I purchased a 65st30 as a size upgrade to a 50S1. I did run the slides for 150 hours and used D-Nices settings and I will say that I am perfectly pleased with my purchase and for the st's price point is an awesome tv that leaves me wanting for nothing.
Personally as far as the picture goes using the above methods and settings it is extremely natural and life like appearing which is what I was after. I have noticed no flaws with the set I have and would recommend it to others with no hesitations.
Does that mean it is the best set on the market, no but for me anyway it delivers above expectations and although I could spend more dollars and buy what may be a better rated set but with my old eyes and the enjoyment and wonderful picture this set is giving me I do not think from a personal standpoint the additional expenditure would justify itself.
I think that sometimes when we visit forums researching a product that many times we let negatives overide the positives. One thing that you have to remember is there are some people that will find flaws in anything and seem to be searching for something that most probably does not exist.
But in the real world many of us have a limited budget that we are willing to invest in a product and are looking for the best product that fits our wants and needs within a certain price range. Granted anytime something is built on a production line there will be defective units that slip by and are released for sale but in general these are not reflective of the product that is normally released.
My experience is that the St series offers a lot of product for the dollars spent even to a point that needing to upgrade to the higher GT OR VT series depends on whether the added features or improvements really is that important to the purchaser and to how far he wants to or is able to dig into his wallet.
Waiting for what might be better coming in the future will always leave you waiting to make your purchase until later. If you find a product that seems to fit your needs at a price that you feel is a good value and fits your budget pull the trigger and start enjoying watching your new tv. Remember we are not guaranteed to even be here tomorrow!
