Avoid mdf for the baffle side. But yeah beefy box is a must!

any more news of additional Pi18's showing up damaged? I saw on HTS a guy had one where the pole piece was severely shifted inside the VC and had to send two back...Any good stories of perfectly working ones?

So was the damage from shipping or construction?

Any new word on these drivers? I'm very interested in adding either the 18 or the 21 to my theatre.

Last I read, these were showing up damaged, and then the thread died. I don't see any builds either.

shipping was what he deduced, i mean it was WAY out of line.

Cheers. The reason for asking was that if the damage was due to poor design, or poor packing then they deserve a slap and to be told to get their act together.

If the driver design is fine, and the shipping packaging is reasonable to keep the driver safe, then maybe a different shipper or some other solution is needed.

There are few manufacturers of drivers like these left any more and I didn't want it to spread unnecessarily/mistakenly (eg random google searches finding the thread) that there was something wrong with the drivers themselves if it were simply crap shippers, and possibly damage sales.

quite true, wouldnt want that either, I think it is more along the lines of the driver is just fine, but the packaging and possibly the shipping company issues as you suggested need to be looked into and dealt with. I know mach5 doesnt want all their drivers being sent back to them damaged from bad shipping so im sure they will do what they have to to protect the drivers even more.

i asked mark about the shipping issues in relation to the 21's and he said they will be packaged very well... here's hopin'

Mark said he will add mine to the pallet that will be coming here with the order of 19's so hopefully that will aid mine in being protected. Either way international shipping sucks.

Is Mark sending a whole pallet down here? Do you know when this is happening? Who is going to distribute the pallet? I'm still waiting on my two pi18's.

I emailled Sam at Affordable Drivers the day the Pi18 were released and this is what I received in reply.

"Thanks for your enquiry. Yes, we certainly will be stocking these and I anticipate with the different dust-cap options.

I'd certainly recommend waiting for the Pi-18s to arrive as the problem with importing is the cost and time associated with returning items if they are faulty.

Still not heard anything but I really didn't expect to until they'd at least landed.

Yah I dont when it will be shipped thats just what Mark told me. I figure still another month. But thats just what I am thinking.

Always thought a dual PR would be nice but for me I would end up going as low as I could with the tuning which might not be a good thing for a smaller type cab. But thats just me and I dont know how to use the PR's.

Out as much weight as you can on them in the biggest enclosure you can.

I think I need to buy like 20 of these guys and build a bunch of different designs.

I wish I could build mine now and then just build my wall of subs. But with things rocky around here(relationship) its usually not on the first things to buy.

When things got rocky around here, the HT build was the only thing that kept me sane for a few months...

Does anyone know if MACH5 has a linear motor driver in the works like the MaelX?

Mark needs a marketing director. He could sell a whole lot of these if info was available. Where is the news coming from?

isn't the Xmax on these 32 or more mm? IDK if they use shorting rings or anything like that, but to me... whther a driver is Xmax 32mm cuz of over hung, under hung, XBL^2, split gap, split coil, whatever what not...it's linear to 32mm.

In the absence of actual measured results to assume the Xmax of any driver means it's linear to that excursion is wishful thinking.

Stated Xmax more often than not is simply a relationship between the voice coil length and the gap depth.

Many mfgr's define xmax as the point where BL is 70% of max.
