I've just figured out a way to put a positive spin on all of this.
For awhile there, I was thinking of giving up modern gaming, and going back to retro, and I was also thinking about dumping a bunch of money into a PC upgrade and just going PC. However, I've come to my senses, and I'm going to get both the PS4 and XB1. What changed my mind ?
Well, here's the thing. Gaming is definitely going to get more expensive this next round. It's going to make it a situation, where instead of buying 20 games per year, I'll be buying maybe 5 games per year. Each game choice I make will be magnified. The margin for error will be negligible. I'll have to read the reviews, watch the videos, try the demos, listen to the podcasts, etc, etc. I'll have to be extremely careful when picking which 5 games I'll buy all year.
but see, here is the real brilliance of it....
My backlog right now is totally out of control. If I only have one or two XB1 or PS4 games at any one time, I'll most likely be able to actually finish a game here and there, and actually see some end credits every once in awhile. Basically, it's the less is more philosophy. There are many gamers out there, that will buy a game, and play the crap out of that game till they finish it, and then move on to the next game. I've always been the type that usually has about 5 or 6 different games that I bounce back and forth between. The problem with this method, is that it becomes hard to really make your way through one specific game, when you're bouncing around from game to game.
With the new ecosystem coming to XB1, and very likely the PS4 as well, I'm going to be EXTREMELY picky about which games I'm going to pick up, and I'm pretty much going to be stuck with just a couple of games at a time. This will force me to really sink my teeth into these games, and actually finish a couple of them. It's gonna be kinda weird, but exciting at the same time, lol.
