It's through direct internet connection.

When I tried to update, it said there wasn't any update available. My version is 1019.

(Update) I did updated it to 1022 using USB. I was able to update online directly from the TV before.

The AMP issue still hasn't been fixed. At least on my set (UN55D6000). It still stutters with AMP set to off, so I have to still use Clear. The only way to disable AMP without stutter is still Game Mode. I cannot believe this issue still hasn't been fixed! It's so annoying.

This is the supposed change log for this firmware:

1. Title
Firmware for LED TV D60** / D64** / D6500 series
2. Applicable Model
D6000SF / D6050TF / D6400UF / D6420UF / D6450UF / D6500VF
3. Carrier or Corporate Customer
all customers
4. Description
- This firmware will decrease flickering problem on 3D mode. (only 3D model)
- Change the way to get out of Store Demo Mode
- Change the type of information of Info banner
- Prevent escaping issue when pressing volume button on video apps(Netflix, Vudu, etc)
- Support Remote Service
- For netflix 3.1 service.

Not sure if it makes any difference, but prior to updating from 1017 to firmware 1019.2 and then 1022 I reset the whole TV back to the factory default settings. I have 0 issues with any stuttering.
can you clarify that a little? do you mean by factory default resetting the tv in the service menu? ..... ok nm i just looked it up duh. just in case anyone else is wondering you hold down exit on the remote for 10 sec while the tv is on and the option to reset all values should come up.

Not yet, except Netflix is different and I don't really like the new version of Netflix.

One more thing after the new Netflix app: now when I am watching Netflix, I can't get the menu when I push Tools and then Menu. Anyone has the same problem?
I installed it and don't notice anything different. Don't see any change on the Info banner either.
But I didn't have any problems in the 1st place. Great picture since Day 1.

I did the upgrade but now Netflix will not work. It works fine via my Apple TV so I don't think it is a service issue. It just hangs at the logo/loading screen.

After I upgraded to firmware 1022, I had to log into Netflix again (i.e., re-enter log on id and password).

If I want to watch a movie in netflix I now go to my computer login to netflix, find the movie and put it in my instant queue. Then when I'm on the TV I can easily find that movie.

As an aside I also updated to 1022 from 1019 last night. I haven't used the TV enough since to see if it has improved the picture quality... but I still have a picture.

xlii, what I meant was that I had to log in to Netflix again on the TV the first time after I updated the firmware. The last time I upgraded to 1019, the TV remembered my log in information from before and I didn't have to log in again. Of course, I have already had my instant queue setup.

For me it was still trying to load the old version of the app. I had to reset smarthub settings which in doing so deleted any apps I had downloaded. After the reset Netflix worked.

The story is from May 2008. It was one person complaining. In the comments after the story another person said that they had had the same problem and Samsung came out and fixed their TV.

If this was Samsung's policy it would be common knowledge to all of us. There would be a lot more customers complaining.

and does this restore everything? including the original firmware that was initially installed @ the factory? or does it just reset all the menus & settings only?

Edit. 1022.4 is up on Samsung Website. Seems to be same version that can be downloaded right from tv.

I've been running 1022 (updated via wireless) for a few days now and it is an improvement over 1019 which made me want 1018 back again. I have a un46d6000 and so far 1022 is a keeper.

Has anyone else done the software update today? It screwed up my Smart hub. whenever I try to use an app it sits at connecting forever...

I had to reset my SmartHub settings to fix that issue. Expect to lose any apps you had downloaded in the process.

Hi there i have a question , is it recomended to go into the service menu, will it change anything like better piture cualaty or something.
Is there a place where one can get a quick comparison of these two? Is the only difference the SKYPE added to the 6500?

Are there any screen differences? What about 3d glasses included?

Anyone have any comments about which might have a better picture?

No, it's never recommended to go into the service menu. Even if you think you know what you're doing, don't bother. You're chances are better you'll ruin your tv rather than make it better.

I need help with two things. I need to lower the blacks without washing out details.

On google.com, the bar on top should be a darker grey. I have a fairly bright grey.

If I lower brightness, dark level, gamma, it lowers that black but ruins dark scenes. Any calibration help.

Faces also look pale and washed out. Increase color or setting RGB to native, makes everything too red. I would like the to look orange.

Can you post your current settings? That would allow others here to give feedback as to your settings. I would recommend buying a calibration disk and doing the calibration yourself. There is a learning curve (I did mine 4 times before I got it right) but the time spent will teach you a lot about the adjustments you can do to your TV.

I'm considering a UN60D6500 to replace my long-in-the-tooth 2005 56" Sammy DLP. I spotted one of these sets in the store and the effect you get with the thin bezel is impressive.

Can anyone comment on lag in this display? I play a lot of games on the Xbox360, including some online shooters so display lag matters to me.

Looking over the current Samsung models the 6x00 series seems to be my best bet. I don't really care for 3d (gives me headaches) and I want as little native software on my tv as possible (I have a Mac Mini I use as a HTPC so I already have a web browser/media center/etc.). Looks like the 6x00 series is a solid tv with as few of the gadgets I'm not going to use as possible. I don't really want to pay for the 3d capability but it seems that every mid to high-end TV these days has it.

Any advice? Anybody love/hate their UN60D6500?
