LG PASSIVE LW6500 dedicated thread... - Page 79

The below problem I was able to fix by changing my input label on the TV from PC to DVD. If you know of another way to get trumotion on a PC to work on this tv, i'm interested to know.

How do i get TruMotion out of an LG LW6500 from a PC? It always works on PS3 or TV, but with my PC I haven't seen the feature available for a long time, it is always greyed out. I tried changing the refresh rate of the display to 30hz based on someone saying it doesn't work in 60hz mode and then sure enough it worked, but I don't think it makes sense that it would never work in 60hz mode because I am almost certain I had it working that way once or twice before. I tried experimenting with game mode and ifs expert mode but I can't get it back on and I really miss the smoothness I get out of my games with TruMotion on. I am using an HDMI cable and I have tried various resolutions.

I haven't gone into the advanced settings under THX but can I assume that the "Real Cinema" is already activated under both THX modes or do I need to hack and turn it on? I only ask because I noticed last night that the advanced settings wasn't available so I couldn't look to see if it was on.

If I'm not mistaken when u unlock the advanced settings for THX3D the values that come up are the same values that are available under expert 1 and expert 2 under the regular picture settings. Of course they can be changed and adjusted also. I will check later and post pics..

I DL'd the .pdf of the manual which is somewhat of a coverall for many different LG models and what they are showing is that this panel will swivel about 20 degees but honestly, looking at the stand...Im not seeing it. I will only have about 2" on each side of the TV and getting to the cables might be a bit testly without some movement on the stand. My question is...does it swivel at all on that stand?

Thanks

@Diehard Yes, the 65LW6500 swivels. I have a similar issue and can get to it just fine.

Disregard my last photo. It's a screen shot of THX3D user option.. Also, I haven't had the time to mess around with the advanced options so what you see in the photos are the default values

Worked with my RCA remote. I don't know if u will need to try one of the other two codes u have from your droid app... But start with 8741... Gd luck

Hi,

I went to my service menu and changed the THX 3D option from 0 to 1, but the THX option still does not show up in my Picture section. I still only have THX Cinema and THX Bright screen. I was trying to input 8741 in some different screens, but it didn't do anything. Am I missing something? On which screen do I specifically need to enter it? BTW, I am unlocking my tv with a Harmony remote.

Thanks.

Make sure when u change the THX value from 0 to 1 its locked in. Sometimes when u back out of that screen it doesn't take it. It's happened to me. Also, when you're trying to bring up THX3D make sure your set is in 3D mode.. I know that sounds trivial but I'm assuming you're doing it from that screen. If you are then you should see the option for THX3D .. I'm not familiar with the harmony remote. I use a RCA remote, and once I chance my THX3D value from 0 to 1 in my service menu THX3D automatically comes up in my "set 3D picture"option when I'm looking at a 3d program or watching 2d to 3d. ...

I tried various resolutions too including that one but it doesn't fix it. However, on an unrelated issue i heard of people changing their input labels for an unrelated reason, and i thought i'd try changing my input label from PC to DVD on the TV since my PS3 works with trumotion, and then that let me turn trumotion on. I think it's illogical that LG would require this step to get trumotion on for a PC. i sure hope a firmware update doesn't mess things up for me later on.

Setting the label to pc or game turns off all of the tvs special processors, such as trumotion. This in turn speeds up the response time. With it labeled pc you have no option to turn on trumotion

So I just learned on page 78 that the LM has resolution upscaler and LW doesn't.

Isn't this kind of a big deal?

Sony and Mitusbishi HDTVs from 2005 upscaled all incoming to the display's native resolution. But the 2011 LG LWs can't?

Does this mean if the incoming signal is 720p or 1080i that's exactly what is displayed on screen?

Who'd be happy sitting in fron of their LW watching an interlaced image?

I'd really like some more details on what exactly this "new" resolution upscaler feature does, and what the LW series is lacking?

I would think you would miss the lack of substantial lag by moving away from the Gaming Input...

JMO though....

The LW6500's have a feature called Super Resolution which I believe pretty much does the same thing. The LM series may call it Resolution Upscaler but LG never says it upscales the resolution in the description they instead say it "enhances the resolution of original content to a higher resolution." Clever wording on their part.

all led/lcd tvs upscale/downscale input to suit native resolution ,as for the difference between lm\\lw series tv's? well imho, not much apart from lm looking a bit prettier than lw,i have an 55lw6500 and a recently purchased 42LM6700 still cant get service menu on lm though

I thought the LW6500 does not have dual play capability while the LM6200 does. That would be a minor difference between the two.

Modify the 3D glasses of the LW6500 and then you will have a dual play TV. It's real easy to do.

I've noticed occasional posts that mention sync issues when LW6500 series TVs are being used for games. However I have a sync issue when my 47LW6500 is just being used for normal cable programs. I've gone into setup, turned AV sync on and changed the TV speaker delay to -5. That helps, but it doesn't eliminate the problem. A setting closer to -10 would probably be better, but I can't go below -5.

My Motorola DCX3400 set-top box from Comcast is connected by a new HDMI cable to the LG. The DCX3400 doesn't appear to have a sync adjustment.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Got my 65LW6500 from Onecall and its up and running. Its really impressive. Thanks to Faxman and Goodad for the info on the swivel which it indeed does have and given the room I have...it was a must. I found a way to access the Service Menu using my Comcast remote and found out for myself why they didnt make the stuff in there readily available.....most of it sucks, at least when dickering with you picture quality. All the THX settings are too dark...I mean if I wanted a darker screen with a trade off of better color, I'd have bought a plasma and saved myself a few hundred bucks. I was looking for a brighter picture and the LG delivers this but certainly not in any of the THX modes. The local dimming on the other hand is a pretty nice addition....not sure why they left that out. Overall, Im really pleased with my purchase and glad I went bigger. Oh, and BTW.....Gooddad, your right.....this thing is a beast. Much bigger, bulkier and heavier than what I was expecting but now that its in place I just gotta hope nothing goes wrong with it. smile.gif

For the last few days, when I go into the apps to watch some Netflix, it says "Update found... Something." something....."

Anyone else see this?
