Official Panasonic 2011 TC-PxxST30 Thread [No Price Talk] - Page 114

I have a vertical line running the whole screen and don't know if this is something that can get fix. I did the 100 hrs. slides and everything was looking good. The last thing I did was update the firmware to version 2.06 it had 2.01.

Anybody have an idea what can it be?

Doesn't look good to me. Can you see it over regular content? Call Panasonic, or whoever you purchased it from ASAP.

This is a big thread with many ST30 owners but the first post does not have any info on the TV. the samsung D7000 thread has so much useful info.

Cleveland Plasma started this thread for sale and marketing purpose I guess. He is not a real ST30 owner.

I have not heard of it at all.

What exact model do you have?
How long have you had it?
What (if you called) did Panasonic have to say?

That's a great point. Maybe if the first post could be a consolidation of useful and pertinent links/FAQ's/information that would be far more useful than a couple pics!

It's a faulty panel. Return it or have Panasonic fix it.

Hey guys, I'm trying to decide on this or a LED 240HZ set.

I'm worried about the moving brightness, is this a big problem?

Anyway, is this tv OK for watching news for long periods of time or sports without problems of IR?

Also, is the motion performance better than LED 240HZ or not?

Thx

anyone know where panasonic 65ST30 was made? I hang up mine and can't look at the back.
The sets are assembled in Mexico. Not sure where the various components are created, though.

It is a 55ST30. I received it last week tuesday and I finished the slides on saturday. Everything looked fine until I got close to the panel while connecting a DVD player and noticed it.

Amazon is sending me a replacement. Waiting for another 100 hrs. is going to be agonizing.

Thanks to everyone for all the info and even the random chatter. ;-)
I got my 42ST30 in on Friday (from Amazon via Home Direct but actually delivered by B&H Moving), ran a limited selection of the break-in slides (the brightest ones largely) for about 24 hours, then input D-Nice's settings. It looks amazing with games, Blu-rays/HD-DVDs, and high-bandwidth 1080i OTA HDTV stations. I then proceeded to play video games all day for the next several days, running the slides again intermittently (but not at night) and didn't get any obvious image-retention/burn-in. I'm fairly sensitive to input lag, and I haven't detected any yet, but I've been playing XB360 and so going into the TV w/ a native progressive signal via HDMI--I'll later test the component inputs (progressive and interlaced) and the composite input (480i and 240p) to see how classic games look and play on it.
Thanks again to all who've contributed to this thread, it made me confident in ordering the ST30, and I haven't yet been disappointed whatsoever. :-)

I was originally looking at the Samsung 8000 series LED's. I thought they looked aesthetically beautiful, but the more I read online the more I heard about the positives of picture quality that you get in a plasma. Panasonic plasmas pretty much showed up every time you searched professional reviews for best picture TVs over the past few years.

So that got me looking into them more. Beyond that, a plasma gets you a lot more screen for your money. I got a 65" plasma for probably less than I was going to get a 55" sammy LED. It wasn't the deciding factor, but it played a part.

I really wanted LED at first because I thought it would last a lot longer. Nobody could readily confirm that that would be the case, however. Even people selling them.

As of right now, I have a very nice panasonic st30 and, even though it's not as pretty as the samsung, the tradeoff is knowing when i turn the tv on the more important pretty shows up.

I heard that the samsung peeling issue on D7000/D8000 could be due to excessive heat. Heat is the electronic enemy, any excessive heat over a long period of time can shorten electronic components and causes all kind of issues.

I am surprised that my 65ST30 is not hot at all. it is much cooler than my 42" 6-year-old panasonic plasma.

how hot is your tv?

6 years ago when you walked around a store you could literally feel when you were getting near the plasmas. Today it's much different and they have gotten so much better. My st30, like yours, does not produce much heat at all.

Just picked up my 60" ST30 and currently running D-Nice's break-in settings. My question is for those of you using glasses. I need to grab some but wanted to get some opinions first. Also it appears that Panasonic will be releasing new glasses at the end of the month and was wondering if I should just wait. Any recommendations?

If it's not urgent I would probably wait at least to see what the new glasses are about.

However, I have some panny glasses and I think they're fine. They aren't uncomfortable and frankly, the people who think they look dumb wearing the glasses need to get over it. I mean... everyone is watching a movie anyways, not looking at your glasses. Get over your ego! lol

I don't know about the new glasses but I have heard panny is trying to release some more cost effective glasses. And they need to because the current ones are kind of ridiculous expensive.

I agree you should probably wait to see how the new ones are but if you pick up the avatar pack for $200 it isn't a bad deal and you can sell avatar for a good bunch of money. I like my pack which I got free but I have debated buying another so I can get 4 glasses.

To 55st30 owners, I would like to find out there are cooling fans in the back of the set ? Thank you in advance.
I think the problems people are complaining about with motion handling in games were more than likely present in CRTs, but since many of you have had an LCD for a while, you have forgotten how the picture on a CRT is. I remember in Grand Tourismo 2 or 3 you could unlock a 60Hz version of a track and how odd it looked (basically how the scrolling on the xBox menu looked).

Plasmas basically work the same as a CRT right? Except each pixel is separate from each other.

Thanks for the reply guys. Was just poking around in the 3D section and came across the Monster Vision Max glasses and although pretty dang expensive, I think these maybe my purchase. I figure 16 benjamins for the tv, I should be willing to spend the money on good glasses.

Here's a quick question... I'm running a slideshow on the big solid colors (dont think it was Dnice's, but that other real popular one) but how long do you set each slide to (in seconds)?
Hey guys got a quick question for you.

I'm still trying to decide between a new Sammy and a new Pana, I was hell bent on the Sammy D6900 (6 series in AUS) because they have the same panel as the D8000 but I mean I'm seriously considering a Panasonic now.

So my question is, do the ST, GT and VT all have the same panels? And what are the differences?

I actually like the the look of the ST and if it's the same panel and the differences are marginal like that of the new Sammy range then a new 60" ST it will be for me! I don't want to have to go to 65" for the GT which is too big and the 55" is too small.

We don't even have the VT's in Australia yet, and that which we have of the ST and GT is quite limited still.

Well D-Nice's are set to "slow".

I ran them on slow, which is what was recommended by D-Nice. However, since you are not following his procedure I'm not sure it matters.

I'm wondering why the prices at Amazon went up so much, nearly $200 from two weeks ago (for the 42" panel)?

All reviews/reports I've read put the picture quality of the ST30 and GT30 very close together. The GT30 has 4 HDMI inputs, PC input, THX mode, more attractive design, and a little bit deeper black levels. However, the GT30 appears to have more issues with fluctuating brightness.

The VT30 tops both in black levels and overall picture quality, though I can't really discuss the differences since I don't know much about it.

I chose the ST30 because it provides the greatest picture with the least effort (no need to go into service menu), and was the best value for me. I also like the design of the cabinet.

can someone point me to the post that shows what to do the first 100 hours or straight out of the box
