long as the signal is progressive (480p, 720p, 1080p) then the 600hz tech will work in any mode.

Hi LS,

Sorry for the late reply. If you want to try to recreate this issue, I would try to find a scene that has a cut between high-contrast shots.

One scene, as an example was during "The People Under The Stairs (Netflix Streaming)," where the boy Fool, is talking to the a girl, who is standing by a bright window. Whenever it cuts from the boy to the girl, the brightness fluctuates.

I have seen the problem arise many many times during the HBO show, Treme," again, going from a darker shot to a brighter shot (someone standing in the shade to someone standing in the bright sunlight).

I have also witnessed the television struggling to "zone in" on the right color, as well. Sometimes, a person's skin color will be tinted, switch to a different tint, and then lock on the correct color. I've only noticed this a small handful of times, whereas the lighting fluctuation, I notice daily.

My current television has a processing issue, I'm sure of it.
