Anyone else see this?

Not on my LG, but I got a notice from Samsung (re: my BD player) which states: "We are sending you this email today to inform you of an upcoming scheduled maintenance of the Netflix service that is available on your Samsung device. This outage may affect your ability to register new Netflix devices on June 12th between 11:30 PM PST and 11:45 PM PST. We expect new device registration to be restored after that time, and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you"

55LW5700 vs. 47LW6500

I need your opinion on this one guys, least sale price currently for the 55LW5700 is $1150 vs. $950 for the 47LW6500. For sure bigger is better, and the glossy LW6500 is already a deterrent factor, but assuming everything else is the same, my question is there a noticeable effect for 120hz vs. 240hz when it comes to passive 3D ?

I have read several articles about how active shutter 3D makes a better a use of the increased refresh rate for less ghosting and less flicker, but these are not issues to start with with passive 3D ?

In theory LG True 3D as it attempts to display full image per each eye would make a better use of increased refresh rate, but the real question is ... would that be really noticeable ?

Additionally, as newer doesn't always mean better, is there any other perks you guys know about that the 5700 has which is missing on the 6500 (does the 6500 have an IPS panel, local dimming) ?

Thanks in advance

yes,240hz/200hz makes a difference to the 3d,if you are referring to the 65" 6500 it has a different display panel to the smaller 6500's and also is 120hz(in the US) not sure if it has local dimming enabled or not ,IMO PQ is not quite as good as the smaller 5600/5700/6500 series , i was going to get the 65" but after comparing it with the 55" i went for the smaller screen i paid Au$1700 for the 55" at the time i purchased the going rate for the 65lw6500 was AU$2900 so it was not a hard decision to make:)

I finally got around to placing a warranty call on my 55LW6500. Not only does it have moderate DSE (dirty screen effect), but it has several quarter sized light and dark blotches, the worst one being a light blotch almost in the center of the screen. I just got the call that LG is replacing my set, not repairing it since these particular panels aren't made anymore.

Thinking about an 8600 for replacement once I get credit. It will be a $300 upgrade, hopefully worth it.

Rob - This dirty screen effect, did it look like there was residue on the screen that you couldn't clean off? How bad were the light and dark sploteches? My set has pretty bad backlight bleeding and a few rounds spots of light very noticable when the screen is dark.

Hello guys,
I would be grateful if any one can tell me the dimensions (W X D) of the stand that comes with the 47LW6500 I have looked online and all specs gives the dimensions of the TV with the stand so I lose the stand width.
TIA

Thanks for the reply, I was just reading the updated review on 3D playback of these sets and apparently to make use of the new algorithm you need to disable truemotion so I am guessing after all 240 vs 120 wont make a difference for 3D because you will be running on 60hz (with truemotion disabled)

The DSE looks worst with solid colours and animated movies. It looks like vertical banding/streaking. I don't think it's anything that can be cleaned off, it's just how the screen is. The backlight bleeding isn't too bad on my set, but there is some. The worst blotch is almost in the center of the screen and can be seen in certain situations, but not always. If you really want to see how good or bad your screen is, connect a computer to it and put on a solid grey background.

I bought this TV for the 3D, but the 2D and picture quality just doesn't compare to some other sets. I had a sony 3d tv which had FANTASTIC 2d, but the 3d was VERY LOUSY (bad crosstalk, can't tilt your head). I'm hoping for better in these 2012 sets, but I've already read some bad things about the lm8600 like it might have overheating issues.

They are just features that can be unlocked in the service menu. You will need a remote tha can get into the service menu. I have an old RCA universal remote that does it, some ppl use a harmony remote. They are added to the picture mode section once enabled, where vivid, cinema, game, etc. are. They are preset modes. Most ppl end up adjusting them, they arent special they just add more picture modes to choose from. The code is 0413. Im not sure if u can still get into it and adjust it but i know i could when i had my lw6500, i dont have the tv anymore i got the 55lm6700 when it came out and the code works but the THX mode is grayed out so maybe they blockd it for everyone, u now have to have a LG service remote (which is now for sale on amazon) but i can say though i really wish i had the 55lw6500 back. LG spent to much concern with having the thinnest bezel tv on the market they really took a step back on the picture quality.
Has anyone figured out how to set THX mode for the internal Apps on the TV? I watch Netflix using the internal app of the TV and send the sound out via ARC but when I go to change to the THX video mode it is not listed like it is when I am using one of the external inputs.

LG warranty is a bit of a rip off. They are exchanging my TV, but are giving me almost $500 less than I paid for it. Since there's no 7600 model at Visions (or even Canada), I have to either pick the 8600 or the 6700. Of course I get the replacement TV at inventory cost, but the 8600 is still $500 more out of my pocket which I really cannot afford at this time. If I get the 6700, it's a 120hz set whereas my 6500 is a 240hz set. It's not an ideal exchange....

I am having an issue with Netflix as well. It has worked fine up to a couple of days ago but now when I select Netflix from the menu, the NETFLIX splash screen comes up but no load bar as it typically does. It freezes the TV and the only thing I can do is shut it off. Can't back out of Netflix. I assume it is an update issue but now I have to use my PS3 to watch Netflix (bummer after being able to use it on the TV which is so easy). Anway to manually remove and reload the Netflix app?
Let me reiterate, LG warranty is a RIP OFF!! The idea of a replacement sounds good at first, but then their idea of 'replacement' is to give me %65 of my original purchase price towards buying a new set. I couldn't afford the $500+ difference to an 8600 and Visions doesn't carry the 7600 so I got a toshiba 7200. I'm not happy with the new set and now Visions wants a %15 restocking fee because it was a trade. If it was a normal sale, there would be no fee. What a cluster..... I'll have to stick with the toshiba for now.

But, I did look at a 9600 and I could sometimes see dirty screen effect when watching John Carter 3D.

So I finally got around to hacking into the service menu using my harmony one. I set it to THX Bright room and the difference is like night and day, very pleased with the picture. I had previously tweaked the picture using recommendations from various blogs and I thought they were fine until I was able to get the THX mode. Much crisper. THX 3D is also my go to. My only gripe is that whenever I turn off the tv, it resets the image size to "just scan". This leaves a flicker at the very top of the screen since it doesn't allow the image to completely fill the tv so I end up having to go into the quick menu and switch it back to 16x9. Anyone else have this issue? My current firmware is 4.03.02 which is the latest as far as I know.

This happens to me often. Go to setup, then Network. Select, "Smart TV Setting" and go to "Premium Version". Click on that, and you'll see a list of content names. Select Netflix, and disable it. This will refresh the app, and you'll have to input your username and password again. You'll be playing movies as if nothing wrong ever happened. cool.gif

Not sure if this is the best place to ask this question, but it is in relation to my LW6500 and I'm really scratching my head over how to proceed.

I have all of my components (BD player, Apple TV, STB) hooked up to a Pioneer VSX-1021. I then have the HDMI out of the receiver hooked up to HDMI 1 of the TV. This has worked great...no problems...until....

This past Friday I tried turning everything on (Logitech remote) to watch a little TV before I leave for the weekend to go camping. No picture...says no signal detected. This is not altogether unususal as sometimes the remote does not change the input on the receiver if the last use was, say, Airplay streaming. I push the help button on the remote. The receiver corrects itself for cable box, all looks good. Except still no picture. Sound is coming from the speakers so I know cable box is sending signal to receiver.

I did not watch TV the previous day so the last time it worked for me was Wednesday. My wife was apparently listening to music via Airplay on either Thursday night or Friday morning. Frustrated and irritated, I go camping.

Come home last night to try to figure out how it got screwed up. I hook STB straight to HDMI 1...no signal. I hook up STB to HDMI 2...Picture and sound!!! I hook things back up through receiver and hook receiver to HDMI 2....Nothing. So it would seem that HDMI out from receiver and HDMI 1 input both have issues. Is it possiple there was some kind of surge that fried both input/outputs? Did I miss a step in trying to troubleshoot? I can't live with the bad speakers of this TV after enjoying sound through my sound system for the last 9 months.

Any ideas, recommendations, thought would be greatly appreciated.

Anyone know how to get Netflix or any of the apps to brighten up, adjusting the contrast & brightness doesn't quite do it.
Seems like Energy saving is forced on, and grayed out(back light).

New software is updating right now. I'm replacing 04.03.02 with 04.03.03
post #2392 of 2465
OK, gang, tell me if I'm missing something with this. I updated my firmware to version 04.03.03 tonight. In the past, when watching blu-rays with DTS 7.1 soundtracks, there would be no audio coming through the TV speakers. After the firmware update, lo and behold, sound is playing through the speakers fine. The display indicates that the audio is indeed the DTS 7.1 soundtrack. Does this mean the set now has DTS pass through or am I mixing something up? The blu-ray player is a PS3 and everything is hooked up via HDMI to a Yamaha RX-A1000 receiver.
I have my LG setup though my Surround Sound receiver. After update I ripped a Blu Ray with DTS audio and tried to play the Movie file though my Network to the LG. TV still shows "no audio support" for DTS. I check Service Menu and didn't see any new setting which allows DTS Pass Though.

Though I don't use True Motion I wonder if 24FPS needs to be disabled as well in orderr to use the newer algorithm?

I also found thx mode reverting to just scan when changing channels to be annoying. To fix it I saved all of the thx settings in expert mode at 16x9.

Hi folks,

Many apologies if these questions have already been dealt with but I'm not finding the search function here particularly helpful.

1) As much as I love my 6500 (had it for a year now), I am quite often slightly distracted by what I would call horizontal areas or bands when there is a fairly solid-colored background such as the sky or any other similar "solid" areas on-screen. Seems to be more pronounced with animated movies because of the colors. No doubt this is a known issue, but is there a way to at least minimize it's appearance if it cannot be removed completely?

2) Recently I've also noticed that when watching movies with particularly dark scenes, that the brightness of the screen can change. I don't think I have any settings on to automatically adjust the screen for brightness and my home theatre is set up with very dark curtains to block out pretty much all light sources - i.e., the environment is pretty much constant.

Any tips or insights would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Dave

My 55LW6500 picture went extremely dark all of the sudden. The splash screen looks fine but then when it goes to TV or video input I can barely see the picture. It is so dark that it is very hard to navigate around the menus but I was able to do a factory reset but that did not help the extremely dark picture. I did notice before it went dark that the upper left corner of the picture was looking darker then the rest of the screen.

Any thoughts as to what could have caused this or has anyone seen this before?

Follow-up.... I left my TV unplugged for 24 hours and when I plugged it back in it came up and said update detected and installed and it has been working fine ever since???? Not sure what caused the hicup but I hope all is well with the tv now.

Just an interesting FYI. The wireless adapter that comes with the LW6500 uses these drivers to make it work in windows 7 32/64 bit. You have to manually install it. Just go to update drivers and get to the point where it asks for the disk where it's at, and select the inf file.

Greetings. Total newb here, but I have a kind of worrisome question. We bought an LG Infinia 65LW6500 last fall and really love it. Last night I finally got around to getting into the service menu to turn on THX mode, THX 3D, THX Media Director, and local dimming. Then, today, I see this in another thread:

DO NOT SELECT THX MEDIA DIRECTOR
ON ANY LCD TV IT CAN DESTABILIZE
YOUR TV IT'S USED ON PDP.I WOULD
NOT LEAVE IT ON IF YOU'VE DONE SO.

Obviously, though it would be nice to have the media director option on, I don't want to screw up my television after having it for less than a year. Should I turn it off ASAP or is this poster incorrect (not slinging mud, if you're reading this; it's just the only place I've seen it)?

Thanks,
DC
