Apple TV is great but Airplay audio quality is not as good as Airplay directly from the receiver.

On the Crutchfield website for VSX-1021-K I found the following disclaimer:

"Note: It is not possible to produce sound simultaneously from the front height/front wide speakers and the surround back/Zone 2 speakers."

Is this true? Are there any other options, or can I only use 2 speakers in Zone 2?

I really appreciate any input!

Are these speakers used in the same room? If so you will want to wire them in Series, just google it. If you are wiring two sets of speakers in different rooms use a speaker selector. Monoprice has very good selectors at decent prices.

Your 1021 is a 7.1 receiver which means it can power up to 7 channels, if you are using 5 of them for your living room that only leaves you with two channels that can be used explaining why your manual says they can't power one 2 and Front Height at the same time while in a 5.1 setup.

I have Energy Take 5.1 speakers setup with my 1021 and must say they sound great. I think it would also fit your budget.

Hello, I don't know if anybody has encountered this problem with the app. It appears that the app freezes on my ipad and ipod touch, and I can't access the receiver. The app can't find the receiver. I am saying the app because Airplay works, it turns on the receiver with no problem and plays music, but I can't control the receiver and zones, etc.

Any ideas? Thanks so much.

I have searched for this particular issue, but have not stumbled across the answer.

All, I am looking for ideas of what to use to control all my AV equipment. I have a logitech remote that performed wonderfully in my old house, but I cannot use it since all the components are now inside a cabinet with wood doors in the new house. Looks like my only alternative is an RF remote. Can anybody suggest any other ideas? Thanks.

Check the ip address in the app. Sounds like it may have the wrong address. Airplay uses bonjour, the app just straight ip address. This could account for Airplay working but the app not.
Is the ip address the app is looking for the receivers? If so what is the 1021's ip address?

Thanks,

Hi,

I am a happy owner of a Pioneer 1021k, and I would appreciate your help
with a problem that I have using the icontroav2 iPad app to access Internet Radios.

In a nutshell everything works fine, except that in the icontrolav2 window
where i can select a radio station to play (say in my Favorite folder)
I see only the first three stations of the list that I set up
on the vtuner Web site (which contains about 12 stations).

When I access the same Favorite folder DIRECTLY through
the pioneer 1021 remote control, I do see all my 12 stations
(on the tv display) not only the first three stations of my list.

Does the icontrolav2 allow you to see ONLY three radio stations at a time?
If so, what should I do to see the next three, etc.?

Thanks a lot for your help!

I apologize in advance if this topic has been discussed before
or the solution is trivial....

Gianni

Yes, the app needs the ip address of the receiver. That address depends on your network setup, it isn't something we can give you. See pg 66-67 in the manual for network setup instructions.

I have a Pioneer 1021 with a Cox Motorola dvr, Sony BD, Focal 836's and a Pansonic Plasma TV.
I recently decided to hook everything up through the 1021.
When playing cable everything works fine but when I play a recording from the DVR I get all of the background sound but none of the spoken audio. If you turn the volume up enough the spoken audio is there but very muted. Again this is only on playback through the DVR, everything else works fine.
Any thoughts?

^^
Sounds like you are getting stereo, not 5.1 sound. The spoken audio in usually in the center channel, the background in the front left/rights. Do you have a center speaker connected? Is the dvr set to Dolby 5.1 or stereo? What does the display on the front of the 1021 indicate? I had this problem years ago, the station forget to set their transmission to Dolby, they sent stereo, missing the center channel but this hasn't happened in at least 3 years.

has anyone made the HDMI standby pass through work? any help is appreciated. thanks!
Nope!
Hey Allen.
I understand. I am using a wireless adapter and it is supposed to give an automatic IP address. What I don't understand is that the app has been working fine until recently.
Thanks,

Thanks,

The adapter automatically picks up an ip from router via dhcp (normal home setup). The address it picks up can change either if you restart the receiver or the dhcp lease expires. It's possible the address changed and iControl still has the old address. Just a thought.

Not reliably, some success if all components are hdmi control enabled but YMMV.

hi.. i have already turned on this setting in the receiver (if that's what you meant) but i couldn't get it to work.

i have the same source connected to my yamaha receiver and the yamaha is able to do the standby hdmi pass through.. my pioneer doesn't using the same source. so i guess it is not a source problem.. the situation is when I turn off the A/V to standby the picture stays on the tv briefly, the sound actually switches to the TV speakers, all is good for about a second, and then picture and sound disappears, TV is still on (meaning no more HDMI passthrough)...

i wanted to keep my pioneer but due to this issue, i might return it..

thanks!

I have a problem with my Pioneer VSX-1021K and I am stumped.
I have my TiVo going in to HDMI 2 on the back of my Reciever. I also have an optical cable going from the Panasonic TV to the reciever, so when I want to use Viera Apps such as netflix I can get sound.

I do use the HDMI control stuff to, say increase the volume on any remote.

When I power on the TV, the receiver also powers on, which is handy, shows TiVo (what I labeled HDMI2) for the correct input, and then very frequently within 2 seconds clicks and changes to TV Sound. I have change the input back to HDMI 2 again. This doesn't happen every time, but very frequently. I have to use the iphone app to switch back to HDMI2, or even worse, get my lazy ass off the couch and switch it back. (I have 3 kids, so there is no way I'll be able to keep the Receiver remote in plain sight all the times).

If I unplug the optical cable, no difference. I do unfortunately want the Control with HDMI on so that the reciever will power up with the TV, and the volume is easy to control.

Any suggestions as to what's going on and how I can fix it if possible? I would be extremely grateful.

Thanks
Ben

michibahn, sorry, yes that was my reply to your pass through question. I think that there are several of us that have spent countless hours trying to get this to work without succeeding and just gave up. BTW, I got as far as you did, everything works for about a few seconds, then it shuts off.

This could be a possibility. I guess I can get the IP address from the Netgear via my laptop, and then I can manually input it to the iControl.
Thanks Allen.

Thank you for your confirmation. Now I know I'm not the only one..

Pass thru now working for me. Set-up: Panasonic VT-30, AT&T uverse dvr, Panasonic DMP-BDT310, Pioneer VSX-1021. DVR connected via HDMI to the receiver, DVD player connected to the receiver (bd input). HDMI receiver to the VT-30. Pass thru started working when I changed the DVD input to the receiver from DVD to the bd input. Your mileage may vary.

Thanks Allen. For some unknown reason when I played cable the Pioneer would go into stereo mode when I played the DVR (same box) it would put it in surround mode. By overriding to stereo with the DVR my problem was solved. I should have looked closer at the display. This did not happen for any other installed device.
Thanks again

Rhodofan, I like the disclaimer! I think in my case, the culprit is the Directv DVR H24. I would love to get this working.

I could not get my DirecTV HR24 working either. My BD-53FD does pass through without a problem. So I believe that the HDMI pass through does work on the 1021 but it depends on the other components.

Rhodofan is using an ATT Uverse box which I believe is newer than the HR24 boxes, this may prove my theory correct.
Thanks
