There is a way to enable advanced "Pro settings" on this model? Only UK models have this feature? It is a bit lame if that is true...they couldn't resolve 50hz bug or other things but they restricted menu options from a country to another...

The software on my TV is updated
I'm not a convinced videophile and I don't have the money to be one . I can get pass the 50hz bug, some edge-motion problems, green blob..etc, but I can't get pass these menu(and maybe hardware) inconsistencies from Panasonic.
Don't know what to do, maybe I'll return it. Any advice?

Thanks!

Not sure what it does but did you try True Cinema mode to see what options pop up? You may want to try posting over at avforums since it's a euro site.

What is the Panny equivalent? There is a "Game" setting under picture, but i believe it just a color preset.

Do i need to name the HDMI input specially game or something?

Thanks!

It's in Viera Tools.

Shrimpman--I enjoyed playing the MW3 free weekend, but there were some problems. I did not figure out how to access the server list until the free weekend was over, so just had to get into games with whatever map was loaded. I found later that in 'options' there is a selection to turn on dedicated servers--but only after the free time was over. I am seriously near sighted and do not do well in maps with a long draw distance--a lot of wide open space. But I could not select the maps I wanted. Various issues of balance exist in these games for new players starting at lowest rank, and playing against players with all weapons and perks unlocked. Also, familiarizing yourself with the weapons you do have access to initially takes a bit of time--I only switched to the MP5 as primary at the end and liked it better than the weapons in the other default classes.I rarely buy such games when they first come out because of the price--but buying them when they first release and then starting online right away would be the only way around such issues of balance. So now that I've made all my excuses, my best round was 11 kills and 13 deaths, but my final kill to death ratio was pretty abysmal--think I'll join you in that corner.

The other night in CoD4 playing the 'Killhouse' map I had 50 kills in one round and was second on my team--in that game I am fully levelled up, and have good familiarity with a few select maps--it makes a big difference. Choose the wrong map in CoD4 and i will usually get thrashed. The 'Killhouse' map is very reminiscent of the maps found in Half-Life 2DM, and that helps me there. Other maps I play in CoD4 are 'Crossfire' and 'Shipment' mainly, and 'Crash' and 'Vacant' to a lesser degree. CoD4 still has a ton of busy servers, and many feel it has the best gameplay design for online in the series. I would say in MW2 and MW3 the graphics are a bit better, and also some improved animations with explosions, etc.

Re picture quality I have been very happy with this set--admittedly it is the first decent TV I have ever owned. That is in part because I have never been a fan of TV watching--I bought this set for PC gaming, and online movies. Like you I grew up watching small screen TVs from the early days of TV technology. I still have an old 17" RCA in storage that must be 30 years old--those things are indestructible, and could probably go through a compactor and still work. I am very glad to have the Plasma, but if I had young children would be hesitant unless it was my own private set. I have found it necessary be quite careful on avoiding static images.

I also had the A board replaced as a preventive measure--I have had no Fbr issues. I ran slides and stayed in 'Standard' PM at default for the first 125 hours. For game mode I have brightness fairly low (35--50) and color kind of high (50 and higher) C.A.T.S. off, and Black level to dark for the CoD games. But I also find that I have to tweak the settings for individual games. When I buy MW3 I will watch for you in games--maybe I will send you a PM and let you know what servers I am using. I also have MW2--last night I checked out the multiplayer for the first time. I liked it but again no server list, and the dedicated server option I found in MW3 is not there either. If MW2 has no server list--no dedicated servers--I probably will not play it much. More research needed on that. I liked the maps in there a lot--maybe more than most of the maps in MW3. Graphics I would say were comparable. A lot of people complained about the way kill streaks work in MW2, and found it to be very poorly designed ending up in unbalanced gameplay. I will have to see how it goes on that score with further play. I am watching ebay for a copy of MW3 cheap.

**Just occured to me--I think you are playing MW3 on Xbox? If so we would probably not be able to find each other in game as I believe the PC servers are completely different, and I am playing on PC. BTW--holy crap--$$100K in AV equipment?? I guess I don't have to feel I was extravagant about my humble setup any more. Hey--just add a killer gaming PC to that list--I started building my own rigs 5 years ago. Better graphics, and bigger maps in PC games--and most say mouse and keyboard rule for FPS games. (not wanting to get a PC vs. console war going here--ha ha). A really great learning experience--plus building your own allows full customization, and is much cheaper than the same spec machine (probably 30% or thereabouts) bought from DEll, HP, etc. In some cases they don't even offer the same quality parts in their highest end machines--parts that are easily available to builders--like motherboards for one. It would be fun if game developers could arrange matches of PC players vs. console players. That would probably up the intensity level a notch or two. Do Xbox, Playstation, and other console users share the same servers?

Another issue is the PS3 snow / flicker effect. I had it on HDMI 3 and it was flickering every 10 secs or so, with snow on the screen when in 1080p mode. Switching the HDMI 2 made it worse, constant flicker and half the screen was covered with the snow effect. However switching to HDMI 1 fixed the problem . Its the same 6 foot HDMI cable.

Weird thing is, i put the HTPC running at 1900x1080 in the other inputs (2 & 3 ) and it shows no problems.

I Hope its not the tv. Google search makes it sound like its not unusual, but i haven't seen it mentioned where it works with one input and not the others. Is there anything special in HMD1?

Hello all,

I'm Thinking about buying this set tonight.
Looking for some general comments from current owners.
Recommend or not?
Ive heard there are some issues with dimming errors that are fixable and are not present in models produced after august 2011.

Last minute advice welcome as well.

Thanks,
Matt

If you are in the Los Angeles area and are looking for a 42" I would 100% advise you to not get one.

I've had 3 and all of them had problems and every single Best Buy didn't carry any August or higher builds.

Green blobs, dead pixels, FBr, IR are some of the problems I've been facing on the 42"

I can't really say about the other sizes

Recommend with Caution: We've had 4 60" 2011 panels in our home, and they have ALL had Green & Pink tinting. Between self & No. 1 Son we've owned or checked some 20 panels - most in either 50" or 60" sizes - and ALL have had Green / Pink tinting to SOME extent.

At the same time, both his current 50" set (which is a S30) and our current 60" set (ST30) are fairly recent builds - Nov for our ST, and think Dec for the S - and the tinting seems to have been 'moved' away from mid-tones on both sets: still shows up in certain medium-dark grays / earth tones, but is MUCH less apparent on MOST faces.

IF you can get a good price, AND a good return policy (our sets came from Costco, which means we have 90-days to make a "final" decision...) - and Transportation is not too big of a hassle - it is probably worth the risk of a Bad Set against the hope of finding a Very Good set at a Very Good price....

But I would run it for as many hours as possible during your Return Period, Just In Case. (Slides, Full Screen Animation, or Whatever Full Screen material you are comfortable leaving up all day: ZOOM the set to avoid any station logos, streaming news updates & such. I run slides several hours each day, and leave the set on one of the cartoon stations for the balance of the day: by "Zooming" BOTH our Uverse box AND the TV, all Junk is pushed well off screen!)

Best of Luck!

I must have lucked out in the TV lottery because my ST 30 50" has shown none of the usual problems. There have been a couple of small things that seem to be self correcting--a bit of faint banding on some color slides, and some IR from static images that were on the display very briefly. The banding is 95% gone, and cannot be seen in regular content. The IR that occasionally occurs is removed completely with the scrolling bar. If color was off I believe I would notice that--I am a visual artist, and feel I would notice any glaring anomalies. When in custom mode using D-Nice settings skin tones look dead on to me anyways.

In PC games which I bought this set for the PQ is outstanding IMO--coupled with a high end PC that can max out the settings in newest games it looks really great. So, my experience has been very positive, but that is only one set so not much to base your decision on. I don't recall the build month but it is quite early like february or something. I did have the A-board swapped out early on as a preventive measure. I ordered it online from BandH photo--a reliable outfit I think, although I have never had to return anything to them. Good luck with whatever you decide on.

Well got the 65ST30, the GT30 was an online price only. I got the 3 yrs interest free financing(Art Van). Just got it mounted and started running the Break-in slides. Massive compared to my 52" lcd from 2008.

The value shows that you have the patch preinstalled from the factory. You should have no problem with fluctuating brightness.

OK, thanks, I thought my Sn had to be higher. But glad to hear.

Yes, it was on and so was the other black leveling setting. I turned these features off as well as AGC and punched in some custom settings and everything is all good. I couldn't be happier with this purchase.

Would I be able to use the wireless adapter (N5HBZ0000055) that came with my ST30 for my Panasonic BDT110 Blu-ray disc player? I know the BDT's wireless adapter will not work for the TV...

BTW, had Fbr upgrade today by Panny using SD card due to how it's mounted. Guy was supervisor and says he's only one authorized to it with card as an FYI. Went well I guess as I never had problem. Logged about 120 hours on slides, tv and game play so think I'm ready for D-nice settings. Life is good, thanks to you all. I still suck at COD, MW3. Hopefully there will be a fix for that soon. Oddly find myself watching this more than pj. Now have to update the Denon for 3d. Does this maddness ever end???????

I have been using the break in DVD from the master thread:
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=949107
Are these the same images that are on the download for the thumb drive? I am 24hrs into it, Mine flashes through the colors and each one stays on 30 sec. Not sure if it is same as what D-nice has specified.

Also, anyone point me in the right direction for 3D glasses, I can find them, I just can't believe how expensive they are. Especially when Samsung sells them for under $50. Thanks

Search on Amazon for SainSonic 3D glasses or PS3 3D glasses. Both can be purchased for under $60.

The reason the Panasonic glasses are so insanely expensive is due to the fact that no "legitimate" reseller has them. Who you're left dealing with are the bottom dwelling price gougers who are just trying to maximize their profit.

I was lucky enough to get a pair of the "large" 3rd generation Panasonic glasses from Vann's for $79 per pair just a few weeks ago. I bought the only two they had...

The Sainsonic glasses, as suggested, are good candidates, but just be forewarned that they have a range of only 15 feet. Kinda short IMO...

I have a pair of Xpand 103s that compare pretty well with the 2nd generation Panasonic glasses, but are not as good as the 3rd gens.

Good luck...

Mine works with the 110. The adapter that came with my BDT350 also works with the ST30 and the 110, go figure. I've read that some have had trouble with both. I never tried the ST's adapter with the 350 though.

I haven't been able to get my adapter to work from my 50ST30 in my bdt110.
The 110 needs a proprietary adaptor, and it's pricy.

You're right, I just tried again and it doesn't work in the 110. I was sure I used the ST adapter to download the updates for the ST and the 110 the day I set them up. The adapter that came with the 350 does work with everything. When I hooked up the 350 adapter to the 110 to see if it would work, it must have downloaded the player update then. I thought for sure it was the other one. Sorry for the bad info.

Good to know the 350 adapter will work in the 110, they must have added some protocol that the tv's adapter has.

Are you saying that the SainSonic glasses are better than the Xpand 103's?

How's Panny's 3rd generation glasses better than the 2nd generation one (not that it matters since they aren't available to purchase).

From reviews and reading most think the xpand's are better than the sainsonics and also the panny 3rd generation glasses are available to buy , just do a search For Panasonic TY-EW3D3MU , they are proven to be better than the 2nd gen ones , thinner lens , lighter , more light also passes through the lens. I just ordered a pair so if you do a google search you will see they are out there to purchase , just gotta do a little searching , they are all over eBay and many online stores. And read some reviews from real life people like on amazon , you will clearly see the 3rd gen panny glasses surpass the 2nd gen.
