Same here, when airplay drops off the network just reboot the bridge router and all is good. As long as airplay shows up on the iOS device, I never have a problem connecting and it has stayed connected for up to 6 hours when I brought it down. I never have a problem dropping connection while playing. I'm using a cheap Monoprice router as a wifi bridge.

We just got the Pioneer to go with our new Samsung pn59d8000. We have everything set up & working well but we have one baffling issue.

When we use our Harminy One remote we choose "watch tv", the DVR, receiver & tv all turn on as programmed. But then the receiver correctly shows dvr/Bdr briefly then it automatically changes to tv/sat.

We do not want it to change to tv/sat but stay on dvr/Bdr.

If we simply turn the receiver off then on, it stays on the last selection, this being dvr/Bdr, it does not automatically change to tv/sat.

Our set up, very basic:
Coax to dvr, dvr via Hdmi to dvr/Bdr in, Hdmi out to tv.

We have Control on, using Hdmi arc for sound.

What are we doing wrong?

you aren't doing anything wrong, it is "working as designed" when you have hdmi control turned on...

turn off hdmi control and run an optical cable from tv to avr to get sound generated by the tv back to the avr...

Details: The MBP outputs it's video thru a mini display connector which runs thru an adapter to an HDMI cord and then into the 1021 - video works fine. HOWEVER, the Mac doesn't include it's audio in the HDMI, so that comes out as analog and needs to be patched into the 1021 via RCA stereo plugs. When I do input setup, I'm only offered COAX-1/2 or OPTical-1/2, but they don't seem to work.

What year/build Mac? Our slightly older late ’10 MBP13 runs the audio via HDMI through the mini-DP adapter (assuming you’ve got a DP-HDMI adapter that supports audio, some products don’t, and there are revisions to some products to handle the audio). The newer MBP15 works the same from the Thunderbolt port (using one of the DP-HDMI adapters around here).

Then you simply select audio in prefs and select the HDMI output.

(If you’re aware of all this, apologies, not sure where you’re starting from).

We tried that, we had it set to optical for sound but the issue is when using the harnony remote, we choose function to watch tv, the remote turns on the receiver to dvr but then the receiver changes on its own to tv/sat.

We can get sound no problem via Hdmi or thru the cables, the odd issue is when the receiver suddenly changes at startup to tv/ sat.

Did you just set the TV output to optical or turn off HDMI control. When HDMI control is on (both AVR & TV) and you turn on the TV, it says "I'm here, switch to me" and the AVR does. Be sure HDMI control is disabled on the TV, at least.

then you do not have hdmi control turned off on all your devices... as the behaviour you are describing is what it does...

Then why does it only switch to sat/tv when we use the Logitech harmony remote vs just power on/off from the receiver remote, which is does not auto change at power up?

a) read apaulct's post...

b) when just using the avr's remote, you aren't issuing an "on" command to the display (which you are with the harmony)...

it's also possible that you've hosed your harmony activity programming, but it's much more likely that the described scenario is your issue...

Ok, we will go back & play with some of the settings, I can't say for sure that we did change all the settings.

OK. Set up the static IP. Let's see how it goes.

ANYWAY----anyone know how to listen to Airplay music yet also be able to watch TV simultaneously? So, music is coming from Airplay and the TV signal comes from satellite. I'm using a single HDMI to the tv, no dual zones.

pioneer vsx-1021-k ------ cant get it to "see" my ps3. i have only 2 components to hook up to the avr. My directv set-top box (which is working fine) and the ps3. I have both hooked up by way of high speed HDMI. When I try to select the input for the ps3, which is dvd input, nothing. my LG tv says no signal. ps3 is fine because when i run HDMI directly to tv, works. I did check the ps3 settings and it all seems to be correct to me. ie - HDMI output

Have you tried plugging in the PS3 to another HDMI input on the AVR other than DVD? If another HDMI doesn't work I would go a step further and try to plug it into the component or AV input just as a test.

About 4 or 5 times a day, the video drops out and the Samsung displays port information for about 5 seconds, then the video returns. The audio continues just fine during this video drop. Rewinding the DVR to play that same video segment works just fine, so it does not appear to be a problem with the video itself.

I was not having this problem with my Onkyo receiver in exactly the same setup.

Hey guys, I bought my VSX-1021 a little over 2 weeks ago and have been pretty happy so far with everything it can do, and has done for us. The set up went pretty well, but I will agree with most everyone on here that the remote is a pain to navigate around. Very cumbersome. I have not hooked the receiver into my home network yet, as I am waiting on my wifi bridge to come in the mail. Hopefully it arrives tomorrow so I can hook it up and use my Ipad and Iphone to play around with more of the settings.

Anyway, I have had this exact same problem with video drop out since I hooked it up, my problem doesnt see to happen as frequently as others have, but all the same, its happening. I actually returned an onkyo receiver before purchasing the pioneer for this reason. It wasnt the only reason I returned the onkyo, but it was a big one, and now I seem to be having the same problem with my pioneer, although not nearly as frequently. With the onkyo, it would happen once a night during DVR playback. Now it happens once every 2-3 nights during DVR playback.

Anyone have any thoughts? I am having the cable guy come out on friday to check the DVR, as we have been having some other small problems with it. Hopefully they can figure it out.

Also, I want to thank everyone in this thread that has contributed to it, as I have learned a tremendous amount from all of you.

What are you guys using for delay settings for your harmony one with this receiver?

hi foxcd1...thanks for replying. Yes.....i did try a different hdmi. i made sure to power off the av rec and unplug before doing so as well. called pioneer and they said i had to "reset" the ps3. just did that, assuming they mean the audio/video reset. still nothing. im going to call pioneer back to see if there is a next step they suggest. i will try the component too.
btw...i saw people mentioning the way to reset the receiver? thought i might want to do that now that i changed some of the input labels and cant remember what they were by default.

Not sure if this applies but i had a similar problem using HDMI, my fix was turning off deep colour in the ps3.

Good luck

rsoares28........not only did your post apply......but you, in one sentence, just fixed the issue I just spent hours trying to correct with phone calls to both Pioneer and Playstation. Pioneer told me it was an HDCP issue and there was nothing I could do but hook it up direct to tv. THANK YOU SO MUCH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hold down the Enter button on the front panel while pressing the Power/On button. The front panel will then offer you a choice of settings, reset being one. Use the Preset L/R arrows to move through the options.

Searched site but not sure I found an answer...on Zone 2 if I simply want to play music out on my deck, the included Ipod dongle (connects to USB on front) ISN'T considered an analog input which is necessary for Zone 2-only listening, i.e. using that, the Zone 2 outdoor speakers work...but you hear the same music from Zone 1 also, correct?

If so, do I instead use a Y-adapter and plug into the red/wht. instead to have it ONLY play on the deck (Zone 2)? OR, has it been confirmed that Airplay works for Zone 2-only but I need to activate Home Media Gallery (HMG)?

Thanks for any help you can offer!

I'm looking into this model for a friend but have a quick question. I know this model has a zone 2 but I'm not sure if it will let me play out of zone 2 if in zone 1 i'm already playing 7.1. Do I need a amp to run zone 2 if I have zone 1 setup with a 7.1? Thanks

according to page 20 of your manual, the usb/ipod input is a valid source for zone 2...

note that if it is a hdmi or spdif input, it will NOT go to zone 2, even if you are using that source in the main zone...

Hello all.

Trying to enable 3D mode on a legacy Samsung DLP-LED (A750 series) TV, running through the 1021 out of a Panasonic DMP-310 (which outputs checkerboard).

I have 1.3a cables, running into the IN1 port, and out through the tv. The problem is, that the TV will not enable "3D Mode" unless the BD player is hooked DIRECTLY into HDMI3. Passing the signal through the receiver seems to negate that ability-- the 3d is playable, but out of sync because the Samsung will recognize the "3D mode" in its options menu. I do not have a Mitsibushi 3DC-100 converter.

Is there any way to get the receiver to correctly pass through the 3d/checkerboard signal from the 310. HDMI control is "on", as are Anynet / Viera for the A750 and 310.

Hey Guys,

I've been running a 2.1 setup with this receiver (stereo only) but just picked up a center channel. The problem is I can't get the center channel to output sound without selecting a surround setting (I know this is normal) and I hate the choices (Dolby, etc) and what they do to the sound quality. Everything sounds muffled with these selected and I would like to keep the clarity of stereo while outputting from the center channel - which setting is my best choice? Is there a way to do that without using a setting like Dolby, etc.

Thanks!
You can hit the Advanced surround button on the remote until you get TV Surround (which I like for 2ch TV shows).

Hi, I'm new to this forum, so I apologize if this is the wrong thread or something

I'm trying to set up my Pioneer VSX-1021 using the ipad app 'inavigator'. I only have 2 front speakers and a subwoofer, but wanted to bi-amp them for more power. The set up navi doesn't have an option for 2.1 sound bi-amping, but it does have one for 5.1 bi-amping. I used that set-up process then the full auto calibration. My question is: Did I do this the correct way? I'm assuming the calibration procedure understood that it is set up in 2.1 not 5.1...or am I missing anything.

Thanks for your help!

Also, if someone could point me in the right direction for optimal set-up settings, that would be great!

passively bi-amping does not give you "more power"...

don't bother...
