THANK YOU!!!

that's what I was looking for. I had seen it mentioned there and elsewhere a while back but didn't think much of it. Wasn't until I read through this thread that I realised this might be an important bit of information. For the life of me I couldn't find it.....

Now Here is a thought. Is it possible some people are getting varying results with lag "even when they turn off truemotion" because when it's turned off in 3D your trading for another evil lag inducing feature (actually I don't think it's evil, it's great) but might explain when someone get's more or less lag depending if truemotion is off and they are in either 2D or 3D mode.

Watching in 2D
Trumotion on = introduction of additional processing = induced lag
Trumotion off = reduction in processing = reduced lag

Watching in 3D
Trumotion on = introduction of additional processing = induced lag
Trumotion off = the enabling of a none optional algorithm with unknown effects on performance = X????

Question becomes, what effect if any does this non optional algorithm have on lag.

As mentioned above, in reading all these posts, I have found that peoples mileage would vary in respect to lag. I am wondering if this is perhaps one of the unknown variables that affected lag inducement or at the least variability in results. Of course we don't know what effect if any this has on performance. But I thought it might be an interesting conversation.

Perhaps this bears testing.

Thanks for posting this, but it's still not an official LG statement though. I have tried watching 3d with truemotion on and off, and the only real difference I see is a reduction of edge jagginess with it on. This can even be seen with the video paused. I don't notice a drop in resolution though. Still, for most 24p content I don't think you want truemotion on anyhow right? Unless you want soap opera effect....

I guess the First thing to do once I get my TV is to Program my Logitech One remote to get to Service Menu and then make adjustments. I have notes so far about the THX Easter Egg and I'll try to grab any info else you guys Post here.

Thanks again

I just got mine a couple weeks ago. I have been reading this thread for month now but did not take notes. Now I may have to re-read all those pages over again.

Would be grateful if you could post your notes (tip sheet) here.

The target price LG has hit with these sets makes them A clear "Best Buy"

Agreed!

I don't know where the reviewer who posted the above figure got those details either because it is not supported by any LG documentation anywhere. What you also have to realize is that even by that diagram, every other line is always going to be black to each eye. That figure is basically saying it is flashing alternating odd/even 540 lines but it is still only using the odd 540 to the left and the even 540 to the right. Not sure what benefit is seen from "mushing" both the odd and even lines together but doing so in the same 540 lines all the time in each eye. You would think that all that'd do is produce a blurring effect where you've averaged the odd/even lines and you are still displaying them in the same 540 visible lines. The other 540 are still always black.

Here are some of the things I made Notes about. They mainly just General Info other guys have posted here.

1) Turn OFF Energy Saver if you don't like the Auto Dimming this function creates.

2) Password for to enter Service Menu if you Program a Universal Remote is 0413
Link to Harmony Remote Hack: http://harmonylghack.wikispaces.com/

3) If you do unlock THX in Service Menu here is are Possible Settings:

Backlight: 50
Contrast: 83
Brightness: 51
H. Sharpness: 50
V. Sharpness: 50
Color: 53
Tint: 0

Under Advanced:
Dynamic Contrast: Off
Noise Reduction: Low
Super Resolution: Off
MPEG Noise Reduction: Off
Black Level: Low
Color Gamut: Standard
Edge Enhancer: Off
Color Filter: Off
Color Temperature: Warm
Gamma: 1.9
Method: 10 Point IRE
Pattern: Outer
IRE: 100
Luminance: 200
All the rest: 0

4) To attempt to fix "clouding" loosen local bezel screws and tap/wipe with microfiber cloth to attempt to smooth clouding out.

5) Good TruMotion adjustment is setting of De-Judder=3 and De-Blur=0.

6) If you see Flicker in 3D mode try setting Trumotion to High or Low based on your eye.

7) If you see "Grainy Picture" try "Noise Reduction" setting even at "High"

8) If you using Optical Cable Out to a Receiver activate AC3 though the Service Menu. Press Start on the AC3 EDID D/L Menu this gives you Dolby Digital 5.1 Output to your Receiver,

9) Best way to see if you have Light Bleeding is to go to an Input on TV that not not being used and check out how the "Blackness" looks.

The last thing that I will say for me Personally. After "tinkering" with Visual Settings so far to "My eye" is to use Standard Setting on the TV and then adjust Back Light and Contrast setting in "Standard" to the Setting that "Vivid" uses.

That just a few things that I keep in a Note for Reference.

How do you completely disable the simple link input thing? I really hate that it pops up when I'm starting my blu ray or xbox and I'm not ready to switch to it yet.

i am trying to connect my 5.1 surround sound speakers but i really don't know how and the manual doesn't really tell me anything, so if anyone knows how to connect it can you please share it.

thanks

I just ordered a pair of Energy RC10 Speakers to go with my 55LW6500 from Vanns for a cool price, free shipping, no tax and they will be here Thursday. Great reviews on the RC10s in the speaker forums here.

Are your Speakers coming from a Receiver? Does your Speakers have a Optical Input?

After a few weeks of tinkering with my 6500 I simply tweaked it from the vivid setting and it suits me just fine . The tv has so much adjustability built into it that u could literally drive yourself crazy looking for the perfect picture... I haven't watched a 3d movie yet but I will soon enough .. I've watched some Espn 3d thru directv and it looked great.

Someone mentioned earlier in the forum that an update is to come tomorrow (dec 20). Does anyone know what the update is actually for?

LG doesn't even tell us what is in those updates after they come out. That's a bit of optimism there, thinking we might know what's in an update before it even comes out.

I don't think it is a firmware upgrade for the tv, per se, but rather an update to the LG Live TV system, based on my reading of the note that pops up in the menus.

So a few weeks ago I started noticing extremely excessive light bleed in a couple of the corners. I posted pictures in this thread if you want to try to find them. So I called LG. They agreed to get the TV repaired and gave me contact info for the repair company they use. It is called ITI Worldwide. I hope for your guys sake that you never have to deal with this company. They are AWFUL. First when you call you can only be on hold for 4 minutes. Then they force you to leave a voicemail which they never return the call. I finally got ahold of this company and they tell me to take pictures of the TV and email them with the pictures. Then they will call me in 2 days to let me know what they plan to do. Never get a call from them. 10 days later I get a call from a tech from another company to schedule an appointment to repair the TV.

Fast forward to today. Tech comes. Replaces both of the logic boards on the TV. Surprise surprise plug in the TV and it has made zero difference. I don't know why they bothered replacing the logic boards when the panel itself seems like the most likely culprit. So the tech calls in to this ITI Worldwide. They tell him since the parts did nothing he has to pull the new ones out and put the old ones back in. Tech wasn't too happy about that but he did it. Then ITI has me take more pictures and email them and they will supposedly call me back in 2 days. I'm betting I never hear from them again!

I'm not happy with this whole process. I'm guessing the next step will be to replace the panel. I tried calling LG to see if I can just get a refund on this TV and be done with it but they said the only way that will happen is they either have to make 3 failed attempts to repair, or they have to replace all the parts that are replaceable on the TV without it solving the problem before I can go down that road. So I think probably after they replace the panel there will be nothing else for them to try to replace.

Out of all this long, drawn out process I've learned a few things.

1. I will never own an edge lit TV again.
2. I will never own another LG product again because their so called customer service is horrible
3. Regardless of the outcome of this whole deal this TV will not remain in my house. IF they are able to properly fix it I will sell the TV on craigslist. If they can't I'm getting a refund and going with a different TV. Probably a plasma of some sort.

Thanks for taking the time to read this! I don't mean to sound like a complainer but this whole ordeal has been completely unacceptable to me. I hope that no one else has the problems with this TV and this company like I have. I will be sure to keep you guys updated as this deal is on going.

Just another update for everyone. I finally got sick of waiting on iti to call me again so I called them this morning. They decided that the TV needs a new panel (duh). They have the panel on order and the tech will call me when it comes in. So hopefully it won't take long to get it, that way I can get some kind of resolution to this.

My panel replacement is going to happen tomorrow. Hopefully all goes well, I will put out an update in a couple of days.

I got mine from Amazon because I have Prime and got 2 day "white glove" shipping for Free plus besides the 4 3D glasses that come with the TV Amazon had a Family 6 pack package of Glasses for Free. But I found a better price at Newegg and Amazon Price Matched it...

Hi,

I accessed the service menu but I do not see an option for 'AC3 EDID D/L' but I do have 'EDID D/L'.

I ran that process but still are not getting AC3 via the digital audio cable output (only option is Auto or PCM).

Is there a trick to enabling this?

Here is a Picture of Service Menu Options. You should have the PCM EDID D/L and AC3 EDID D/L options. You don't have these?

Is yours a US set? Otherwise, it should be the same as mine, non-US and have the exact options that you see.

Just set to Auto and see if it works for u.
Hi,

It is an Australian set (if that makes a difference) I only have the EDID D/L option. I am using the 0413 password, tried from both the TV and HDMI inputs.

Possibly one of the other settings is incorrect, hiding the other EDID options?

I have just ordered a Onkyo NR609 receiver, hopefully I will have better luck via HDMI ARC, though I would like to get the Digital Audio working.

Any suggestions welcome.
