I notice on my new ST30 that when the image is rapidly vertically panning, e.g. in Planet Earth when the landscape is filmed from a moving helicopter, the motion as the landscape moves downward toward the bottom edge of the screen doesn't appear to be smooth but instead seems subtly jumpy or jerky. Is there some setting I should be using to smooth this out? The only settings I've modified are D-Nice's calibration recommendations (which are great), everything else should be at default. I'm using a Panasonic BDT-210 Bluray player.

Do you have the motion smoother turned on? I think I read turning it off alleviates that.

Motion smoother is off as per D-Nice's calibration instructions, so that's not the explanation. I haven't tried turning it on, though, is that a possible fix? Any downside to having it on, presumably there's some reason it was recommended to be off?

Anyone seeing rainbow effect on their ST30? Last night when watching Godfather 2 (blu ray) I notice rainbow effect and it was pretty annoying. It was very noticeable during all of De Niro's scene I then checked out Saving Private Ryan (blu ray) and didnt see it. My setting is Dnice post setting. Both movies were running off my Dune base player.

I have a GT30 but I'm experiencing something similar. If you have The Dark Knight can you check the scene where it's panning the buildings at night (pans right to left) in Gotham not Hong Kong. The motion in the lower right side of the screen stutters and is really jerky. At first I thought it was FBr due to the windows in the building but I haven't noticed any FBr in any other movie or games.

I'm afraid I don't have the Dark Knight--just took the plunge on an HDTV and Bluray player for the first time, the only Blurays I own right now are Planet Earth (which is spectacular) and, a bit randomly, How to Train Your Dragon.

I was struggling to come up with the right word to describe the jerky or jumpy motion, stuttering is definitely a good one.

That's too bad, I really wanted to see if it was just my set or not. I'm also using D-Nice's settings for the GT30 with Motion Smother off.

It's motion judder. Panning shots will not be perfect, and it will occur in many movies.

Ah, got it. Newbie question: is there anything that can be done about motion judder, e.g. motion smoother/adjusting frame rates/etc.? Or is this just one of those live-with-it things?
You can try to turn off 24p playback on your blu-ray player. It may help a little, but overall it's something you will have to deal on these sets. Motion smoother looks awful to me so it's not an option I recommend, but you may want to try and see if you like it.
Thanks, this and some googling suggests judder is just something to live with, appreciate the helpful pointers to an AV newbie.

Separately, what genius designer decided to put a highly reflective angled bevel around the display? I don't mind Panasonic's somewhat stodgy design, but that thin, angled reflective strip right next to the screen is odd. But maybe there's some explanation I'm missing and I have no idea whether other TVs are exactly the same.

I looked at a 55" at sears and [ it was on a dish feed] it did not appear to have this. [ It was mounted up on the wall]

If I remember correctly, the hhg source was a dvd player, some different model pannys were on a direct feed.

Is this dithering? can it be corrected, or is 50" to big for a 8 foot distance? [ I don't have a large living room] I'd originally thought about a 46" but seems the general idea here is get as large as you can accomodate, and the 46" ones, now that I look at them just don't seem large enough, lol.

Does the st suffer from the "green glob" issue like gt?

Oh, I should mention, the gt picture did seem a bit darker [ dimmer?]except for vivid mode which was cartoonishly saturated IMO. However, a movie played in thx mode was truly exceptional.

thanks

would appreciate a reply to this,
thanks to whomever does

It's impossible to know what you saw, but it was likely source related. There is no fuzziness with proper settings and a high quality source like a blu-ray.

I sit 9.5' away from a 65" and it can be bigger. 50" at 8 feet will be fine.

First post in the plasma forum. My 60st30 came today and I'm very sad. They brought it in opened it up and this thing was huge and beautiful. They plugged it in and tried to turn it on a loud buzz was coming from the set and it never powered up. So then the power light was blinking 7 times and they took it away. Sad day for me. Amazon is send another and should be here next Friday. Wish me luck.

My 50st30 came a few hours ago from Amazon, just thought I would let you all know it is an April build. I can see this is going to take a whole lot of tweaking,Sd channels on FIOS are not looking that great when you blow them up to 50". I currently have a 42 and they do not look too bad on that.
Also cant connnect on the Wifi to FIOS network router. It picks up the network but will not connect.
Any quick suggestions.
Thanks

When you input the networks password it defaults to all caps, something to check.

I tried some of the settings mentioned here and so far it looks good. Here's a shot of it in the room. The photo's a tad distorted because I['m using a very wide angle lens.

What kind of speakers are you running?

Do they sound as good as they look?

The picture on this tv is gorgeous, but getting major problems like this after 3'ish months is brutal. I'm just glad it didn't happen right when the warranty goes... but of course who knows what will happen in the future.

Ok well... this kind of stinks. I saw the black bar come back after the "main board" was replaced. So, it looks like I might have to get my panel replaced. That entire prospect seems like a can of worms to me.

Is there any possible way that this large black line could be some sort of random interference from a Denon-1611 or Panasonic BDT110 or TimeWarner HD Cable box?

Attached are the original pictures I posted when I saw this problem for the first time on the 65st30.

Has anyone had any HDCP handshake issues with this TV? I've got a 65S1 and I can't get HDCP to work at all on it from multiple sources.

Thinking of selling it and getting the VT30, but want to make damn sure I don't have similar problems...
Still cannot connect p50st30 to wifi, have changed network to WAP from WEP. I do notice that the tv uses caps for the password. Could that be the problem. Anyway to change to lower case, or do I have to go in and reset network passwords again to all caps.
It will connect to someone elses open network.

Does anybody know if the D-nice settings are essentially the same for each size of the ST30 sets? There was mention that the sets don't all have the same black levels, so I was wondering if there are other differences to each size of the sets...particularly the smaller vs larger sets. For instance, the 46ST30 and 60ST30. Does one run the same slides for 100 hours on each set and then use the same settings on each? Just wondering if there are any tweaks for each set.

Looks like a panel replacement to me. Hopefully Panasonic will be more reasonable with you than they have been with me. I've already filed a formal complaint against them with the Better Business Bureau and am still researching what other consumer protection resources are available to me.

Well that was it,had to change network password to all caps.

Well after all that had to run Cat5 anyhow, seems the wifi is too slow to stream AVCHD videos from computer. At least with the cat5 it connected right away.

Agreed, motion smoother sucks. Its something I was really worried about on the plasma's but was quite happy to hear that it was something I could turn off in the settings. It makes it look 'fake' if its on, if you ask me.
Ok, it must be so simple I'm missing it...but for the life of me I cannot find the setting to change the default top and bottom grey bars to black. Odd that is the default with a black bezel TV, but anyway, HOW do I change this. I dislike them when watching a 16:9 HD broadcast.

Thanks

Two Questions...

My TV (ST30 in 55 inch) that is a week since purchase is a March 2011 build. Does this put me at a high risk for problems? Would things like the black bar and lighting variance show up quickly? So far the only lighting difference I notice is if I have say an all white browser up on PC, and switch to a black background, it makes it turn the brightness down if the lighter background. Not something I notice in TV programming YET.

Finally...despite Panasonic advertising 600 Hz drive thing...is it true that regular Plasmas like these are traditional 60HZ TVs? Thank you!

hello all i have 55st30 but am having a weird problem. When my ps3 is turned on and anytime there is white wither in a game or just the ps3 icons, there is random purple pixels in anything white?? Has anyone experienced this? TV problem or hdmi cable problem? Some times it will happen in colors, its only noticeable from very close like less than one foot. its annoying and am always looking for an excuse to get a new tv, ya know?Has anyone noticed this on their tvs? it seems to be happening on the upper third of the tv
