Which 3D Blu-ray's Also Include the 2D Version on the Same Disc

Occasionally, I have the opportunity to purchase a 3D Blu-ray for a good price from eBay or other sources. Sometimes it is an opportunity to purchase just the movie without any extras. I only have one 3D HDTV and one 3D Blu-ray Player at my house. However, all of our other HDTV's have a non 3D Blu-ray Player hooked up to the HDTV. Therefore, I like to play my 3D movies in 2D on the other HDTVs. I know that some 3D Blu-rays include a separate disc of the 3D Blu-ray while others include the 2D version on the same disc. I would like to compile a list of whether or not a 2D version of the movie is included and if it is then how. I would also like to differentiate between different versions of the same movie as well as imports. All of the reviews of 3D movies I have found do not mention if a 2D version is also included.

Example:

Alice in Wonderland (retail): 3D Blu-ray + 2D Blu-ray + DVD + Digital Copy / 5.1 DTS-HD
Alice in Wonderland (Sony Exclusive) ???? I can not find any information how this movie was done. Was the 2D version on the same disc or was it separate?

Avatar (Panasonic Exclusive) 3D + 2D Blu-ray on the same disc / 5.1 DTS-HD

Any help from those who have first hand knowledge regarding all of the 3D Blu-ray's available would be great. For imports we will also need to know what languages are present and if the title is region coded. If I loaned my single disc copy of Avatar to a friend then he could watch it on his 2D Blu-ray Disc Player. I hope to start a master list of this information for everyone to use and enjoy. Thanks.

What a wierd coincidence! I came on here to ask another version of essentially the same question. I do not have a 3-D TV or Blu-ray player now, but I assume that I will have one at some point in the (near?) future. I read the spec. sheet on Blu-ray 3-D and know that they CAN include a 2-D version of the movie, but I also want to know IF they do. I would like to buy the 3-D versions of some movies to start building up a collection for future 3-D use, but only if I can watch them on my current 2-D Blu-ray system now.

Coraline, Christmas Carol, Under the Sea, and Deep Sea and Despicable Me come with separate discs for 3D, and Blu
Shrek movies and Bolt I am pretty sure have 2D version on same disc

Despicable Me includes a separate 2D encode on the 3D disc in addition to the separate 2D disc in the package.

If I understand you correctly then the 3D version disc of Despicable Me will play in any Blu-ray Player because it has a 2D encode on the same disc.

Also, if you use a HTPC, you can view the 2D version on all 3D BD discs.

Some blu-rays only have the 3D version on the disc. The current version being sold of Alice in Wonderland in 3D Blu-ray is an example of this. I am unsure regarding the Sony exclusive version of the 3D Blu-ray. One disc only has the 3D version of movie on the blu-ray disc. The 2D version is included on a separate blu-ray disc.

There is a single encode on the disc using AVC-MVC. If encoded, you can extract a 2D version from the encode.

I agree, they should allow the encode to extracted and used by any player.

I'm pretty sure all the IMAX titles includes 2D-version on the 3D-releases.
