The room is 18x31 in front of the baffle wall 18x35 total. I have two mal x 21s that will go in there as well but the room is still being completed.

Well you could do 10-12cuft....but we have all established that 5-7cuft is the best average of performance and protection.

When I was at Marks a few weeks ago, the cones were either shipping or had been shipped, that's all he is waiting on I'm pretty sure. I'd think they would be close to getting to him if not already. He got a bit of a crappy deal. He build houses will only do huge runs of parts and if you can't afford to buy the whole run, you have to wait for other companys to fill up the order so they will do the run. So you have to play the waiting game. It sucks but, it's just the way she goes.

i was checking these out the last time I was at Marks and they are gonna be unreal. Huge slugs, nice cones, all the good stuff. I think He must have needed something to do while he waited for parts for the UXL's lol. Mark said that a lot of guys wanted this type of sub, he listened and built it. The link is a teaser and more info will be coming shortly!

With enough power couldn't a smaller box (4 ft^3) yield comparable low end performance with higher SPL up top, while maintaining the same excursion protection?

I'm curious to know how much the required power plays a part in determining the 7 ft^3 as the sweet spot for this driver.

It matches up well with around 2000 watts which just happen to be what the fp10000 clone is rated at. That is why I chose just under 7cuft. If I wanted to use the fp14k clone I would have had to of put them in a 4-4.5cuft enclosure which had me worried about thermal protection of the driver. Its really just matching the enclosure to the amp not the enclosure alone.

Scott Simonian mentioned you could have wired two drivers per channel for an 8ohm load, bridged, sparing you the purchase of a second amp. Did you get to try it.?

2kw will be fine in 7cuft for the FTW-21. ~4cuft you could go 4,400w per driver if thats the case.

I have each driver on each channel. Bridging will give me the same power but less per driver if ran 8 on one amp so just running stereo. 8ohms bridged and 4ohm stereo are the same output. I need three amps to drive all 10 of the drivers though. I would def need bigger boxes if I were to ohave ran all 8 off one amp then the remaining two drivers would still need an amp. I can easily clip the amps with 4 channel stereo at 4ohms. They run out of power well before the speakers limits.

Thanks guys. I just finished reading through AVH's thread. about the clones. Lot's of good points made.

I'm modeling up some enclosure ideas - even if I wanted to go for 4 ft, the resulting box would have to be awfully squat front to back.

You say 2,000, but in reality it is a little more than that, right? The FP1KQ clone lists 2,100 watts at 4Ω and 2,500 at 2Ω. With the Re of the FTW-21 at 3.2Ω, the driver is seeing something closer to 2,260 watts. I'm not trying to split hairs, I'm just making sure I'm understanding correctly.

This is making sense now... you were planning to make use of two FP1KQ's for your 8 FTW's. For my purposes, with only two FTW's planned, I ought to be thinking about the amplifier before setting my sights on a particular enclosure volume. The FP600Q clone looks pretty suitable with 3kW x 2 at 4Ω bridged. A 5.5ft box would put xmax at just over 5hz and 40mm at 3.5hz.

Impedance is not flat, it has a curve. There is only a very small area that is as low as the rated Re.
