Mark pays almost $50 just for the packaging for the 21's just a FYI. I know it sucks to wait but it's totally worth the wait!!! I know you guys look at the shipping and go "0.o" but half is packing materials. Nuts eh?

Yeah he told me the cost is right at $38 per crate alone, that doesnt include any packaging done in his facility. And I assume that is CAD.

ya he's over packing to make sure he doesn't have any shipping troubles this time like with the 18's at first. He said the first batch were crappy so he had to go with someone else, thus the price was higher than he wanted. I don't blame him to be over the top. 1 sent back driver would be 12 crates worth of expense. He's also paying a premium on the baskets for the 21's but once you see how beefy they are, you'll understand why they cost more. and ya it's CDN.

OH YEAH, I completely agree with everything he is doing and what youre saying! If the drivers cant make it to their destination then that was just a complete waste and loss of money!

And, yes, I was patiently waiting for your pics of the drivers. The basket is nowhere in the same league as any I've ever seen and I can tell that just from your pics alone. My Mals were so amazingly huge and awesome when I unboxed them but can tell I will have that feeling all over again times some!

Kinda reminds me of one of my other hobbies, RC helicopters, trucks, and buggies. When I got my Losi 5T (not me but shows size kinda well)

I was blown away even though I had spent many hours watching all the testing videos of preproduction trucks. When I opened it, even after fighting with the box's size, I was still floored by its massive size. I'm sure once the two pallets arrive I'll be grinning from ear to ear and my wife will be laughing at me, but when I open the crates she'll be taking pictures of me becuase I will most likely be speachless for a few momments there after.

N8Dogg so you did tone layer of gasket and then stacked anotherlayer of gasket tape on top to make the second layer?

Just wondering.

I stripped my hurricane washers and hated getting that driver out. SO for me never again will I use hurricane nuts. I used 1.5" deck screens on my dual opposed 15 setup and those screws weren't going anywhere.

Now with 21's I think 2" is perfect and I will be doing the same thing.

I hate hurricane nuts as well, they don't have that big of an holding advantage over wood screws to justify the headache. I actually think wood screws into ply wood might be better over time. They might have less of a chance to vibrate loose compared to the metal on metal of hurricanes.

Unless you get high quality ones that aren't made of junk steel.

(my home town is filled with nut and bolt suppliers to the oil and has industry so I can find some crazy fasteners that can handle some disgusting abuse)

oops I actually used #12 - 2" wood screws on thew FTW's lol the #8's were used on my mal-x 21's. The #12's were a perfect fit and sit flush to the basket because they are tapered. The 8's worked on the mal-x's but the FTW's have bigger holes on the basket.

When you get the FTW's you'll see why you may need more than 1 layer of gasket tap and you WILL need the gasket tape. I made the mistake of buying 1/4 inch when I should have got 3/4. So I did 2 strips side by side and then another strip on top of the 2. If you got proper 3/4, you'd just do 2 stacked and be done. it's just the way the holes are on the basket and the basket is not flat on the bottom like most that I've seen. None the less, I got perfect seals on both subs the first try.

I also will never use hurricane nuts again. I've had 1 too many times where I wanted to pull my hair out. I'd also recommend everyone use ply as the mounting board, it's just better that way. IMO.
I also finished building my 2 Dayton 15" DVC, 3 CF boxes yesterday, though I used mdf as the mounting board only because they don't have enough excursion to pull the screws out and I was too lazy to go to the store and get some ply lol

I've never used hurricane nuts. Bought some once, never used them. Not with the IXL 18," not with the tapped horns, not with anything. Decent wood screws and decent plywood to fasten them to has always been enough. Haven't had one work loose yet.

I'm getting excited! Have the first 4 sub enclosure about finished at 7 cuft for each and going to use a fp10000 for 2100 watts per driver. And, I'm finishing putting up the linacoustic on the walls tonight. And, the sony4k will arrive Tuesday. I'll have a theater finished minus the rest of my JTRs that I ordered 3+ weeks ago. Called Jeff at JTR today and he said shipping mid next week, the same as he said 3+ weeks ago. So we shall see!

Sounds awesome!!!. I wanted to get a 10Q for mine also with 7cuft but just cant afford the 10Q now. I am just going to use a Crest amp I have and that will just have to do for my pair for now.

Did you do a build thread on enclosures?

Yeah thats kinda kool. Jeff is a great guy but gets a little ahead of himself sometimes I think. I had to wait wihen I bought my first set of JTRS too. When did you decide to go with the sony 10000es? Mark here at AVS talked me into it about 3 weeks ago. Cant wait to see it on the 13' scope screen.

Well, lets just say I paid less than half of street and couldn't pass up the deal. I never had any interest in it to be honest. A friend of mine got one from his company as sales bonus (he does advertising for drug companys) and he has no need for it. He doesn't need the money so he offered it to me 11K for a projector of this caliber is a freaking steal! I'm still not sure if I should just sell it! I could make a pretty damn good profit. He's cool with me doing whatever so it wouldn't matter to him one way or the other

Boy, the IXL 18.2.2 look sweet for my current project. I made the mistake of using 12" drivers and a plate amp..... Not this time. For $220.00 thats a hell of a deal?

Any idea when they will be in stock....
