They say these stupid updates will "improve" or "add" functionality to the tv, but that's not true, in fact, they mess your tv once the warranty is over, and you need to pay the service. I also have a samsung tv, and firmware updates just ruined picture quality. These updates also messed 2 sony blu ray players, that after taking the update won't read some of my BD discs. So my advice is, don't update your devices, and if it notifies the update, cancel it and deactivate those notifications.

I'm sorry but your post is very rediculous....Do you really think these company's would take to time/resources and $$ to actually brick their tv's? Yes, there have been firmware updates that did more harm then good but overall updates are there for a reason....Thonk about computers/bios, etc...

There may be some truth to this.. Here's why, my D8000 was great until they did that Smart Hub update last month. After that update, my D has had artifacts all over the screen.

Then on my brand new 65" ES8000, the picture was amazing, then this morning they pushed out a new FW and now the picture looks worse and I'm getting the same artifacts on this one now as my D series.

Something is up with these updates. He may be right. Who knows. I have had FW updates that really helped the picture though so I don't get it.
I spoke to a Samsung tech and he told me if I'm happy with everything as far as my TV then NEVER install the new firmware. The updates are for specific problems and are stated in the firmware notes.
"If it ain't broke, then don't fix it".
I had similar display issues with my 55D8000, had the two main boards replaced and saw perfection.....(well as perfect as video could be w/out calibration), got the most recent FW updates and pic remained stable with NO detrimental changes.

Set was purchased new in May.

Need some help, I have already had my main board and now my panel replaced but my problem still exists. If you notice the picture, I have what looks like a ladder in the back light. There are different shades going horizontal and vertically. Its not that noticeable but once you see you can't unsee... I want to call samsung back but I don't even know what this problem is called? Is this normal?

This is banding. Depending on who you talk to at Samsung, they may call this "in spec." Some panels have it, some panels do not. Your only option is to have them switch out the panel in the hope of getting a better one.

It is most noticeable during sports or scenes with horizontal panning. I Agree, once you notice it, it drives you nuts.
They already swapped out the panel... problem still exists. Should I have just keep harassing them until I get a good panel?
Call them back, as long as you can get them to admit that this is a problem, you will be in business. Since you have had your panel replaced once already, you will qualify for a set replacement. This likely means an "upgrade" to the ES8000.

That looks pretty bad. You seemed to already went through the repair process which means they should be replacing it. Get in touch with the E.C.R. Dept and keep us posted on what they are doing. I have enough consumers now on a social site who have had these models and the new ES series fail very soon and need repair after repair to start a Class Action Lawsuit. Try and get them to replace it, and let me know what happens.

Good luck

Just called support, the manager was not on duty. So the low quality support tech issued yet another panel to be installed. She told me she did not have access to the internet/email or even support site to see the pic I uploaded. The only thing she could do was dispatch a tech with a new panel... To add to this mess, I had the panel replaced this week and the week prior I had the same tech fixing a main board due to it not powering up. I did ask that the manager on duty call me back to escalate this when they get back. This is not acceptable and I won't settle on this TV. They will replace it, even if that requires me bitching daily.
unusual that they already replaced the board and the panel, and want to do another panel swap. Sorry you are getting the run around, Samsung support will eventually come through, try to talk to someone higher up in Executive Support on Monday.
Sorry to hear about this, Your not alone though. I just sent you a PM with some info.
I just called again and asked to speak with a supervisor. After some time he came back and told me he was escalating it to the executive level to confirm my swap. Hopefully all goes well, thanks for your help with all this guys!

That's what these threads are for! Good luck and keep us posted smile.gif

This is Exactly what I'm dealing with (D6900)...Unfortunately my plan is to keep trying until I get an Acceptable Panel (H303, I think).
FWIW, the tech that replaced my D8000 panel (I had an H302), said that they would always send out that version as it correlates to the board which have subtle differences, and that there would be incompatibilities if they did not do it that way. No idea if that is true, but just a heads up if you are hoping to go from a 301/302 to a 303.

Samsung has some major competition coming.. Can't wait! They will be forced to make better more reliable and affordable TVs once the Chinese comes to the US with their very sleek TVs. Another reason why Samsung will be adding the Google TV platform to their 2013 models. The Evo kit will probably include Google TV as well and a possible quad core processor for the 2012 models.

Hisense? Really? Do you think these guys are really going to give Samsung a run for their money? Now I am in no way a fan of Samsung but I doubt Samung is going to have sleepless nights because of a company called Hisense making HDTV's.

Just sayin

They won't have sleepless nights, but they will have to lower their prices for sure. It's just good that there will be more competition for them come next year. Look at their design, they look just like Samsung's. if there 55" is selling for $1,300 and Samsungs 55" is selling for $2,500 and they both have similar picture quality, don't you think the average consumer is going to pay the $1,300? Especially in this economy?
What about the quality difference guys?
From what I hear, This company is China's top of the line in China. All we can hope is that the picture either matches or exceeds Samsungs picture. Just trying to bring this thread back to life! It's been dead for months now smile.gif

in the world of rip off products, china is the king. they will spit these out like candy and end up on Walmart shelves all over the US.

I agree i am starting to get annoyed with Samsung LEDs, they're just too good with their marketing campaign but in reality the product is not as what we had expected. In fact i had another Samsung 42" LED TV too when kaput due to power board problem cost me $200 bucks to repair it.

Hisense models look similar like Samsung, maybe its worth a try...

To sum it up, after going back and forth with ECR. Samsung tells me this is a preference choice and there is nothing they can do... Does anyone have a d8000 and not have the banding?

What does, it is a preference choice, mean? Some people prefer banding?

Nobody would want a screen defect on a device designed to display images on a screen.

Samsung should fix any of their HDTVs suffering from banding.
I don't have any banding on my d8000.
This is just another one out of the millions, that they are taking advantage of. You should not have to settle with your set looking like this. They know its a defect but won't admit to it. This is why I'm in a huge battle with them right now. Just make sure you document everything. Names, and times , etc..

The repair shop told me that they talked to samsung about my tv and that this is typical in edge lit lcds. That I chose this tv and its a preference. I was irate, this was HDREPAIR.COM that did the repair and told samsung this. Also when I talked to this company the day before they told me that they were going to recommend to samsung that they upgrade my tv. I found this because my ticket was canceled today, I called up to samsung and this is what they told me.

To make matters a little better, I called back up to ECR at samsung. Got a new rep, before I talked to her about my issue. I made her look at the picture of my TV. She said she couldn't say if anything was wrong because she was not technical. But I could tell that she knew. She setup an appt with another TV repair service to come out and replace the panel again (Not HDREPAIR.COM). She said she can't swap my TV out until it is deemed unrepairable. I will make the tech swap the panel and then ask him to update the ticket deeming it unrepairable. Then I should be able to get my swap. I am pissed, probably the last time I buy samsung. Way too much hassle, this was about 1 1/2 of phone calls today to get through this.

Trust me, I know! This is why there needs to be another class action filed. They seem to respond only when someone takes them to court. This is what I'm in the process of doing so others like yourself, wont have to go through this much hassle and stress. Its just unacceptable!

Have you read this article yet? As you see, there are still many others with the newer 3D models having issues. Something will be done about it.. I promise!!
