Microsoft fires the first shot in the "NEXT" generation.... - Page 192

COD is still 60 FPS, will have Dynamic maps (basically trap doors, player triggered events etc). This is in MP mode.

Customizable "look" to your character.

But the absolute focus on it being a TV box is a bit lop sided. There's no talk of the tech, of the future of interaction, all they've managed to communicate is a handful of Kinect apps for a GoogleTV console, complete with strategic partnerships that tie you to cable and satellite companies. And they didn't address the always on question.

[EDIT] found the IllumiRoom demo

In game footage showing now, supposedly.

Sure looks purdy, hope gameplay is back to old days of being good (probably not though)

That announcement alone makes the Xbox One more desirable than the PS4 for millions of people.

Absolutely! That alone will keep the tables tilted in MS's favor.

We sure? Activision has redefined the words "New Engine". usually "small update" is more in line with that they're selling.

Another reason to go with the PS4. :P

Ha, no kidding. I love the posts made halfway through the presentation that they were disappointed. Jump to conclusions with incomplete information much?

That Sony focused on games vice including lots of info about other stuff is indicative of nothing, except maybe that PS4 won't have as much of this other stuff as the Xbox. It in no way predicts how either system will do wrt games.

As for comments like "If they're spending 20% of their budget on this non-game nonsense the games will suffer...", that's only if the total budget itself is equal to some other (PS4 presumably) system which spends it all on games. If MS is throwing more money at it overall (from all those Gold subscriptions, natch), then they may well be spending more on games in addition to more on all the other stuff.

Just reporting what they said. I am sure all the internet freaks will have every second of this broadcast dissected in the next hour including all the COD stuff.

Forza 5 looked nice as well.

Whether I buy this or PS4 will honestly be dictated by where my friends go. My guess will be XBOX for me, I have never been a big PS fan.

There's a timer running now, counting down to the E3 event. It's 19 days, 22 hours, 29 minutes and about 10 seconds until that.

Huh? That was a CG trailer. Nothing in-game.

So I lose either way.

But if NextBox ships in 2013, I will be happy to post how wrong I was and praise your glory.

But that ain't happening. I would put 2014 at 30% and 2015 at 60% (2016 at 10%).

And it is done, massive disapointment from Microsoft.

I was hoping for some kind of small screen on the controller.
Well that blew. At least e3 is coming soon.

hmmmm, can't wait for the HTPC/WMC crowd to get ahold of One™ (pun intended)

Just to confirm how the TV stuff works:

At launch, Live TV will require a supported receiver device with HDMI output (sold separately).

Very strange retro VCR vibe going on with this thing.....looks hugely deep tho...(as in the dimension...18"+)??

Graphics wise I didn't see anything today that wowed me. The hardware/tech looks good.....the fact that it can read your heartbeat I find......really creepy. But in the end game wise I'll have to wait for E3.

Personally, I'd rather just the new Kinect worked with my current Windows 8 / WMC box for that sort of stuff. biggrin.gif

Not so much "disappointing" as it was utterly predictable. Not a single surprise in the entire event. The tech is only a modest improvement. Kinect does a bit more of what it was already doing. And we get some web series to go along with existing game franchises. Sucks that Xbox will now be the lowest common denominator for game development.

Overall, they're banking way too much on people ditching their phones, tablets, and laptops when they're in the living room.

Why?

I find the fixation on 1080p @ 60fps interesting. Oversimplifying, graphics are composed of three things - resolution (1080p etc), frame rate (60 fps etc), and detail/textures/effects/etc. There is some fixed amount of processing power for creating those things. So, you can get 1080p and 60 fps at the expense of some detail/textures/etc. Or, maybe the developers really want to provide some stunning visual effects but can only get it to render at 30 fps or 720p - this is standard design compromise stuff and I don't understand the need by some folks to insist that some aspects are sacrificed for others. I think it would be sorta cool to see a game that looked as real as standard def television, even at 480i.

Rumble in the controller's triggers!

I like it, but I know there will be complaints. Maybe it can be turned off?

Yup, I have zero desire to force developers into a certain frame rate and resolution.

Yeah. It's weird. They're acting as though the 15-35 year-old crowd actually watches TV. They're clearly aiming to be the living room box, but I just don't think living rooms work that way anymore. Everyone's got a screen (or two) of their own. And why would I want to sit around and watch football when my friend's fantasy stats pop up? Especially if you already have to use your phone (via Smartglass) to navigate that stuff. A lot of flash, but I just don't see this stuff actually sticking.

Don't get your hopes up if past E3's are any gauge.

I expect the 3rd party next gen to shine the most this E3. MSony will be talking heavily about services again and probably show a few exclusives for launch, but thats it.
Did they mention the specs of the 8 CPUz during the presentation?

Is that a confirmed dimension?! That's huge!

The heartbeat thing was super creepy! You really want to lead with that? How about facial recognition, or finger movement or something, but reading my heartbeat?! I'm creeped out, MS!

All in all, I'm curious about what's to come but there weren't enough details for me to have a judgment on whether I want this thing or not. If I can get my TV channels without a cable provider, I'd love this thing. If not, well, I don't have cable now.
