Dinosaurs: Giants of Patagonia & The Ultimate Wave Tahiti (IMAX)

Overview:

THE ULTIMATE WAVE TAHITI plunges you into the stunning beauty of an island paradise on a quest to find the perfect wave-riding experience. Ten-time world surfing champion Kelly Slater and Tahitian surfer Raimana Van Bastolaer and a group of friends seek out the best waves breaking on the reef at Tahiti's famed surf site Teahupo'o. As their quest unfolds, you are plunged beneath the surface of things, to explore the hidden forces at work shaping ocean waves and the islands that lie in their path. Amidst surfing action, you navigate the cosmos and an ocean storm in a search for the source and nature of a wave's energy. Exploring mountainous Tahiti, you are thrust into the turbulent volcanic past of the island and its neighbors and discover the seagoing, wave-riding roots of the islanders themselves a culture still rich in the music, dance and lore of the sea. Beneath the ocean, swimming with surfers, you explore the stunning, fragile beauty of the reef habitat a turbulent, wave-shaping interface that envelops the island and nurtures the ocean's multitudes in motion fish, dolphins, sharks and whales. When the truly big surf arrives at Teahupo'o, surfing play becomes surfing survival as the riders artfully tackle some of the heaviest surf on the planet!

DINOSAURS: GIANTS OF PATAGONIA focuses on the history, evolution and extinction of the dinosaurs. In larger-than-life fashion, you will explore a subject matter whose mystique and appeal are unquestioned. Dinosaurs are amongst the most fascinating animals to have ever walked the Earth. We are captivated by their enormous size and intrigued by the fact that they disappeared millions of years ago. DINOSAURS: GIANTS OF PATAGONIA will take you on an unprecedented and unique journey into the world of the largest known dinosaurs and, in the process, explore some of the great paleontological discoveries of modern time. Done in close collaboration with the foremost scientists of the domain, the movie will show never seen before computer generated footage of the Giganotosaurus and the Argentinosaurus to name a few. At the moment of initiating this extraordinary project, one question comes to mind: "Is your screen big enough?" --Narrated by Donald Sutherland

My Thoughts:

Image Entertainment is really embracing the 3D Blu-ray format. In late 2010 they brought us Dinosaurs Alive!, Grand Canyon Adventure: River at Risk and Wild Ocean, all of which have been in heavy rotation on my 3D display. Dinosaurs: Giants of Patagonia & The Ultimate Wave Tahiti looked amazing, with a great 3D Depth (Onscreen) and Dimension (Beyond the screen). Both releases are visual treats as well as engaging and informative documentary's. I highly recommend anyone with a 3D display grab copies of these as well as the earlier batch of Image's 3D IMAX releases.

Both of these titles are also being featured on the 3Net 3D channel via DirecTV.

Lee,

How come there's no score on these? Just curious.

I purchased the Ultimate Wave Tahiti 3D and can't say I'm to impressed. It was shot with 3D over kill. For example a shot of a 6ft person that appears to have 12 ft arms or a shot of car where the hood looks 20 ft long. And there is very little surfing. There is not much 3D out there and this disk is cheap but I wish I'd saved my money.

I have Giants of Patagonia and its a good 3D presentation. I've heard good things about Tahiti too and will be watching it in a few days. It'll be interesting to see what 3D surfing looks like on a 120" screen.

I found Tahiti to have some breathtaking 3D shots, and be a pretty good documentary as well.
