You already stated that you won't be buying another Panasonic and that you're going to buy a Samsung so why are you continually coming into the Panasonic threads other than to be an ass? You serve no purpose here and you don't help anybody so i why are you in all the Panny threads?

Next time you claim to be sarcastic, at least use the Sarcasm smiley.

I love how you keep nagging saying that I have a Panasonic "agenda", yet the only plasma I have ever owned is a Panasonic. Never had a Samsung or LG. But yet if I discuss how it disapppointed me, it means that I have an "agenda".......

Is that your amazing logic? I am so sick of YOU spreading lies.

Actually I believe d-nice has indicated he got .005 on the gt25 and .004 on vt25.

I think the general consensus seems to be that the VT20/25 were 0.004fL, the GT25 0.005fL, and the S2/G20/G25 0.008fL.

Picked up the 42" at B&H yesterday. I have to say that it looks pretty good when calibrated on the PC - my set seems to have a green bias on cinema, but certainly watchable.

Does anyone know the status with Calman 4 and DDC with this display?

It would be a pretty certain purchase with a DIY license plus a plug in. Or I could start watching everything through the Mac...

Why is everyone so caught up on MLL when floating blacks are an issue?

Do you not understand the ST30 is able to hold shadow detail better because the floating blacks are better controlled despite the higher MLL reading? I will trade consistent blacks for a lower MLL reading any day, because the screen is rarely displaying a screen that dark to make the superior MLL reading of last years models outperform this years...
from comments in the panny hype article, about same panels, different panels

"As for all TVs using the same panels, Panasonic calls the VT30 model an infinite black pro 2 panel, while the GT is infinite black. Regardless of how they are achieving claimed deeper blacks, the proof will be in measuring with a meter with better light level accuracy (than a tri-stimulus contact probe) to determine the actual black level. When we get ourhands on a production sample I will make my readings and report them.

My subjective look at the VT30 at CES and at the line show tells me its quite deep. FYI, I place my hands over the screen where there is black content to form a tube to block out as much of the ambient light as possible and then place my eye over my hands. Completely subjective, though one can see how much residual glow there is on the panel. The only way to really know black level is to measure in a dark room with a sensitive, accurate instrument.

HD Guru"

from that same article about rising/floating blacks

"in a meeting last week of European journalists with Panasonic executives, Andrew Everard of whathifi.com (link) writes Panasonic has eliminated the issue with their 2011 models. Here is the quote Oh and by the way - and for those who obsessively niggle at these things on forums worldwide - both the rising and floating black problems have been addressed, and are sorted in 2011 models. There's now no black level shift to compensate for stabilising brightness levels after initial use"

Awesome if true. Stable, non-floating blacks with 0.002 fl MLL, brighter picture, new processor, and better design makes the VT30 pretty darn attractive (disclaimer: if all above are really true). I suppose we'll have to be patient to find out.
hey randy,

did you mention that the gt30's coming out next month or am i mistaken?
Wow seriously. This thread has taken a turn for the worse....

At least I found out my GT25 has only .001 higher black level than the VT25 (that is pretty neat) lol. Well at least for now.

Once my wife saw Avatar in 3D she was good to go.

Initial thoughts:

- quite a load to heft around single handed once out of the box.
- zero audible buzz.
- picture quality is fantastic, Avatar in 3D is like opening the pane. No probs watching with afternoon ambient thri closed blinds.

Blacks: Not as black as my old CRT RP, but the superior detail in the shadows makes the experience more realistic.

2D viewing: Dead Mans Chest (tempting letterbox retention!) And then Monsters Inc. to give it a full screen workout again. Organic is the word that comes to mind.

Has anyone tested the 2D->3D conversion yet? Is it implemented better than what Samsung/Sony offered last year?

I don't personally know when they'll be released, but if i did post anything about it then that would have been how Panasonic's press release stated "March" for the 50" and 55" GT30. The 60" and 65" GT30 are stated "April". Dunno if that is accurate or still on track etc. My gut has been kinda telling me that it won't be out in March though.

Just to confirm, the ST30s do not come with glasses. Is this correct? My 55" ST30 gets delivered tomorrow - do I need to go buy some glasses? If so, is there a "new" starter pack or set of glasses I need to look/wait for?

I work magnolia in one of the best buy stores, and I have yet to see the 50's, but I have seen both the 42 s and st30's. And I have to say the colors on them a very good. All we have playing on them are our 1080i coax best buy loops (haven't had enough time to put a blu-ray disc on them. The images looked clean and with almost no grain compared to the surrounding led and lcd's. The blacks on them were pretty clean, even though the st30 looked noticeably darker with blacks.

Off the bat they were on vivid, and looked ok (compared to last years penny tvs) when I put the st30 on cinema, the facial tones on people had a slight reddish hue. When I played around with the color temp, and moved it to medium, instead of warm 2 it looked very nice, better than the other tvs it was surrounded by. I even preferred the way it looked to the d8000 Sammy leds.

I am still waiting on the pz950 since I was astounded by the color detail on the pk950 with thx mode on. But the st30 is looking like a good contender to me, and if the pz950 is more than 400 over the st30, I might end up buying the st30.

I'll see if I can when I work next. I have used the conversion, but I can't seem to find glasses to use, since most of our panny glasses are bolted to a lectern in front of the vt20 and 25.

I don't know about a lot of you guys but I love my st30! Im not a videophile but I do appreciate a nice, clean picture! I think a lot of you guys are taking all these numbers quite to seriously. Here are a few pictures of my 50"....

The picture setting used was one of the factory settings: Vivid

And I believe if you know what you're doing (calibrating), it should be A LOT better than above.

** I ran out of battery so I couldn't snap any more pictures from Predators**

thx for the pictures ..

but i have to admit that i see some heavy dithering and some obvious contouring as well ..

i hope thats just related to the vivid mode .. cuz i heard from chad that the picture was not grainy and in fact very clean ..

the close ups of zoes character are quite grainy ..

my apologies if you werent aware ..

i know from my experience with my gt25 that vivid and especially standard are worse with dithering than cinema thx or custom ..

my amazon order has just gone through today finally ..

i should be recieving my st30 42 inch model the first of next week ..

Looks great, but pictures can't really show what you are seeing. Seeing as readings so far are all over the place (D-Nice =.008mll, Chad= .013), how do the blacks look like to you? How do letterbox bars look?

Yes you are correct about that. I sit about 8-10 ft away when watching so it doesn't really bother me. Although I am hoping someone in the know how will post up their calibration numbers. Plus, it may have something to do with the video file I am playing. I think a lot of my HD movies are of lower quality since they're all mostly compressed to around 8-30gigs. I am not sure if that'll cause a significant reduction in video quality but from what I hear, if the compressed video format is around 8gigs and up it should be fine. I'm not sure if there's any truth to this though. I have it hooked up from my computer via dvi - hdmi from my PC.
