See post #120. Specs for a proven cab design tested with a different driver. Performs near to 2 ported cabs with the same loading overall on half the power. Still it is huge at 650L, so about the size of 2 ported cabs as well...You have to pay for lunch as usual. It would be difficult to get much smaller than this with any kind of efficiency gains or extension.

Yeah, it does work better spacewise at a higher Fc, but by then you get into territory that can be covered with other drivers. Haven't really spent any time looking into it, to be honest. I have next to no interest in working with an 18" at the moment.

Or any other really big bass horn to be honest... I just can't afford to keep building subwoofers every year, and I have enough bass in the home theater as is

I've been lurking in the DIY section for a while, mainly looking at the subs as it is the only part of my system I feel is lacking. I want to build a new sub and thought these drivers looked pretty good (picturing it in my head with black dust cap). I used the T/S params from the website and modeled a 2 driver sealed system in an 8 cubic feet box in Win ISD and I thought it modeled very well (QTC approximately 0.58), but it brought me to this question. It looks like it was designed for IB and EBS applications, so would this drivere be suited for sealed systems? I would post my graphs, but those are on my computer at home. I figured I would ask the question and let those with more experience in HT chime in. (I am still trying to learn about HT subs as it's been about 8 years since I designed any sub system and that was for car audio).

Well Iam not an expert but going by the numbers provided It seems to be that the pi-18 models well in just about any enclosure type. Much like the Mal X drivers, these seem to be able to cross different sub platforms.

So now that the specs are out, what's the story about when these go on sale?

Thanks. I was hoping as much. I've modeled other drivers and some just didn't seem to play as nicely in different boxes. I may try modeling it in a ported to see how big of a box I would need for a low tune, but 8 cubic feet was a pretty decent size I thought for 2 18" drivers.

Now the waiting begins...

650L is around 22cf... which is a cabinet around 2x2x5 feet... let me model my new HT room in Sketchup... but I may just be able to pull this off.

If I understand correctly, the Tapped Horn would trade some efficiency but I might be able to go deeper than the the rear loaded horn?

This is 20 cu ft gross. You need to minus material thickness, driver, port and bracing. That ain't gonna be that big. My subs are 24" wide by 30" deep by 48" high and that only yields 15 cu ft net.

I need to get WinISD installed again and start modelling the driver properly... but ISDonline does show nice response in 20cf @ 13hz

Is there going to be a 15" version coming soon as well?

The cab simulation that I posted has already been designed, a pair built off of the prints and ground plane tested with LMS Ultra drivers which was what it was designed around. It is 24"x45"x45". Yes...Big. Any horn for an 18" will be big.

I am running IXL 18's in the "easy button max's" with a EP4000 running in stereo mode and I run them up to 150Hz.

I haven't chimed in much as I have been playing around with room placement and I have finally found a sweet spot , so I can talk a little more about the results.

I use a SVS AS-EQ for sub EQ'ing and I run it all through my MRX500 using the Anthem processing.

I have run these subs for over a year with four 6 foot towers running four 8" woofers in each that I built myself. Along with a "spread out" design with four 8's as a center channel.

My subs can move your hair around at 8 feet of distance in a 14x22 room with 9 foot ceilings. I have them pointed at the ceiling now as it manipulates room gain and it works for me.

I can vouch that I have beat the crap out of these subs for over a year at levels "in the red" on the EP4000 with music like Eminem to movies like Iron Man 2 (the whip scene in Monaco is truely something you just have to experience) and the subs just hang in there and keep on impressing.

Before I did all this I seriously was thinking of upgrading due to a crappy set-up on my part and I apologize if I ever said anything to give anyone any doubts on these subs.

I was dead wrong and they give me chills on a daily basis.

Mark has given me great customer service and I can't wait to sink my teeth into these new Pi 18's as I add two more easy button max's into my system with these drivers.

I'll still run the EP4000 to power these as well and I have to say I am a bass nut. Maybe not like some, but I love bouncing dishes one floor up in the house as it is, to add these for a total of four 18's? Wow I can't wait.

All in all I have about 4000 "real" watts into everything and adding another 2 with another 2k in wattage should be about right for what I hope to achieve.

Specs are cool, but I want to hear and feel it.

I was hoping the 18's would go on sale around Halloween to Thanksgiving. And then the 21's maybe just a week after that. Thats what I was hoping atleast.

Not officially but someone else was quoted 10 day build time and 10 day ship time.

Hopefully to answer some questions others might have had as well, I talked with Mark today and he said that dual voice coils was a possibility but a ways off and not set up for it currently. Also shipping is flat rate of $90 per driver to the US and he's going to see if a few bucks could be saved if ordering multiples, I specifically asked in reference to 4. Lastly he did stick by the recommendation of 1200 watts to the driver.

Ouch... on all that stuff. I guess the good part is that I can save up in that time.

same here as duals would be nice to run a pair per channel on the FP14000 that outa be about right eh?

You still could except at 8 ohms which is 2,350 watts which is almost exactly what is recommended per driver provided the amp is pulling that much on the regular. I'd almost look closer at the 10000Q which is 2100 watts x 4. In real world conditions I doubt 2100 watts except for peaks so maybe in normal operation closer to what's ideal for the driver?

Hoping for Canadians the shipping charges are less.

I'd really like dual 4's VC as on option but that's on cuz I want to use them dual opposed. Just makes wiring and picking the right amp that much easier, imo.
