People that have TV's that support CEC are having problems getting passthru to work so I would think the odds are pretty low that it will work for you. That said, you should try it.

Has anyone run into an issue when they play a bluray it starts off playing the second audio channel(the background sound) instead of the primary audio (the dialog). I have to turn off then back on for it to kick in. It is starting to become more and more annoying. HELP!!!

Thanks, Dan

Lots of good info here, but didn't see anyone with this one. When using an iOS device and the remote app to get to my iTunes library, turning the volume up on zone 2 actually controls zone 1 volume while whatever device is playing on zone 1.

Anyone else? Suggestions? Also, anyone find a way to turn on zone 2 AirPlay without it switching in zone 1?

Thinking of adding an appletv or hooking my express back up to a seperate input to get around this, but it seems like a waste.....

Sorry if this too basic a question. I have some cerwin vega speakers i use in a 5.1 setup (E712 (300w) for front left and right). My current receiver no longer works (pioneer vsx d608) and i am thinking of buying the 1021 as a replacement. From what I have read, if I blast an underpowered amp to a higher wattage speaker, the clipping/distortion can ruin the speaker. is the differential great enough (300w speaker vs 90w per channel on the 1021) that I should look at the 1121 instead? I dont turn the volume up too high, but since im a novice i wanted to make sure im not doing anything an stupid. any info is appreciated.

Some have experienced Airplay dropping out or off when sending to the 1021 wirelessly. I found this also to be true.

I use a Lynksys E2000 router with a Linksys wireless bridge to connect my 1021. I found when we turn on our microwave oven, it knocks Airplay off air. Kaput. I have to reconnect through iTunes when running from there. When running directly from my iOS device, it tries to reconnect and drops out, eventually finding its way again, only after a few moments (when the microwave is off).

If you live in a condo, townhouse, apartment or something that shares a wall with neighbors, this might be part of your problem.

Hope this helps.

Bought the 1021 today and I'm trying to setup HDMI passthru. TV is Samsung w/ Anynet enabled, the Sony BD has HDMI control on, the Cox cable box and Apple TV2 don't have a visible HDMI-CEC setting. Only the BD is reliable so I'm guessing this is a CEC issue (or lack of) with the other devices. The big issue is when the TV is on displaying the Cox STB and I cut power on the 1021 I get five seconds of TV and then it goes blue. It *TRIES* to do it but nada. Any thoughts? I tried the 800 number but missed them by five minutes. Can't find the same issue here but since this isn't a brand new model I was hoping someone else had seen this.

Total newbie here and I am a bit confused. After the spending the day setting up I am feeling good about Airplay and my speakers!

My TV is a Samsung LN52B750 (2009 LCD), I have a PS3 and Cable box (STB) all set up to the AVR through a single HDMI Cable each.

My Questions:
1. What good is passthrough if there is no sound? When i turn off the AVR and use Passthrough I get video from my ps3 but I get no audio. Any thoughts on that one? Could it be that my TV does not support the passthrough? My TV volume does not work at all since hooking up the AVR. I thought that was normal but now I'm not so sure as I realized that the TV's volume would be the only volume available in the case of using the PS3 when the AVR is powered down. Now I'm confused? Help anyone?

2. I have this annoying issue is when I turn the system on the AVR defaults to TV/Sat and based on the manual I have nothing plugged into that input, I use the DVR input so I have to manually switch this ever time, is that normal?

Any help is appreciated, you guys always have some great answers! thanks!

Thanks!

I just set up mine today... same issue with the TV/Sat source always defaulting with nothing connected. Has to be an easy fix but haven't found it yet. As for the passthru, it's K-I-L-L-I-N-G me because while the BD player works fine, the STB plays for a few seconds then the screen loses video going blue. Assuming it's an issue with the STB since mine does work with the BD but....??? After I enabled HDMI-CEC in the BD player I got the audio to work in standby mode, and for a brief moment I could swear the STB did, too. But at this point I'm frustrated and rather spent so I could be wrong.

Exactly the same thing just happened to me...STP worked for a second (more like 5 seconds) then just went off.

Where does the sound come from in passthrough when it works on your BD? TV or Receiver speakers? I am using a PS3 and I did enable HDMI control but still no sound? Not sure what I'm missing

Here's my scenario:

BD = HDMI-CEC active
TV = Anynet+ active (although the TV displays it grayed out and Receiver=off)
Power up BD, play title, sound from receiver only. Pioneer remote controls 1021 volume BUT Samsung TV does show the volume bar as the 1021 gets louder/quieter (via HDMI-CEC I suppose). Power off 1021, screen flickers for a second, video returns and TV begins playing audio. 1021 has only 2 red LED's lit. Power on 1021, screen flickers, audio moves from TV to receiver only.

If I leave the BD powered up I can change the 1021 input to the STB, audio still on receiver, TV quiet. Turn the 1021 off, screen flickers and then I get **sustained video and sound is on the TV**. Magical to this point.

Then to break it....

Turn off HDMI-CEC in BD. Repeat same scenario but replace **sustained video and sound is on the TV** with **a few seconds of video and audio on the TV and then blue screen**.

This is harder than it needs to be.

We have VERY similar setups...

I have a;
Samsung LN52B750
BD: Sony PS3
STP: CISCO 8652HD (Suddenlink formally Cox)

So we have got to work together here...I will let you know if I get it, please do the same! Good Luck!

...and a dose of bad news from Cox... no HDMI control in their 8642HDC STB. The Tech was "95% sure it doesn't do CEC" so I asked him to go get the other 5%... he escalated it to somebody, so he said.

Because of this Pioneer says from the STB I have to HDMI to the TV and optical from the STB to the Pioneer. Pisses me off because I had visions of using the Pioneer as an HDMI input concentrator... you know, a single point to switch sources at. I can already hear my wife complaining that I spent $ and it doesn't do what I was after. And then there's the whole "one more remote and I'll scream" rant. FMyL.

If I beat this I'll let you know.

LOL are we married to sisters or something? Cause that's already what I got last night! Yea I had the same idea..a hub that controlled all of my HDMI components.

Just so I'm clear you are now running HDMI to the TV from the STB and an optical audio from the STB to the Pioneer for a better sound quality right?

Still cannot get DTS Master or DTS HD. I just watched a BD last night. I have a Panny BDT-110 connected by HDMI to the 1021, then HDMI to my ST30.

When I display the audio options for the BD player, it says its playing in DTS Master HD. I look at the display of my 1021, and it just shows DTS. Both the HD and Master light do not light up. I really dont know why. I cant seem to get DTS HD on any BD I use. Even if the BD player is sending the DTS HD/Master signal, it just shows DTS. Any ideas??? Is there anywhere on the 1021 that you need to "activate" the DTS HD or Master??

Does the remote control light up? Looks like it would/should but I find no information in the owners manual that say's it does. Mine doesn't so if it does how do you get it to light up?

Pretty sure it does NOT. The remote is the bigest flaw of the whole thing. Its a giant piece of crap.

With that player, you need to set secondary audio to off in the digital audio settings. When secondary audio is on, the player outputs lossy instead of lossless. There's nothing you need to do on the AVR to enable lossless decoding.

SoCalJake - a Harmony remote will fix you right up. Press one button and the remote takes care of all the switching for you. Wives and kids love them. Me, too, actually. HDMI control is fraught with problems that often makes it more trouble than it's worth.

Thanks so much. I will try this when I get home from work. I really hope it works because it has been killing me haha.

How about that! I often feel like when stuff goes awry that it's only me and I go through mental contortions to explain it to others. FINALLY, somebody else shares my disappointment.

Yes, but not for sound quality but because the Cox STB doesn't play well with HDMI-CEC/Control.
Code:
STB -------> HDMI -----------------------> TV
STB -------> OPTICAL --> 1021
BD  -------> HDMI -----> 1021 --> HDMI --> TV
APPLE TV --> HDMI -----> 1021 --> HDMI --> TV
This was Pioneers solution. It blows, but it works, so... whatever.

Thanks... I blew my load on the 1021. If I'd have bought a lesser VSX I'd be on my way to the store... oh well, maybe next week. It's worth a try, I'm the King of 30-day returns.

I hit up the wife about picking up a Harmony and almost got murdered! I definitely want to get one but it's gonna have to wait a few weeks.

@BIslander which Harmony do you have or recommend?

Glow in the dark!! WTH is up with that? I agree the remote is a waste. Pioneer would be better to not put one in the box at all and knock $25 bucks off the price so we can buy a real remote. Oh wait the pioneer remote is only worth $2.00 never mind

My setup:
Moto DCT6416 STB ------HDMI-----> 1021 -----HDMI-----> Sharp 60LE832U TV
Sony BDP-BX2 -----------HDMI-----> 1021 -----HDMI-----> TV

We play all audio via the AVR, the TV speakers are permanently turned off. The old Moto STB (Cox) doesn't have a problem sending audio to the 1021 via HDMI.

The system is completely controlled by an AR Xsight ARRX15G remote. One button turns everything on, one button turns it off. My non-tech wife loves it . She can't deal with multiple devices/remotes. The ARRX15G is a great device & won't break the bank ... under $40 on Amazon.

I'll check out the AR Xsight remotes, thanks for the tip. Our issue isn't that the STB doesn't xmit audio via HDMI to the TV, that works fine only if the 1021 is on, but rather that it fails to xmit anything when we attempt HDMI standby. Its worth mentioning my STB is a Cisco 8642HDC with no CEC control. That's why the lame workaround was mentioned.

Gotya, since we don't use the TV speakers at all, HDMI passthru is not an issue for me. BTW, I think my Moto STB was built before CEC was invented

Question: How do you navigate page up/page down functions in the Cox guide with that ARRX15G remote? I'm liking the price.

The Xsight has 6 programmable soft keys. You have 6 displayed at one time and multiple pages of 6 keys each. I have two keys assigned to the Page UP & DOWN function. You connect the remote to your PC via USB and use their web app for programming. Xsight's website has just about any code you will need & if it doesn't, the device can learn it from the old remote.
