That sounds exactly like what I am talking about.
When there is motion, it looks like the whole floor is made of moving dots. My wife even said to me "it looks like there are dots everywhere."
I can't say that I saw the that level of it, but maybe I wasn't looking closely enough. At any rate, the main place that it was really irritating me was around the moving players.
Is it possible it is my cable box? The HDMI cable? (It is 5 years old.)
I suppose it could be worse depending on the cable feed. I was considering switching to satellite or something. But it didn't seem to make sense that my older TH42PX80 wasn't exhibiting the same problem. When I was trying to eliminate the same factors, I recorded a bunch of stuff on my PVR, and it looked fine on my TH42PX80 (a very minute amount of contouring that I would never have noticed if I wasn't staring at it from a foot away). When I then hooked up the same PVR (using the same HDMI cable) to my 55ST30 and watched the same recorded programs, there was lots of posterising/contouring that was obvious. And doing the same thing with my PN59D550 results in no posterising/contouring.
Or are there some settings I can look for on the ST55?
I fiddled around with various settings, and nothing seemed to help. Maybe I wasn't trying out the right ones.
I hope that someone else has better news or suggestions for you.
