He doesn't need the money so he offered it to me 11K for a projector of this caliber is a freaking steal! I'm still not sure if I should just sell it! I could make a pretty damn good profit. He's cool with me doing whatever so it wouldn't matter to him one way or the other

WOW!!!

If you wanna get rid of it I'll be more than happy to take it off your hands for a dual setup. EEEEK!

How hard do you all think it will be to mount these into an enclosure vertically?

I want to start on my baffle wall but the enclosure for these will need to be put in place in order to build the wall. I did buy a few rolls of gasket tape

O yuckers, I'd not want to mount them vertically but as long as you had someone behind holding the magnet, it may not be too bad. I just remember doing my IB like that and it sucked enough for me to never do it again lol.

That is gonna be one freaking awesome room though!!!!!

Thanks a bunch! Its been quite the headache!

LOL no magnet holding available as the boxes are sealed enclosures. I didnt think it sounded like a doable mount but thought I'd ask. I didnt even think of attempting mounting the Mals vertically. I cant imagine how hard its gonna be to tip this box over and move it I even if I dont mount vertically either! EEEK!

Alright I just added up the weight of the box according to google of 96lbs per sheet of 3/4" mdf. The box alone will weigh just over 300lbs. Add 4 subs at what (55-65lbs? cant find a spec) and your talking 500+lbs. We would need to turn the box over on its side after mounting them straight down. That should be doable shouldnt it? Three or four people should be able to turn it over shouldnt they? Not raising it the tall way but just over on its side. Turning from 28 inches high over to the 24.5" high side.

Other option would be to build a jig with a slight curve in it to mount them horizontal that way all the weight would be resting on something but would still need to have a lot of force pushing the driver into the hole while screwing it into the cabinet.

How would yall do it? LOL me and the wife are trying to figure this out.

Flipping the box over will be easy, but getting it set will be dead weight. I think 4 men could do it. I've had to move my huge sub boxes a few times and they were 300lbs+ per box, up stairs and crap. We used those neck straps and it really wasn't that bad. At least you only need to tilt it and not lift dead weight.
Install the drivers straight down as normal, wouldn't wanna screw up your prize possessions. Then get a few guys to deaflift/military press to the standing position on top of some furniture sliders (maybe using double sided tape or Velcro?) then maneuver wherever you want it to go.

Hey audiovideo, did you get the drivers yet?
After ready this thread I've decided I am going to purchase a mach 5 sub system.

My thoughts
* behringer ep4000 - power
* eq need assistance on

Sub either 2 18 ixl or one 18 uxl.

Goal - low frequency high split in the smallest box.

What would you recommend

I don't know about avh but I'm driverless

Yes he did. I had spoken with him via pm. Crazy everything thats going on.
Yeah I got mine. They actually arrived faster than I thought from Canada. Once they finally shipped it only took like 3 days.

Two of the boxes had huge holes in them but the drivers seem ok. I'll have them into the enclosures within a week so will know for sure. Finishing up the second enclosure now. All sides are 1.5" thick with medium bracing.

Matt

I was at Marks on Saturday picking up a 15" IXL for my living room sub (that he found at the storage place) and he was building a 21" and had 1 or 2 in boxes ready to ship out. I got to check out the coil winder and am likely gonna grab 2 more 21"s and am going to help build my own this time

Just make sure you free air test them before you put them into your boxes1 I've made that mistake before LOL

Nice drivers eh?

A friend of mine and I moved my speakers which weighed 550lbs each loaded together by carrying them.
You won't have any problem with that.

Carpet still hasnt came in from special order so have a few days to get them into their places. Should finish the enclosures tomo early in the day but after n8 said that about free airing them I dont know if I should put them in yet or not. I will have to give the PL premium 3 days to fully cure before playing them if put them in the enclosures so dont know what to do now. Kind of caught me off gaurd as I've never broke in speakers or worried about them enough to run free air. And, I only have some QSC 3602s and a QSC 2450 right now. My wife is going to order an FP14000 for a temp amp. Then I'll sell it and buy two FP10000s.

Nice drivers eh?

What should I listen for when free airing them? And, I'm not going to have enough power to break them in so would just test them and unhook.

Yeah they are beefy. I ordered the gasket tape right after you posted about it and can clearly see why it will be needed.

Just to make sure they are not making any strange mechanical noises and they survived the shipping. You will know pretty damn quick if something is wrong. The last dayton HO I put in, it's spider wasn't glued at all anywhere on the driver!!!! I couldn't believe it was just sitting there with no glue anywhere lol. I took it to work and glued it myself and she's good as new! lol
You don't really need to break them in anyway, playing movies will do that

BTW I tried out the 1000es and it's insane. The PQ is something I've never seen in a house before. I did decide to sell it though, got 10K over what I paid! As much as I loved it, I just don't use my HT enough to warrant that much of a projector on a 108" screen. I love overkill but that was WAY overkill for my current area. I guess i could have kept it for my next place but then I'd have a 1-2 year old projector and I'd want the latest and greatest lol
I understand how awesome it will look and you are a lucky bugger lol

Thats good to hear about the 1000! And yeah a small screen isnt worth that type of pj. I only got it because of the light output. The 4kk is just a bonus! I'm just waiting on the carpet to be installed at this point. I'm finishing up on the enclosures right now so drivers are going in tonight. Just waiting on my wife to finish feeding the baby way I can turn the boxes up right. Next time they are moved they will need a bit more than my wife and I.

Well my father in law and I managed to get the enclosures into place with a little creativity. Will post pics later.

N8, Have you noticed how much thinner the actual cones feel than the Mals?

The surrounds feel good but the cones feel a like lower quality although I have no idea about what makes a quality cone!

I've never noticed but I did have one in my hand at Marks on Saturday and was playing with it. Looked and felt like any other cone, I didn't think it was thin or anything but I did tell him how sweet it would be to have the sexy UXL cones on there. It's not going to happen though lol

Yikes!

Ordered one FP10000 220v today and think I talked my wife into ordering another tomorrow. I wont have quite the power as Not is pushing to his 18s but 10 21s with around 2000 watts each in larger enclosures should give him a run for the money.

Its going to be interesting trying to get the linacoustic cut to fit perfect around each driver. May take my time if it ends up looking good after a couple but if it doesnt look good I'll just piece it together since they wont be scene 99% of the time anyway.

I am Jealous!!!...... I am hoping to have 2 channels of a 10Q power my pair hopefully by Julr 4th. But we will see.
