the idea that the country at large (not the people frequenting this forum) is ready for a gaming machine that's projecting images on the walls (and plural, at that) as an integral part of gameplay is laughable to me. No way Microsoft or Sony take that kind of risk.

Agreed, some of the claims made in that article are simply laughable such as the idea that the PS4 will use VR headsets with transparent OLED screens or that the next Xbox will project 360 degree images onto nearby walls. It looks to me like the dual pixels website must be desperate for web traffic (or more specifically advertising revenue).

Not necessarily. It's always been rumored Turn 10 would take over the PGR franchise and there are a few PGR vets on the team so it's always possible. I'm not sure though Sony really has a desire to do another Wipeout. Studio Liverpool being shuttered doesn't mean they couldn't; just likely they won't. Personally I'm kinda burned out on the Wipeout franchise. It peaked at XL for me and I'd like them to try something different. Same with PGR. It peaked at 2 and I'm not sure what another one would accomplish. Forza Horizon is a fantastic racer and fills that not-quite-a-sim role for me. I'd like to see the Horizon game become a series and set sequels in other states or countries. Open it up a bit and allow true off-road. Take a bit of a cue from TDU2. It really is a fantastic game and I'd like to see how they could open it up with a new system with more power and flexibility.

You kinda proved my point. With Forza Horizon, there's absolutely no reason to bother with PGR any more. It was never a runaway hit series anyway. The Forza brand has a lot more muscle behind it than PGR ever did. Though I'm not sure how Horizon did sales-wise. As for the WipeOut series, I'm bummed that Studio Liverpool is gone. Those late-90s futuristic racer franchises had all long since died out, but WipeOut had been going strong well past the others. RIP.

In any event, listing both a PGR game and a WipeOut game in two separate rumors makes me think that these rumors are all bogus. That's not to say some things won't turn out to be true. A stopped watch is still right twice a day...

smile.gif Considering that many of the former Bizarre Creations staff moved over to working on Forza Horizon after Bizarre shut down, Forza Horizon is essentially a spiritual successor to PGR. Just under a different name.

Loved the PGR series. It just never caught on the way that other racing series have. Hopefully it will gain more traction as "Forza Horizon" instead.

Back on topic: MS knows it already has the former Bizarre racing development folks on its Forza brand now. There's no reason for them to bother with PGR, hence that rumor is bunk.

Yea, I think PGR as a brand is pretty much dead.

I don't think Forza Horizon is much like PGR, and I don't think it is as good either. But I think it is obvious that MS will develop Horizon as the more arcade-ish complement to Forza.

This article is a little older. But I read somewhere recently that the new controller may also be able to dock with a Windows 8 Phone and Surface. And may be offered only as an optional accessory.

I'm not really interested in microsoft's ecosystem, and it doesn't seem like most people are either - if they're going to try to leverage the xbox and limit features to windows 8, phone, etc whatever....then they're going to fail pretty hard.

Especially if you consider the ways these "pillars" of the new ecosystem have already failed (and continue to fail) in the marketplace. It would be a mistake to make the new Xbox a part of that.

Using mobile chips just means they will use little power and run cooler. For consoles they don't need top of the line desktop parts to out perform a desktop equivilent.

It does make the 1.6ghz cpu for the 720 rumor make even more sense though.

A 8800m with a quad core mobile cpu would be pretty powerful for a console.

Depends on what they clock it at. A console can have a higher power draw than a laptop and can handle a higher heat output. This should lead to a higher clock speed than you usually see in a laptop.

Windows phone will probably never get off the ground. There's nothing about windows 8 that interests me as a desktop user, and Id much rather have an iPad than a windows tablet.

Yeah I can see your side of it. I'm interested and invested in the MS ecosystem though so maybe that's coloring my opinion somewhat. Still, I think they can integrate their whole product line and make it work. I do agree that the dashboard has been turned into the storefront. There's no two ways around it. Yes it's still easy to go see what you need to see or do but yeah aside from what's actually labelled as a advertisement just about everything is in one form or fashion. I still like the layout better than PSN but all these platforms are getting to the point where their UI is a hindrance to the game playing aspect (what the system should be about in the first place).

Yeah, you are correct in that regard. Horizon is essentially the spiritual successor to PGR. That's not really a bad thing. I could probably go for less of the "festival in your face" attitude the game has but it's at least consistent with the design philosophy and makes for good on screen eye candy (lights in the distance, feeling of "being there", etc.).

to me, I'll use every ecosystem to its fullest. I'm not so ingrained in my ways that I don't try things outs. Even though I have Dropbox, I still use Skydrive. Even though I love Google, there's the occasional need for Bing (sometimes I'll get a result that I want on the second page in Bing that I don't see until page 10 of Google).

It's the reason I have a Kindle Fire, an Android tablet with ICS, a Windows 8 laptop with a touch screen, and an iPad 2. I have a Gmail account, a Hotmail account, and 2 Yahoo accounts.

here's my squadron of tablets, each with pros and cons:
