So I got the drivers today, holy hell, these are beefy!!!! a good 15 lbs heavier than my mal-x 21's and very well built!! Mark thought the baskets were the same as the mal-x 21's were but they are not, they are MUCH beefier. These baskets look like they could fall off a house and survive!! These are the beefiest baskets I've personally ever seen on a sub. The surround is thick and loks to be well over built. I love my mal-x 21's but these things surpass that build quality by a fair margin! I've got them running on a 20hz tone for a while to loosen up the surrounds as they are pretty stiff.

I'd take away .5 cm to the cutout hole and everything else is golden. The flush mount hole is good.

surrounds look like they may be exactly the same lol. I measured them and they are both 3". The Mal-x has the gasket on top where the screw holes go and the FTW doesn't, thats why it look a bit different. It's nice to have the mal-x to compare it to lol.
The spider is also somewhat different.

take away .5 cm to the 51.3 cutout. So 50.8cm's. I had my boxes CNC cut and they are exactly 51.25 cm's and there is a bit of light showing through. and there is wiggle room for the sub of 3/4 cm's per side. So adding 1 cm should be good but not to tight.

I had them in the holes again, you'd be pretty safe with 1cm but if your getting your boxes built, maybe it's best to go extra safe and only take .5cm's away. So 50.8 cm mounting hole.

On sims, they look to be extremely close, I'll be painting my boxes tomorrow and have them up and running by Friday night hopefully. I'll be letting them run free air until I got to bed and after I get home tomorrow. I'm not running them anywhere near full excursion, I'd say about half, maybe a bit less.

I had painted my boxes yesterday at work in truck bed liner and took them home today and installed the subs about 2 hour ago.




I've been cranking tunes and tones since then lol. It's a good thing I have some Clones because these suckers eat up my ep4000's with ease!!! Compared to my mal-x 21's, you can tell the FTW's have the stronger motor, they start and stop and sound a ton like my old LMS ultras I had a while back. clean and razor sharp. O man my system is so over the top for my room it's bordering on insanity!!! wooo hooo!. I got the place to myself this weekend and I plan on unleashing these the whole time!. Got a bunch of friends coming over tomorrow and 3 neighbors coming over in about a hour to check them out.
I really do think this is the best built driver I've ever seen personally and I've seen a ton of drivers! This driver could be as good as it can get.... at least for now lol

I had them both on free air and with the same song, you could see a slight difference (I only did this for amusement, my comments were based on in box time lol) listened when the driver would stop and start. I guess I'm just assuming thats the BL since they were in open air. I know i should have taken a video but I really just didn't think of it at the time, stupid me I guess lol
I not really comparing the driver in their optimal box size, just what I'm running 24 cubed boxes. Though as far as a optimal sealed box, That was what Kevin told me to run as well as Mark, they though it was a good idea.

I though it may be at first the suspension but I've been running the FTW at 20hz for almost 2 full days and to be honest, I'd not think the mal-x 21 has a whole lot more time than that lol

I won't be posting room measurements, they are eq'd flat to 15hz with my DCX 2496 and audyssey pro and confirmed with REW. It wouldn't be shpowing anything that hasn't already been shown before. they are very close to the Mal-x 21's with just a bit more output below 25hz and down.
Room is 14x35x8 with the HT part kept within 20 feet of the 35 and open to the rest of the basement. Subs are":
4 x IXL 18's in a IB
2 x mal-x 18's
2 x mal-x 21's
2 x FTW 21's

The ib is running off 2 ep4000's, the mal-x 18's have a bridged ep per driver and the 21's have each a channel off the 2 clones. Ep clip light were dancing with both the 21's. the Clones are ummm awesome? lol. I can eq to 15hz with no ill effects with the clones (probably lower but meh), heck they are barely running LOL.

A bridged ep will get you some serious output with the FTW's and only really clips on the heaviest scenes.
