Modest HTPC build plan

Long story short, I've been using a Fry's special PC for HTPC duty.
It's an Intel E4300 clocked to 2.93GHz with an nForce 7030 ECS mobo.
I've been planning to redo it properly for a while and I figure that the new Sandy bridge platform would be a good candidate for my modest HTPC build.

Would like to hear your opinions on your favorite CPU/mobo/RAM and why.

I'm eyeing on i5 2400S or 2500, Asus H67 and 4GB DDR3

I've been buying some stuff as of late to get this build ready.
Just waiting for the last parts: mobo, cpu & RAM.

new parts in house:
CPU cooler: Scythe Big Shuriken
Storage: OCZ Agility 2 60GB
PSU: Seasonic X-400
Case: Grandia GD04B

recycled parts from old HTPC:
LG SATA DVD-Writer
X-Fi Extreme
ATI 3450

The sound and GPU are a bit old, so it might be a good idea to replace them as well. Considering ATI 5750 and one of the Asus Xonar.

I've been out of loop for a while, so this plan may sound too conventional.
e.g.: I don't know if the H67 mobo is good enough, that I won't be needing the 5750 & Xonar cards.

Thanks in advance!

EDIT: A/V Receiver is Pioneer Elite SC-01TX
It'd be really nice to have one HDMI cable carrying everything from the HTPC into the AVR.
My old HTPC has to connect directly to the TV via DVI and the sound is routed to AVR via toslink.

No need for any graphics or sound cards. Just get an H67 motherboard and it will do it all over hdmi. Full bluy ray video and audio.

Unless your using it for other tasks most agree the i3 2100 is plenty for an htpc. Not sure you'll need a quad, just more power and heat.

At the very earliest. CeBit was recently and there were a few prototype boards.

The question is that if you wait that long will you buy a Z68 board or wait for Ivy Bridge?

There is always something better just around the corner. Always.

Yah I agree. I would like to return my p67 Asus Evo and get a Z68 to try out quick sync. But I don't think I can wait that long with no board in my main rig.

True to that.

I wouldn't be surprised if Z68 is late from that bug fix detour
Ivy Bridge is so far out, probably not going to be LGA1155 as well

BTW, this HTPC is not going to be playing any BD since I've a PS3 for that.
It's only for playing music & (foreign) movies using MPC-HC (CCCP codec).

You should take a serious look at zacate then.

Completed the build, but wish I didn't bother to start..

It failed royally. I didn't gain anything from the last machine, in terms of speed or convenience.
Built in audio blows big time, couldn't give me anything more than 2 channel so I finally gave up and reinstalled my XFi card. With XFi, it just works. Boo intel HD audio and Realtek HD audio ...
As for graphics, it's slower than my previous GPU and colorwise, not very correct. I've yet to recalibrate the gamma/color tho..
Boo Overhyped Sandybridge CPU and iGPU.

Too add insult to injury, i think I'll buy a 5770 and Xonar cards, just so I can justify this build (is better than the old htpc)
