LG PASSIVE LW6500 dedicated thread... - Page 68

Guys I have trawled so much through these forums but yet to find an answer:
Anyone can give me what they have set their colour configs to, as I know the out of box colours are not up to par! (Both 2d and 3d)

Thanks!

I can honestly say that passive 3D is much better than active. Having both passive and active sets, I have tested both.. Passive hands down has less ghosting, produces much better depth and popout and even looks better.

I make 3D movies and am currently working on a few new ones adding extreme depth and popout and my LG passive does it with ease and looks good. My Sony LX-900 active set shows so much ghosting when I make the 3D extreme with my software.

I noticed a similar message yesterday, but my set still says it's at 4.02.28 (I never did the manual firmware update to .62.) In other words, it said it did an update, but the TV indicates the same firmware, so it doesn't seem like it actually updated.

Did your set auto update to .62?

Thanks,

I waited about 3 weeks for mines to auto update and it didn't. So I did the update via flash drive from the lg website. Interestingly enough tho yesterday I went into my apps and it said new software detected and installed. But given that i manually installed .62 a few days ago it was a moot point for me. I don't know why it takes lg so long to push updates to the sets. The latest one has been out at least a month.

There are 2 different software updates for the LG LW series. The one everyone saw recently would have been the Apps updates software. The main firmware was not updated. When you see Software updated message, that is the Premium and Apps stuff only. A firmware update would go across the screen in a download box and restart the TV. The Apps update does not. Hope that clears any confusion out there still.

In the service menu, there's the option for Local Dimming. In there you can download something. My questions are, download what? and will it brick my set? Also, has anyone figured why ac3 pass-through has such lag? When watching cable, there's is considerable lag. If I run the audio direct to my receiver, there is no lag.

This is my first post...
First i would like to say that everyone on here is so amazingly helpful, its unbelievable!

Secondly, the android App to open the service menu works so well, i could literally cry tears of joy. After sifting through this forum, trying to use my hacked psp, thinking i will eventually have to buy a special remote, I got the app, and it works like effing Magic!
If ANYONE needs help with that app, please let me know, I would be so glad to help any of you kind people one here!.

Lastly, now that I am in the service menu, ALL I WANT right now is to be able to enable 5.1 dolby digital surround to pass through my optical output to my receiver! I think its
11. PCM EDID
12. AC3 EDID
?
what do i do? LOL
Thanks guys.......

Would u happen to know if the android app is similar to the iPhone app. I have the iPhone app but I don't think it opens the service menu. At least I haven't tried to get it to ...

I wish I could tell you, but I'm not an iPhone user. If the app is called "LG service menu explorer" by underground lab, then it should be the same thing. I can't get over how easy it is to use. No infrared involved, it uses your TV's connection to your wireless router to work. Maybe post a couple pictures and I can make a suggestion?

By the way, I think I found the answer to my question about how to enable Dolby digital pass through with optical out. If you scroll back to post #897 you will see the answer.
Basically I just need to enable AC3 and it'll work. Anyone else who has done this care to weigh in on the matter?

Yeah, I did it on my LW5600; piece of cake! Just enter the AC3 menu and click "Start."

I saw brand new a 55" LW6500 on closeout at BB for $1499 today; was sorely tempted to pick it up but I'm curious about the 2012 models and if the 3D picture quality is improved in any way.

I tried it, but there was noticible lip sync error when on audio that had gone from my DVR through the TV to the receiver. I went back to the factory setting and reconnected the DVR to the receiver.

More value was the ability to add picture settings for THX (in both regular and 3D) and THX Bright Room in 2D. While these settings may have not been certified, they are my preferred settings for viewing. I believe that somewhere in this forum, the actual details of the settings are listed so that you can simulate them in your own custom settings. However, its very convenient to just be able to call them out and still have custom settings available for experiment.

Which BB store did you see that at?
Thanks.

On the lip sync, last nite i disabled the to two EQ settings in the Service Menu and adjusted the sync to -5, the max (i think) in the Sound menu. You should try the C-Net settings, tweaked them a lil bit, looks great.

Liberty Tree Mall, Danvers, MA

As far as I could tell it was the last one in the store; looked to still have the original sealing tape on the box but I always get a little leery when its the last one and the box has just been left standing in the middle of the store for who knows how long.

Question, can I use pretty much any remote to enable the service menu? Or does it need to be a special one. People mention an $8 RCA remote but I live in Japan and not much selection besides expensive or cheap ones.
I am hoping a nice cheap one can do the job?

On the 47" and 55" matte screen... what are you guys using to clean these suckers???

If you have a Android phone or tab, get the app
post #2032 of 2467
I could be wrong but I could've sworn I saw somewhere where it says to spritz water on the screen and wipe with a clean cloth/t shirt
post #2033 of 2467
And that it specifically said NOT to use any cleaning chemicals on the screen

No Android phone, just an iPhone 4S

First of all, I own a 47LW6500 model. I used the android app to go into the service menu and enable the AC3. FINALLY my xfinity dvr seems to pass through HDMI to TV and then out through optical to Kenwood 5.1 receiver, in full Dolby digital 5.1. I couldn't be happier.
Second note, I have not experienced any lip synch issues, mine seems to be on par.
Third note, I did the manual update to 4.02.62 by visiting log.com, placing it on a USB flash drive, and applying it that way. Literally two hours before I was trying to dial in settings to reduce the dreaded input lag this TV has with gaming on my ps3. I had written lg an email complaining about this about a month before. Just out of curiosity I applied the update. It definitely without a doubt improved input lag. I'm not.convinced that its instantaneous yet, but I was able to play call of duty and it played very well. You be the judge. If you haven't done the manual update but would like to, try gauging input lag before, and then after.
You guys are the best! Thank you all..

I wish the iPhone had the same app as the android. Anyway, I also get Dolby 5.1 from my directv receiver and my ps3 by using optical out on my 55lw6500, but I have to use a optical to RCA adapter since my kenwood receiver only has RCA inputs, but even so it kicks ass for a 10 year old receiver..all the sound from my external sources HAS to pass thru my tv anyway so that's why I used the optical out on my tv.i have noticed minor audio mis sync at times, but it's very minor, depending on the program, but it's within my tolerance level. I also did a manual update to .62, I'm not a gamer but my kids are and out of curiosity I will have them play COD MW3 and they can tell me if there is any lag. They have the game for Xbox 360 and ps3. All in all love my tv. Im sure u feel the same about your 47lw6500

Alright I bought a universal remote, it can be set up to work my TV. But I am damn lost on how to get this code crap and access the service menu.
The things all in Japanese, the moron at the store said I can enter the data and assign a button but my wife said it can only be set to control the TV.

What in gods name do I do to set this dumb thing to access the menu?!

The site says,

Using a Data enabled remote controller, program it to send the following codes using the NEC format, and assign them to buttons of your choice:
IN_START: 04 FB FB
EZ_ADJUST: 04 FB FF
POWERONLY: 04 FB FE

My remote can only take 5 numbers and why are there letters?! I am so lost and kinda pissed at the moment because Japanese store people don't know jack **** about products they sell.

Thanks, Tony. I called them, but the sku number was for 55lw5600. Who knows if they have any clue. Appreciate the prompt relpy.

No problem; FWIW, I didn't look at the box closely but the handwritten sign definitely said 6500 and listed the original MSRP as $3299.

I've decided to wait for the 2012 models and go for either the LM6700 (120hz) or LM7600 (240hz) as I've read that, among other things, the 2012 models have improved 2D>3D functionality and they should be arriving sometime this month.

Has anyone else seen/resolved this?!?

Thanks...
