Plugging a USB disk drive stick into the USB port in front. Loaded it up with MP3 music. Won't play says "Wrong File Format".
I can view pictures just fine. But no music.
These songs all play on my IPod that plugs into the receiver except through the usb port.
Any suggestions? I have searched everywhere and found no solutions.
Thanks in advance.
Roger

Loving everything else about this unit.

I have a question for the speaker techs in this forum I purchased some sls surround speakers to go with this unit but this unit only puts out 8ohms but the speakers I believe are 4 or 6 will that mess up my receiver. I thought you could just get a receiver and speakers and everythng would be good to go

Getting ready to open the VSX-1021 and an iPad on Christmas.... Will I be able to listen to other audio played on my iPad (i.e. Pandora, Spotify) through AirPlay or can I only listen to iTunes?? Thanks!

Even though Pandora doesn't have an in-app Airplay button, if you start it first and then doubleclick the Home button and swipe right to go to the audio controls, the Airplay button there will work for Pandora.

In a word, YES. I don't use Spotify but listen to Pandora via AirPlay all the time. Enjoy.

Yes, there's no AirPlay button in the iPad version but there is one in the iPod Touch version, go figure. As posted, selecting from the audio controls does work. Artist, album & song title and album artwork display on the TV from both iPad & iPod Touch versions.

I recieved mine on Monday and spent the entire night getting it up and running! I then discovered this forum, what a great resource. Oddly, nearly every problem that I encountered was posted here, with an answer.
I'm still not where I want to be in configuring everything, but do have two questions that I have not seen here.

Air Play....Apple talks about audio, video and pictures, but all that I can seem to manage is audio. Even when starting airplay on my iPad while viewing pictures, all that I get on my TV is the audio background and cover art of the song playing, not the photos. The same is true when trying to play a movie through my iPad, only the audion of the movie appears. My assumption is that Pioneer does not support pictures or video...is that correct?
Second Question: If I were to buy the BlueTooth adapter, will I be able to listen to movies and TV via my Bluetooth headsets?...or only audio?

The 1021 only supports audio via AirPlay. It will display the song's name, artist, album name and artwork on your TV. It won't pass video. It you want video from your iPad, you need Apple TV. ATV will mirror whatever is on your iPad screen. I was at the Apple store playing with it earlier today, it played both videos and YouTube without any problem.

I unboxed my receiver today just to make sure it wasn't damaged and to make sure it powered on. I noticed that the volume knob (front knob on the right side) is more difficult to turn than the one on the left side. Has anyone else noticed this or is it an issue? My first receiver so I am not sure what to expect.

I don't have my speakers yet to verify everything is in order, but noticed this at first glance. Looks like I have an October build version

Just got everything setup on my new 1021. No problems so far, EXCEPT can't find a way to output audio to my Sennheiser wireless headphones. I have tried the front jack but get intermittent interference. Is there an output source on the rear of the receiver so that I don't have to go through the front jack (Zone 2?? maybe).

Thanks

So I just found out that i'm getting my VSX-1021 for Xmas and now I am scrambling to get speakers. I don't have $500 to blow on them right I'm looking more around the $200-$300 range. Today I can get either:

Jamo S426HCS3 for $185 - or - Yamaha NS-SP3800 for $165

Any experience with either of these? Any suggestions? Side note I already have some pretty nice Yamaha outdoor speakers that I intend on using on my deck (7.1 system right ) So It might be nice to have all Yamaha's??? HELP PLEASE! You guys/gals are awesome BTW.

There are 1064 messages spanning 36 pages, you have to quote the problem you're talking about or no one will have a clue what you're asking.

so it's an error of pioneer site' It's 2021 that has frontal HDMI input?

Thanks!

US VSX-1021-K units most assuredly do NOT have a front HDMI input.
Older US VSX-1020-K units did, as do EU 1021-k units.

I just bought this unit yesterday and it sounds great for movies. However there are a couple of things that I'm trying it to do that my Sony STR-DG810 did:

1. Can this unit output 2 channel left/right signals from all speakers? I really like this on my Sony when listening to music

2. Is there a way to adjust the subwoofer level?

3. My TV audio is going out to the receiver via optic cable, but when watching basic cable, it only out puts 2 channel Front Left/Right. My Sony would take the two channel from the TV and output it as 5.1. Can this receiver do this?
thanks for any responses

Any update on this? Is there supposed to be more resistance when turning the volume knob than when turning the input knob? Should only take 5 seconds for someone to check on their receiver.. Thanks.

I have a 921 and mine is also very resistant.

Okay, thanks. I knew there were some quality control issues so I just wanted to make sure I didn't get a "bad" one that should be returned. Looking forward to setting this up. I am using it to power some Aperions that I am ordering on the 26th

no prob. If you haven't done so already, until your speakers come in (nice choice by the way), I strongly suggest that you read the manual top to bottom and twice!! Some of Pioneer's features can be tricky to get to work as it's not always plug and play. It doesn't take away for very very good audio coming your way.

There are a variety of surround sound options. Check out Standard and Advanced effects and find one that you like. See OP manual pg 35-6.

AFAIK, other than the volume control on the sub, the only way is through Manual MCACC. I run auto MCACC, copy the results to another memory, and make my fine adjustments in the copied memory. I add 1 db to the MCACC calculated sub volume.

Again, check out the surround effects. There are Pro Logic IIx and Neo:6 effects with will give you "surround" sound from 2 ch. sources.

if you are looking for 5.1 sats then Martin Logans MLT-2 are one of the best under $500. I have them paried with 1121. You can have them around $300-350 when on sale @ newegg

Yes the volume knob has the resistance built in (my 1121 does and I remember Yamaha A3000 i was eyeing did). I think most AVR has the volume knob with resistance. I think done for a purpose so you do not accidentally increase it too much and give someone a heart attack.

I did try Pro Logic IIx but it only two speakers worked. I'll tinker around with it some more. Thanks for your help

Don't know if anyone else already mentioned this, but if you have a dlink router, and are having trouble with airplay, there's a setting called "Enable Multicast Streams" under Advanced -> Advanced Network. I turned that on and all my devices could see the 1021-k.

There is a setting under the surround options for 'Expanded Stereo' that does what you want.

@rwood2038

Definitive Tech ProMonitor 800. They go for about $145 MSRP. They also sound fantastic.

I just got my VSX-921 yesterday and have much of the stuff up and running. A problem that has happened twice now is that it just seems to lock up... no buttons work, the remote has no effect, the power button/stand by button doesn't work either. I have to unplug it and plug it back in.

Thanks for any help you all can provide.

I have the same problem! One supplement: I can recognise the problem before I want to turn on the receiver: the red dot light 'Advanced MCACC' is burning. Are there more people who have this problem and what to do to fix this problem? Sometimes I think it has something to do with the network?

Merry X-Mas!!!

Hello. I have really only one question (so far) about my new 1021-K receiver: If the TV connected to the AVR is pre-CEC, age-wise (2007), then is it pretty much impossible to get passthrough to work? Thanks for any help.
