Is it just imagination or all electronic price just jumped after what happened in china? I happen to notice hard drive cost nearly doubled compared to last summer and this tv is going for like $1700+ in amazon instead of $1300-$1400 price tag I used to see(un46d8000). Does this mean, it will stay this way for a long time or just temporary?

Hi, shin777,

Hard Drive prices are up because there were major floods in the area of Thailand where most of the drives are made.

If I could predict the trajectory over time for, or the duration, I'd be rich ...

BTW, price talk is against Forum rules.

Hope this helps.

I'm tempted to run one of these tests but scared that I may become like tempest lol j/k

I would ask which fw everyone is on but since this is a 7900/8000 merge thread, I guess the responses would be all over the place. I'm running 1021. Just updated today from 1019.

Here are the pics I just took of mine, not quite night time yet, but I think it looks good.

Once again I see little to nothing on my screen. I guess I got lucky, I took a picture of my backlight to show that I did not have it in "torch mode" when I took the pics.

There's a window to the right to the tv, the sun must of been out on the first pic.

UggH I know I have flashlighting during certain dark scenes. It all depends what's going on within the movie. I just don't think given the tech we're dealing with, if an exchange is warranted. It's not something that is irritating me to no end. The 2 XBR6's I had a few years ago were ridiculous with clouding & flashlighting. I would compare this set to my previous Sammy LN52A850. Maybe I'll run the tests this weekend.

I have a question...sync delay with voice during 3D would be fixed through my receiver, correct? That is driving me bonkers to be honest. lol

Wondering if the slide is the problem.

BUT like I say you would have to really fixate something chronic on the flaws of this tv to get worked up over it.

I also tried the grey picture and I have bands, no bright spots, nothing. Its one clean sheet of grey.

I love this tv.

Seeming you do not own a D8000, as you mentioned earlier in the post, I am wondering perhaps if the word Sociopath means anything.

The whole emotional connection to inaminate objects reference is a major flag. Because sociopaths do not understand emotion like normal people. (of course, its just a tv, not an emotional attachment)

Also, getting people to bend to your will, through doing things, like slides, is the ego side of Sociopathical behavior.

Like flashlighting, maybe this tv is bringing these flaws out in some

Wonder who this could be.....

Yes, on receiver or blu-ray player...I'm running from 90-120ms audio delay on my Blu-ray player. I had it set on the receiver but this was a universal setting on all the inputs to the receiver which I did not want.

edit...auto lipsync did not work for me

Looks good to me, but I'm not really all that confident in those slides. I never got around to testing them on my own set, so it was a best guess.

Have you observed any flashlighting? If so, that kind of proves that my flashlighting test slide is worthless .

Touché. On the other hand, it has been shown to work on other sets, has it not?? Even on the guy who posted earlier, you could see the slides showing the imperfections. I know none of these panels are perfect, or any edge lit LED for that matter. I do think mine is pretty solid.

Hi, TIME2PLAYDAGAME,

I'm not sure what you are asking here, but if you are wondering if someone has a copy of the 1019 Firmware so you can revert back from 1021 Firmware the answer is you cannot revert to a previous version.

Hope this helps.

Just purchased a UN55D8000 and having some issues.

1. First the wifi performance is abysmal. Netflix is unplayable, and majority of the applications just plain don't work. I reset SmartHub and that seems to have cleared up the app starting issue but you just can't stream anything to this TV. The PS3 sitting right next to it is just happy as a clam streaming netflix.

2. On my time warner cable connection, I see a lot of judder. It's very noticeable. Even just panning from actor to actor produces noticable judder on HD content.

This is a Sammy with the firmware updates (001024). H303 panel since that question gets asked a lot on this forum. I don't know enough to mess with the picture settings so all configuration is stock.

Any advice?

Check your Internet connection, I have never had a problem with streaming Netflix. As far as the time Warner issue, tough to say.

Possibly go to the programming section and see what they have to say about it.

There are a couple good options that at least get you started with your picture calibration. Tempest had a good one, as does mkanet. Check the thread, they are listed in here.

Really? Then things must've really changed over the last 3yrs. I was able to roll back to an earlier fw on my Samsung LN52A850.

I've now noticed some clouding during dark scenes after this fw update. It's terrible that they try to fix one thing then mess up another with these updates *SMH*
I may be returning the TV this weekend. I refuse to live with this TV like this for the next few yrs.
Ok this is definitely something I'm going to keep my eyes on now. I came home for lunch and watch different programs on FiOS and did NOT see the clouding I saw last night after the fw update. HmmmM
Anyways, I spoke to my friend about it and he said to return it if I'm not happy. It hasn't even been a week, so I think I'll take a wait and see approach.

As far as the minor flashlighting(during certain scenes)..That is something that is inevitable with edge-lit LCD/LED tech, regardless if people see it or not. I have it on my 32" edge-it LED Samsung in my bedroom. I also have it on my 22" edge-lit LED ViewSonic PC monitor.

Service Techs are out now and almost finished replacing the panel. Keeping my fingers crossed that this will look better. I'm not expecting perfection, but definitely better than what I had.

They just fired it up with the new panel and it looks 100% better! I will definitely start running some tests and take pics. Hopefully turning it on for the first few minutes wasn't a fluke.

Is it just imagination or recent 3d movie's 3d effect just sux? For example, 2008 or before 3d movies like journey 3d, open season etc have amazing depth and looks really like 3d but all recent movies namely 2011 ones like transformer 3, green lanturn, captain america, thor etc don't look like 3d 99% of time. They simply don't have enough depth and look like just darkened up 2d movies on my un46d8000 or my 3d monitor. Why are film developers even call this 2d movies 3d? They are just abandoning 3d technology and eliminating all jaw dropping effect that earlier 3d movies had. I feel like I am owning 3d set for nothing coz 3d effect in these movies are very minimal and it's perfectly viewable even without 3d glasses coz they have no image seperation that creates depth. It's not tv 3d broken but movies are broken. I've been wondering why 3d looks so horrible on my set but it was just movies that sux. Journey and open season looks absolutely stunning on 3d on this set while all recent 3d movies look like crap.
So my initial impressions after 4-5 hours of use are positive. The screen uniformity and light bleeding through is so much better than what I had before. Also, the 3D is much improved over last panel and has very minimal ghosting and crosstalk. I have to say, this is probably as good as the 65" model can look, Im still not sure if the best it is has to offer, is good enough. There is still some light bleeding through and it's distracting sometimes. I could probably live with it if I didnt know the ES Series is literally right around the corner. I have another week before my 30 days runs out with Amazon. If I knew for sure when the 65" ES will be released, it would make this decision easier. If it was coming out at least by the end of April, I would send this TV back in a heartbeat. But not knowing how long it might be, I would hate to be without a nice tv in my mancave for a few months. Still undecided at this point. Im sure after a few more days of tweaking and watching, I'll be able to make a definitive answer.

Sorry to hear about your 3d experience. I have to disagree with you somewhat. I thought transformers 3 looked amazing in 3d. Maybe the best yet. But, at the same time, ive never watched Open Season or Journey 3D. Have you watched Puss in Boots or Hugo 3D yet? Both of those look stunning in 3D, especially Hugo. Give one of those a shot if you can and see what you think.
transformer 3 looked decent at theatre 3d but not on bluray 3d.
I saw hugo 3d too but it sux. I don't have puss in the boot 3d yet so I will give that a shot. Really.. watch open season(2006), journey 3d(2008). That will make thor, captain america, green lanturn, transformer 3 look like 2d movies. Even harold and kumar 3d looked 10x better than those 4 movies I listed on bluray 3d.

Wow. I really am surprised to hear you say that you didnt care for Hugo or Transformers in blu-ray 3D. I would suggest you give Puss in Boots and the newest Final Destination in 3D. I was shocked at how much Final Destination popped. I think that the newer 3d blu-rays are going more towards retaining the same color and clarify of 2d blu-ray while adding depth, not so much making it POP off the screen as we would like. I would also recommend Avatar 3D if u can get a hold of a copy.

I've only watched a few 3D movies, but I have to agree from what I've seen thus far. The only 2 that stood out to me are Legend of The Guardians & Resident Evil. I'm going to pick a couple more up today while I check out that new LG set. How is Alice in Wonderland 3D?

Alice in Wonderland was actually pretty decent. I hate when 3D movies don't take up the whole screen and Alice does. The 3D doesn't pop out all the time but when it does, it looks good. I've heard good stuff about Legend of the Guardians. I'll rent that and see how it compares to Puss in Boots and Kung fu Panda 2.

You will not be disappointed with KFP2, it shines on this set :-)

Alice in Wonderland is probably one of my favorites. I think Puss in Boots was average at best. The 3d in Alice you can tell they really put a lot of effort into making it look good.
I didn't like Puss in Boots in general, so I doubt I'll get the 3D. I had read some good things about Alice in Wonderland. A few reviews said the transition to 3D BD was excellent.
*EDIT* I may be forced to check out Beauty & The Beast also, my girl has been buggin me about that since I picked up the TV lol
