My question is: Is the 60i the resolution being displayed? Shouldn't it be at least 720? HDMI2 has a PS3 connected to it and it shows 1920x1080/60p. I've checked the Samsung manual for setting and the DRV settings and as far as I can tell, they are set correctly. Any insight will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi, G4brat,

The information displayed is telling you the resolution is 1920x1080i and the signal received from the source, you Dish receiver, is 60Hz which is the standard in the U.S. So that is all correct and nothing is wrong with the set. The t.v. is taking the 60Hz signal and inserting frames to create a 120Hz end result.

If the information shown was "1920x720/60" the resolution would be "1920x720i".

The PS3 is reporting 60P Hz because it is passing BluRay. If you go to a PPV movie channel that is showing a 1080P movie the "info" would reflect same.

I'm sure others will come along to comment on, add to, or correct/clarify what I've said.

Hope this helps.

Newbie to the LED department coming from Plasma so far I like these two the UN46D6000 & UN46D6500. Not sure which one I should go with? Not really worried about 3d but mostly the video quality for every day tv use from watching movies to news etc. I plan to see them this weekend but any comments or advise or opinion regarding these two tv's would be great. Thank you!

The UN46D6000 is several hundred dollars cheaper, because it has no 3D capability and no wireless network adaptor built-in.
The UN46D6500 has 3D and wireless network built-in, so it costs more.
Do you want the extra features or save some money? Picture quality and basic 2D features are the same.'
If you don't care about the smart internet features, you can save even more with a cheaper model from Samsung like the LN46D630 which has CCFL backlight instead of LED so it doesn't have the flashlighting and clouding effects seen with LED backlight.

I've had both these sets, although their 55" cousins, and both of them have issues. I'd go with the D630, if I had it to do all over again.......even CNET gave it a better review than the D6000 Series.

(If someone has technical details to support this theory please post the URL)

With that said there is one HDMI port called ARC (Audio Return Channel) #2 on the Sammy 6000. You would want to use this port if you connect a Receiver to the TV. However, this has nothing to do with PQ. Also only a 1.4 High Speed HDMI cable supports the Audio Return Channel Function. Here is a description of the ARC function: http://www.hdmi.org/manufacturer/hdmi_1_4/arc.aspx
"The Audio Return Channel in HDMI 1.4 enables a TV, via a single HDMI cable, to send audio data upstream to an A/V receiver or surround audio controller, increasing user flexibility and eliminating the need for any separate S/PDIF audio connection."

Also, HDMI # 1 supports both HDMI and DVI for those that might have an older DVI standard component and need to use a DVI to HDMI cable--but again I don't think this would alter the PQ for an HDMI connection.

I've been scouring for exactly that documentation, but have found none. I did perceive a difference when switching my HD TiVo from HDMI input 1 to 3. I can't quantify the difference, and it may have just been a factor of spending some time with the set.

I presume there's some difference in the straight DVI bus compared to the full HDMI stream. I'd have to do some digging, but I suppose it is possible there's more data in a HDMI 1.4 stream vs. a DVI bus.

I did dig up the documentation on ARC, and since I don't plan on ever doing OTA with this TV, it has no value to me.

Is there a model that has a PQ similar to D630's but with lower input lag in game mode?

UND6000S seems to be missing that vibrant/full color scheme that D630 has. This set's PQ is comparable to D550's regardless of the more versatile picture control UND6000S utilizes.

I'm hoping that UND6400 is more like D630. Will report back tonight!

Hey Gang....

Picked up a UN55D6000SF from ABC yesterday. Got Dropped off this morning @ 8am... (nice)

Anyway, all is well and I'm accepting the Typical LED issues that come with the Tech... This may be an easy fix or not but, I Got my MKV Blu-Ray files to play off of my server PC upstairs with Digital Audio and all but the Audio keeps cutting out for split second...

Anyone know the cause of this or the Fix for that matter? Sorry, don't have much time to read through the entire thread... Multitasking today! )

Thanks!

P.S. Server has Win7 Pro 64bit and Using "ALLShare" Software to playback the MKV's as that's the only way that "I know of that they will get recognized by the TV".... On that PC I have Arcsoft TMT 5 and Mirillis Splash Pro as well as Boxee installed on it. (not sure if that matters being I'm assuming the TV has it's own Decoding SW....

Just picked up a 46" series 6450 from BB - it's their version of the 6400. I've followed a number of the calibration suggestions posted here but have a few questions:
1) Color Space and 10PT White Balance - shouldn't these be inputted based on proper analysis and calibration? I had Tom Huffman calibrate my JVC projector to near perfection using $10,000 worth of equipment. Am I missing something here?
2) Other suggestions have produced a very good picture - sharp, colorful, good black levels, decent gamma. I'm using the Auto Motion "Clear" setting and scene transitions are smooth without breakup (have yet to watch sports).

Since this display will be used basically for casual watching (cable shows, news, etc) I set my expectations low, and boy am I pleasantly surprised. It's a very good picture! Uniformity is decent, and what little of the edge/flashlight issue that some folks here get their panties in a knot is no big whoop for me (And I can be VERY PICKY when it comes to my theater) - maybe I've got a good one. BTW, it's mounted on the stand at eye level.

Ciao.

I bought the Samsung UN55D6003 on BK for $999 I am not happy with this set. the Blur is not very good, so for a $100 more would it be worth the trade to a D6000 considering the DCR is 1mil more then the 6003, plus the panel is crazy reflective!
same here...i will replace it for I dont know what? is the other 55 samsung for $1095 betterthan this $999 one, or does it have the same problems?

ENJOY!

You need to go recheck your settings. I can nearly guarantee that you with your contrast set so high, you are introducing colors into white. And contrast 95 /w backlight of 15? What ftL is that showing? 65-70? Also you should start with a two-point WB and then use the 10-point as needed.

YEP! I was amazed but I guess loyalty pays off at ABC... Got my last three HD sets there including this one.

Box and Receipt both say Samsung UN55D6000SF

P.S. Still looking for some advice on my MKV Audio dropping on this Unit. Happens through both "Video" and "AllShare" Icon playback...

Maybe the Codex on the TV?

does it happen with all your mkv files ... i would connect to wdtv and watch all the mkv's from there

I'm not a big fan of the Allshare software. Most any other DLNA server might fix the stuttering and be easier to manage. I'm a big Mezzmo fan, but it's $30 after a two week trial. Tversity gets a lot of use as well.

I've stumbled upon a setting on my Sammy 6000 that eliminates all my flash-lighting--albeit at a cost to the overall PQ.

As I have already written about in this forum--my October build Sammy 6000 displays significant flash-lighting from both bottom corners. So much so that I also see the flash-lighting corners on dark/black scenes while watching content from any source. I tried increasing the ambient light in the room, and I tried loosening the TV frame screws on the back of the TV neither of which have worked in my case.

Today I turned on the ECO Sensor and experimented with low, mid, high. With the ECO sensor set at high, this setting eliminates the flash-lighting 100%. The medium setting a little less and the low setting just a bit. However, the result of the Eco Sensor set to high, is a really dark screen. Likewise the ECO sensor when turned on seems to disable the bright screen settings on my "tools" menu--so I was not able to counter-balance the dark effects of the Eco senor.

I've tried a couple of the different settings recommended in this forum, for my eyes I keep going back to Redwolf4k's "Standard" setting. However no matter who's settings recommendations I apply so far even the "calibrated settings" by Nutdotnet, while they get me great PQ my set still suffers from the flash-lights.

Anybody out there have any other suggestions on how best to counter-balance the dark effects of the ECO Sensor setting (which eliminates the flash-lights on my TV) with the overall "dark screen" effect produced by the ECO Sensor?

Thanks for reading...

What is your backlight setting? It shouldn't be higher than 10. And your contrast should be less than 90. I'm beginning to beleive that the folks with the flashlight issue are driving their panels too hard, and your post verifies that assumption. Turn off the ECO sensor and lower your backlight to 5 and your contrast to 50, check the picture and if needed, lower the backlight until the the flashlight affect is hardly notceable. Then increase the contrast up to 80 or 90. Is the picture bright enough? Is the flashlight affect tolerable? Fine. If the pic is still dim at contrast 90, increase the backlight until it's bright enough and the flashlight affect is still tolerable.

LBJ2 could you please point me to redwolf settings... I bought this set from BB also and replaced the first one because of the same problem you have , this second tv is ALoT better.., I am still debating if I am keeping it or not, is for my media room to hold me over until the Sammy 65" 3d comes down. Going to Frys today and see what they have.

This set allows for fine adjustment of both dejudder, and motion blur. The set can be made to have full motion resolution, which means no blur.

However, the ST30 will most likely look smoother. Personally I never noticed much of a difference (from my Panasonic S1 plasma to the D6000), and I am very picky. That doesn't mean you won't though. The D6000 needs a few in-menu tweaks to make the motion look natural.

Here you go, I think it was on Page 47. People seem to prefer my second set of setting in the "Standard" Mode...

Avoid any settings where people use "dark" black level, etc, as they are clipping details and didn't use test patterns to create there settings.

The SECOND set of settings (the "Standard" mode ones) are what I use 99% of the time and they look stunning. The out of the box standard settings are too dynamic and harsh.

Enjoy!

For Critical Movie viewing, and conforming to the Motion Picture Standard:

Picture mode: Movie
Backlight: 12 (dark room backlight 10) (see above explanation for adjustment advice)
Contrast: 85
Brightness: 44 (ensures video black is as deep as possible while maintaining full shadow detail)
Sharpness: 20 (sure, 0 introduces no enhancement, but it creates an out of focus appearance you don't experience at the movie theatre. 20 is actually quite realistic)
Color: 48 (balanced)
Tint: 50/50

Advanced
Black tone: off
Dynamic contrast: off
Shadow detail: +2
Gamma: 1
Color space: Auto (confusing with the name "Auto", but this is the color gamut that aligns with Rec 709)
White balance: off
Flesh tone: 0
Edge enhancement: on
Motion lighting: off
Led motion plus: off

Picture options:
Color tone: warm 2
Digital noise filter: off
Mpeg noise filter: off
HDMI Black level: low
Film mode: auto 2 (or greyed out)
Auto motion plus: Clear or Off

System
Eco sensor: off

Now here is a second set of settings, and this is an option for those who simply want to see how well this set can perform OUTSIDE of the standards used in motion picture and television. These settings will look stunning with animation both hand drawn and computer generated, and look stunning with video games.

For the most visually stunning performance of the set outside the Motion Picture standard (without clipping any details):

Picture mode: Standard
Backlight: 12 (see above explanation for adjustment advice)
Contrast: 85
Brightness: 45
Sharpness: 35 (the default 50 is WAY to high, and causes many problems, including enhancing noise)
Color: 50 (slight over saturation, no clipping)
Tint: 50/50

Advanced
Black tone: off
Dynamic contrast: Medium (wont clip dark detail through its dynamic range paired with brightness @ 45)
Shadow detail: -2 (one of my favorite features, if it doesn't bother you, ensures your contrast stays great in dark scenes)
Gamma: 0
Color space: Native (the tamed green and slightly enhanced red of this Samsung created color gamut pairs very well with the Warm 1 overly blue color temp. Appears very balanced to the eye, although does not conform to the standard for motion picture. Sand, sunlight and skin will appear more realistic)
White balance: off
Flesh tone: 0
Edge enhancement: on
Motion lighting: off
Led motion plus: off

Picture options:
Color tone: warm 1 ("standard" color temp was way to blue. Warm 1 improves matters. Although still overly blue, it does not wash out colors with a radically blue grayscale.)
Digital noise filter: off
Mpeg noise filter: off
HDMI Black level: low
Film mode: auto 2 (or greyed out)
Auto motion plus: Clear

System
Eco sensor: off
