hi i wanted to ask owners of this tv that use netflix if they can change aspect ratio of the picture so taht there are no black bars for the non 16:9 movies, etc

i have a s30 and this is not an option with the netflix on this tv which is really frustrating, if this model has it i might have to return it and switch

Can't you just change it in the settings of the tv like you can with normal content. Really though you should watch it how its meant to be displayed, netflix is bad enough, then you want to stretch or zoom in, yikes.

i cant thats the problem, when in netflix mode the aspect ratio is greyed out and i cant change the format at all using the netflix app. just asking people that have this tv and have the netflix app, no need for people just speculating as this wont offer any useful info or advice

My GT25 and my ST30 both lack the option to change aspect ratios. I was able to bypass this problem by using Netflix on my blu-ray player for movies and tv shows which require an aspect adjustment. The television will change aspects when going through the blu-ray player.

As far as buzzing goes, I'd say the ST30 is a little bit more quiet than the GT25, but not significantly (unless your GT25 buzzes awfully loud).

Sorry for the late reply. If you want to try to recreate this issue, I would try to find a scene that has a cut between high-contrast shots.

One scene, as an example was during "The People Under The Stairs (Netflix Streaming)," where the boy Fool, is talking to the a girl, who is standing by a bright window. Whenever it cuts from the boy to the girl, the brightness fluctuates.

I have seen the problem arise many many times during the HBO show, Treme," again, going from a darker shot to a brighter shot (someone standing in the shade to someone standing in the bright sunlight).

I have also witnessed the television struggling to "zone in" on the right color, as well. Sometimes, a person's skin color will be tinted, switch to a different tint, and then lock on the correct color. I've only noticed this a small handful of times, whereas the lighting fluctuation, I notice daily.

My current television has a processing issue, I'm sure of it.
I know what you are talking about. I seen it as well on my st30. it starts where there is a bright scene, and then changes to mid level lighting. the lighting looks bright and then the whole screen brightness drops down a few levels. I seen it while watching Spartacus. A little pissed when I seen it. I also seen it one other time during a regular TV show.

The Panel Brightness setting is only accessible in the Pro Settings menu. And the Pro Settings menu is only accessible when the TV is in Custom Mode.

What do you mean by "is it safe"? It won't like catch fire or anything . . . .

It's very noticeable. Thought it might be the source so I popped in The Pacific and it does the same thing during the battle at Alligator Creek in the first episode. Again, another night scene with sudden flashes. Any idea what's causing this? Btw, I'm using a PS3 to play Blu rays. Also, I happen to have the dvd version of BOB and the problem didn't occur when I tried it. Thanks.
Sorry about bumping my own post but I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on this.

I'm not sure I understand what you are seeing.

Are you saying that the flash during BOB was not a part of the movie or that because of the flash in the movie the sky fluctuated in color or brightness and then stayed that way or did it return to what you felt was the way it should be?

It's happening because of the flash. About 8 inches down there is a straight line all the way across horizontally and from that point up looks brighter and yellowish. Only lasts for an instant but it's pretty noticeable and annoying.

I have been reading through this forum for a couple weeks and haven't seen this exact problem brought up. Sounds like some sort of a processing issue. Do you have c.a.t.s turned on or off? Don't think that it would actually matter but just trying to place if there's any setting that's causing it. Also is there any other scene / video that it has been reproduced besides BOB or The Pacific?

Someone else on this thread had posted the same issue you are having and have posted a video of it happening during the Dark Night. I myself have seen it. they are horizontal lines that go across the screen when there are extreme changes in the scenes. I seen it once when I watch the first episode of The Pacific. it is during the first major battle that occurs. At the end of the scene they have a close up of a machine gun firing and I could see horizontal lines cross over the muzzle of the machine gun. When I first seen it I freaked out so I decided to test the TV with multiple material and could not reproduce it. So it may be something that happens rarely or could be source related.

Is this what you are talking about?

I quit trying to find flaws in my tv and just enjoy it. If you bought a $1,000,000 Bugatti Veyron and over analyzed it constantly you'd find flaws in it. If something just sticks out and it's noticeable I'd return my set but I'm not gonna stare at the screen like a zombie looking for flaws because I'll guarantee they are there. No tv is perfect. I love my st30.

C.a.ts. is off. I've only seen it happen in those two instances so far but haven't watched alot of fast paced material yet. I do think it might be a processing issue also because it is not happening when I play the same scene of BOB on regular dvd.

I highly recommend calling Panasonic to see what's going on and if it can be fixed. At least that's what I would do, either that or return the tv.

I own the 55st30 and there is no perceivable lag in game mode. I love this TV. This is coming from someone who owned a 50c7000 and a 50gt25. The picture to me is much better than both of those models and the black levels are very nice.

Dead space is a great game to see how well the TV handles dark scenes and it looks absolutely AMAZING on this TV. It may be the mid tier model but it looks better than both of the two TVs above to my eyes. Much better black levels than the c7000 and much better shadow detail than the Gt25.

OK first time anything-but-a-CRT TV owner here.

Got a P42ST30 two days ago to replace issue-prone GT25. Doing the dnice break in method with the 1080p color photos via USB on a slideshow loop.

Just started doing the break in about 5 hours into the tv life (didn't realize I wasn't supposed to watch any TV on it until after the 100 hour break in and customized settings)...

I have two issues and I need someone to tell me if I should be concerned, since I don't know squat about plasma tv's and I need to learn and become an expert because now i have one and I insist on knowing all my gadgets intimately...

Anyway, first issue is this. I can see two pixels seemingly misfiring. One starts blinking during all colors but red shades and the other goes completely dark in all blue shades. Neither one can be noticed by my eyes from more than about 5 feet away. Both light up uniformly on certain colors but not all.

Second issue. Been running the break in slides from 7am to 10pm today nonstop. Finally decided to give the TV a bit of a rest before getting some good break in time while I sleep and I ran the anti-retention tool scroll bar for 15 minutes. 4 pixels near the top left corner of the screen stayed white the whole time, until I turned the TV off. Is this what's called image retention?

Should I not run the TV continuously for the 100 hours? My plan was to run it nonstop starting this morning and be done with the break in by Friday afternoon...is that crazy?

Any help would be greatly appreciated...Apologies if this is the wrong thread I couldn't decide which thread would be more appropriate the master break-in thread or this ST30 thread.

Update:

Let the TV sit and cool off for about 15 mintues then ran the scroll bar again. Same thing. It seems to only happen with the scroll bar. As soon as I switch back to whatever input mode I was on the white pixels shut off and behave normally...But I need to know that my TV isn't broken and that I am not breaking it...it's coming on midnight here and I have to work tomorrow so if no one tells me different I am just going to run the slides all night...

No. Just no. Complete bs. Shadow detail isn't something the st30 has over a GT set. As well as blacks.

The white square in the upper left corner is there for everyone with a st30 while running scrolling bar. I asked the same question about 6-8 pages back.

I also just pretty much used my tv how I wanted straight out of the box. I kept it at 50 for brightness and contrast for the first 4-5 hours but now I have it set to what I think looks good (brightness 60's contrast 70's).I've been playing ps3 on it, using it as a computer monitor, watching Netflix with black bars at the top and bottom and none of it has caused an issue. I'm no tv expert but I figure panasonic has got the burn in issue fixed and if it was a big concern they'd have a warning on the box saying "Run photo burn in slides 100 hours before use!". Which just typing that sounds pretty ridiculous IMO.

Ah, thank you for that. I feel a little better. I swear the worst blind date I ever orchestrated was when I took my OCD to meet Mr. Plasma TV...

Interesting. DNice recommends 100 Contrast on the break in slides, which I am doing (30 hours and counting )

Still would like feedback from anyone who is doing the slides as to whether or not they've noticed certain pixels misbehaving on certain colors...2 pixels out of a gazillion isn't bad though...
