Have you turned the CATS off? If not do it now...

Other people's settings won't necessarily look good on your particular TV - there are too many variables in environment, personal preference, and most importantly - variations between the different cable and broadcast channels.

And if for instance you came up with settings that looked fantastic for The Today Show on NBC-HD, as soon as you switch to Good Morning America on ABC-HD the colors and skin tones look different and suddenly those settings don't look as good.

I use our local KNBC-HD local news broadcast over antenna to adjust the picture on the various TVs i set up (simple eyeball adjustments using the regular menus). I get the skin tones looking as accurate as possible as i consider that the most important thing to have accurate colors on.

Just bring up your menu and see if it's grainy. That will answer if it's the source or the TV itself.

Mine is grainy in the menu when in Standard mode but custom or cinema look fine. 3D is grainy regardless of setting but with glasses on and normal sitting distance I can't see it at all.

I have only watched one 3D movie so far and I ended up running it in Vivid mode to make up for the glasses making everything darker. It was pretty awesome. Just wondering what settings you guys watch your 3D in? I also played with the depth setting and while -3 gave it some really good depth, I felt like some areas I could see both the left and right image, so I moved it to -1.

So I just saw a commercial stating that @ Best Buy with the purchase of a qualified Viera TV you get a free Skype camera... but have not found anything on the net regarding that...

FYI, and I know this is an old post, but I was going to order on Amazon and have it delivered. Best Buy matched Amazon's price and it was local so no shipping. So if you guys want to avoid the risk of shipping, go to Best Buy and show em the Amazon price. It's also less of a hassle if something goes wrong with your tv.

No harm towards Amazon, I love em and buy stuff all the time, but for something this big and delicate, it's best to get it locally.

I've had the 50ST30 for about 10 days now and its looking better than ever. I love the colors and the deep blacks are amazing. Coming from a LCD, the plasma just looks so much more realistic. Movies are much better on the Panasonic. Dark Night is a huge improvement and so is Silence of the Lambs. I am wondering if I should return it and get the 55 inch. I've seen some people complaining about buzzing on the 55 and I don't hear any buzzing on the 50 unless I'm right behind it. I also have not seen any of the floating whites that people are talking about so I really hate to return it and get a bad one. I still have 20 more days to make a decision so Ill figure it out.

I have the 55" About 12 hours into the slides. Buzzing is very minimal, only way I can even hear that its there is if its absolutely quiet, and even then only when something bright is on screen. No discoloration or uniformity issues. Go with the 55" you wont regret it!

I really don't think it's worth the hassle trading in a 50 for a 55. It's not that big of a gain IMO. I saw them side by side at Best Buy.

Yea, I do not hear any buzzing either in my 50ST30, and yes,, I had to watch Dark Knight again,,,is just amazing on this TV. Like you I'm coming from a Samsung D6400 and the picture quality in this set is just amazing. and just so you know,, even so the price of the 50" on Bestbuy website is $1349.00 in reality is @ $1199 @ the store.

Except you'll have to run the slides again, package the TV up and transport it without breaking it, and hope that the new set doesnt have any flaws b/c then you'll have to take that one back to. If his 50 is already flawless I seriously wouldnt bother.

It's actually 224 more square inches (21% increase) so it'd be a noticeable step up... but it is annoying to return a TV.

All valid points from everyone. I am still up in the air but its more like 80/20 in favor of returning for the 55. I don't want to be sitting here in 2 months thinking man I wish I would have gotten the 55. Its only 300 more so I think it would be worth it. The 50 is great for 16:9 content but when I'm watching 2.35:1 material I think it needs to be a little bigger. I just have to find an SUV again this weekend. My buddies RAV4 worked for the 50 but it was just barely tall enough so hopefully the 55 box is not much taller. Hopefully the 55 won't have any issues so I don't have to hassle with it.

Yea I got it the Monday it went on sale. It was 1349 the first time I went in but when I went back it was down to 1199. They had an open box for 1049 but I wanted a new one so I could run the slides.

How is the normal to 3d conversion on this tv? Saw it at Best Buy today with some 3d olympic content and it looked okay but pretty understated. hopefully some of it is just it being a floor model and calibrating it will make it look better because the one on the wall looked kinda blurry and dark.

I went with the ST because the 550 looked like a mirror in best buy. The ST did a much better job with all the lights and reflections.

it looks like this very good set, i am trying to decide on one of these sizes for bedroom, will replace samsung 46 inch LCD, i am very happy with my 50 inch Panny plasma in main setup, my only concern is the audio output on tv since i use polk audio sound bar which do not have digital input, are there any solution for this issue (digital to analog audio output conversion).

i use a pioneer bluray player and do not want to upgrade a BD player but looks like i would need a 3d bluray player, my current setup is DTV HD DVR and apple tv connected to Samsung 46 inch LCD, polk audio SD sound bar.

Can some one verify the audio output on ST models. do i need a wifi adapter with this model or will connect to my router wirelessly out of the box.

thanks

Here's what I upgraded from.....

This old 2004 32" flat screen 1080i...that weighed almost 100 lbs!

It was replaced with this big 50...

Yeah they've actually went up on that site about $150 on the 55" compared to when I bought mine about a month ago. I guess they're selling pretty well so why lower the price?
ah, i was talking about the 42"

Hello,

Just purchased a TC-P50ST30 From BestBuy and declined the extended warrenty. Should I go ahead and get the two year warrenty?

I still need to buy the Blu-Ray player.

Thanks

Frank
