I guess this set is going back and I will try my luck with another one. Sad really as I don't really want to end up with a tint/blob panel

Not looking forward to carrying big TVs back and forth.

However, there's on thing I did not foresee on the installation. I've got it mounted on my wall, with a Chief mount. Yes, it's pretty close to the wall and the cables (HDMI, RCA for the Wii, and Cable) had to be bent a bit. It's not been an issue so far.

To remedy this, I got 5 RCA 90º elbow connectors for my Wii (yes, it's hooked to the Component jacks). Also for the coaxial cable.

However, for the 2 HDMI connectors if I get a regular 90º elbow connector, pointing down, the HDMI cable will "land" over the RCA/Component connectors and it will not fit. Now I've seen some folks use the HDMI connector that's located on the left side of the TV by using 2 elbow connectors, but I need to use the one in the back, the on with the ARC.

This TV is set on a brick-and-mortar wall, so I cannot reroute the incoming cables (they come straight down from the credenza).

I would really welcome your suggestions.

Thanks!

---Now that I think about it, would I be able to connect the gaming console (Wii) to the A/V receiver, instead of the TV and use only the HDMI at the back? I haven't bought the receiver YET ---

Here's an image of what I mean...

Take a look at the 5133 and 7702 swivel hdmi adaptors about 2/3 down the page.

Sorry to hear. That's why I kept mine. The lines go away in a few minutes, sometimes they don 't show up at all.

Thanks. I hope you're right. I'm back to `babying` the tv, so only full screen movies and no logos. I haven't tried static snow yet because I cant get it to work. It switches to an all black screen instead. Also, havent tried unplugging for 24 hours since I cant easily reach the plug due to the way its hung. I wonder if shutting the entire circuit down would have the same effect.

Try the Disney WOW blu-ray. It has a pixel flipper that is meant to fight off image retention. It's a nice disc to have.

Hey guys, first off thanks in advance for any help I could get. I bought a 55 st30 about a month ago. It was fine, and as soon as I got the WOW disc to calibrate it, I started noticing this yellowish green pattern on the side of the screen. I only notice it on the home screen of my ps3 (gray white background). Any thought of what it could be? I'm going to try to upload a video later of the issue.

One thing to try, turn off your ps3. Turn it on, but hold on to the power button until you hear a beep. This resets your hdmi settings. I had a problem wih my PS3 and this cleared it up. Also, in your PS3 settings, make sure you have pure color turned off.

This post may sound odd (an unwanted) in this thread, but I very recently acquired a strong desire to own one of the Mitsubishi 738 series DLP sets...the WD-73738 to be exact. I felt like I did a ton of research before purchasing my ST30, and read nothing but positive reviews about how great the picture was. While I do agree and have been very happy with it, I overlooked one important (and probably most simple) thing - the fact that DLP delivers that "home theater" experience by offering a larger screen, and DLP technology just like at the theaters. To say the least, I am very upset now that I did not allow this thought to cross my mind before making my purchase.

Anyway, I was wondering if I can get any insight on what to do with my ST30. I purchased it from hhgregg about 6 months ago. I still have the receipts and paperwork and everything for it, as well as 2 pairs of the 3rd generation Panasonic 3D glasses (one of which have never been used). Does hhgregg or any other electronics chain have some sort of "trade back in" program? If not, anyone care to lend their suggestions? I listed the TV on Craigslist, but was just curious about other possibilities...

Trade in programs will almost always net you much less than selling it used.

BTW, nothing wrong with wanting a bigger set, but if anyone sold you on home TV rear screen DLP resembling movie theater front screen DLP projectors in terms of picture quality experience they steered you wrong. Just because they are both based on DLP doesn't mean they have much in common. If you really want that experience you should get a true DLP projector. Though you would have to pay a lot more for one that really starts to emulate the experience well in terms of light output etc. and if you are now committed to rear screen tech specifically because you feel 65" is too small and not home theater enough for you, why only upgrade to a 73"? Why not 92" for instance? A DLP rear screen set will not look more film-like than a calibrated plasma and 7" is not a paradyme shift in size experience.

Thanks for your input.

I definitely understand that a rear projection DLP TV will not be "just like going to the movies." When I mentioned that comparison, I was referring more to the fact that the screen will be bigger, and more "like" the screen at the movies. Hard to explain over the internet, but I guess I am trying to say that when I go to the theater, the screen doesn't look glossy like a piece of glass, which my ST30 screen does. At the same time, the picture at the theater is "softer" than my plasma screen, and I understand that the softness is a characteristic of all DLP.

As far as size goes - my ST30 is a 50" not a 65"...so the 23" of difference WOULD be a "paradyme shift" in size experience...

I had a mitsu DLP which I liked but I missed having the plasma picture. I went from a 42" plasma to a 57"DLP so the size difference was great but just cause it was DLP it never really felt like a theater experience and the soft picture was not something I liked. Now I have a 60ST30 that is better in every way to me. If you do want that theater experience then I also say get a front projector. Even though the rear projector will be large it doesn't really have the same feel, to me it didn't anyway. As for your ST30 if you cant afford to keep it, say in a different room, then hopefully someone will bite craigslist.

Thanks for sharing your experience.

One other thing I forgot to include is that in reality, I don't expect to get a projector anytime soon (within the next 5 years). The room being used is just too small (11.5' x 12.5'), there would be no place to put it, and I would not be ready to spend the money on a good projector and screen (only want to have to buy once) anytime relatively soon. Because of all that, I was thinking that a 73" DLP would be a nice substitue.

i think i got the dreaded burn in problem with my p60st30 plasma. i bought it july 2011 from amazon.com.

i did the dnice slides and made sure not to watch any programs with logos like starz and watched full screen (no bars) for at least 2 weeks when i first got the plasma.

beware of using youtube on the tv.

about a month ago i got a router and used the tv dongle and connected wifi. so i started using youtube on the tv.

a couple of days ago i noticed very faint lines, bars, even words but couldnt tell what it was. today i was actually able to see the word youtube at the top of the screen. the more i looked i even saw the left arrow at the left side of the screen.

please tell me the warranty covers burn in. if it does do i call amazon or panasonic?

damn it, everything was going so well

Thanks for the advice. I did as you said and it still appears there. If it doesn't go away, I will exchange the set.

is burn in permanent or temporary? got the burn in today after around 9 months. id rather keep the tv instead of going through the whole process of getting it fixed or replaced and breaking it in again.
Does anyone else notice false contouring on mid and high panel? I've gotten to where i pretty much have to use Cinema mode, because the false contouring I see with custom drives me crazy.

Burn in is permanent, though you likely only have image retention. Image retention can take months to go away. There is too much to explain on this issue and you can find out more on this forum by using the search feature. No one will replace your TV unless you specifically bought a warranty that covered image retention, or if you are still within a return period.

I will tell you that what you are seeing is very common with the PS3 background, as many of us have seen the tint/blob problem on that very same background on the PS3. At this point, I don't trust that background at all. My tv looks fantastic when viewing content and if I have any tint/blob problem at all, it is so faint that it doesn't show up when watching any content anymore.

I would keep the tv, and switch the background color on PS3.

There is a scrolling bar tool somewhere in the menu that may help with your image retention. I don't remember where it is but it should be in your manual.

My perspective:

I used to be a fan of RPTVs as the best bang for the buck, and that may still be the case, but nowadays I think it's harder to make a case for RPTV unless you are looking at the 80-90 inch range and don't want to deal with a projector. I had a WD-73640 for about a month. It wasn't a bad TV for the money, but it did have some geometry and uniformity issues that bugged me, in part because the build quality of the screen/enclosure very was poor. I don't think the 7xx series is much better. The 8xx series does have better build quality.

I sold the 73640 and bought a 60ST30. (I came out about even on cost.) Picture quality and build quality are definitely superior on the plasma. The DLP was bigger and brighter and consumed less power, but personally I'm still happier with the plasma. I don't really miss the size difference. Quality vs quantity. I was also able to find furniture that fit the 60" TV much easier than the 73", so keep that in mind if you care about what your TV sits on/in.

No TV technology is perfect, so pick your poison and just enjoy it. Since you already have an ST30, I'd suggest keeping for now and waiting to see what comes available in larger screen sizes over the next few years. Or you might be able to find an end-of-year deal on the 60ST30 which would give you another 10 inches and shouldn't cost you too much to upgrade. Costco recently had some limited stock of ST30's at a good price.

I saw the 92" Mits DLP the other day with a Pixar Blu-ray playing at Paul's TV and the resolution and detail just outright sucks. Sure, it was not pro calibrated, but it was evident it was just a limitation of the set (I have some experience with DLPs in general) as not much can be done to improve natural sharpness and lack of contrast. DLPs may have been decent sets for the time five or six years ago, but the ST30 is far better - no comparison at all. The same goes for the SXRD which my ST30 replaced.

i got my 60 using wifi. why wont it let me check if theres a software update? its grayed out and wont let me select software update

I saw the 92" Mits DLP at HH Gregg, and the picture was stunning. Very sharp and bright, with lots of pop. The 3D is also amazing. No ghosting problems like plasmas and LCDs, and you can't beat the size for immersion into a movie, 3D or otherwise. Maybe the set you saw was hooked up differently or something.

This is my situation exactly. My room is only 11.5' x 12.5' though, so I think the 73" will suffice.

Hopefully someone who mainly cares about PQ will buy one of the newer Mitsubishis and be disappointed...and then contact me about a trade

I uploaded a video of the green pixelation. This was taken when it first happened, since then it has spread out about five inches. I still have two days to return the set. Sucks since I really liked this tv.

Sorry to see that - definitely a bummer. Sadly, return it I think you must do. If it's any consolation, I returned mine for lesser reasons than that.

Run the network test (or something similar - 1st or second option) mine was the same. Once it knows for sure your network is active/working it will ungrey.

Got a deal for you guys that my friend offered me:

An Onkyo HT-S5400 7.1 HTiB with 14 ga CL2 wire/ metal stands and wall mounts and a 60" ST30 for a grand. Only thing is the ST30 has "encore" burned into the bottom right hand corner, viewable on some content, not on all. Shows up on green, gray, and white slides...TV only has 300 hours on it.

Would you take it?
