And now it's my turn to seek help. ^_^

My grandparents have the UND556003 BB "Black Friday" model (why they didn't go the extra $100 for a real 6000 that would let me give them streaming netflix over our wired connection is beyond me), and my grandma, the master of the living room, can't seem to remember that TV is for her VCR, HDMI1/DVI is for her TV, and Component is for her DVD player. Is there a way on these lovingly crippled models to edit the names of the sources so she can more easily see what is what?

I know my C series 6500 TV has a source list in its menu, but not sure how to go about that with the Black Friday models.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
You can try this...
On the remote, press Source to bring up the source menu. Highlight the source for which to wish to change the name, and press Tools. This will bring up another menu with a number of different names to choose from (e.g. Satellite, Game, DVD, BD, etc.). Select the desired name and press enter/select

FWIW it's listed on the D6000 setup manual on page 13.

When you do a firmware update does it reset all your settings back to factory default (UN60D6000)?
When you upgrade software, all video and audio settings you have made will return
to their default settings.

It's in the D6000 manual. Notice I bolded that. What I need access to is the D6003 equivalant, and I've yet to find any combination that lets me rename them. I have learned one important lesson: I'll never buy a "black friday" edition TV like my grandparents did - damned thing is more of a PITA than it should be and it would have been worth me giving my grandparents the $100 difference it would have cost to get a real 6000 and not the shishkabobbed 6003.

[quote=Zokambaa;21544744]I have the new UN46D6000 TV and find it works awesome with a direct LAN cable to my router connecting to my pc or the Internet... not a single issue so far...

Then I tried wireless... I have my SSID hidden but all new and old network devices and LAN adaptors accept me manually configuring them and specifying my hidden SSID and Password... no issue...

However with the Samsung... it lets me connect for a few seconds.. then if I generate any traffic (eg smart link to pc) it immediately disconnects and can`t see the network...

My Asus RT-N16 router sees all the attempts to connect but no go..

I tried all types of bands from a,b,g,n 20 MHz as well as 40 MHz I tried the router right beside the system and across the condo... various tx and RX strengths... but no go... I connect for a few seconds and then lose it...

so I said to hell with network security and set my router to broadcast my SSID... I hate doing this and

I tried all types of bands from a,b,g,n 20 MHz as well as 40 MHz I tried the have never had old legacy or brand new state of the art equipment have issue with this....but decided to try it anyway...

and PRESTO!!!! now I can connect using any encryption or band for any length of time

No problem.... but again as soon as I set it to hide the SSID the stupid Samsung wireless device sees it for the setup and a couple seconds of connect afterwards... then nothing...

So.. it seems I have to broadcast to everyone in range of my router (I can see about 12 other wireless routers in my condo alone) or I will have to string a hard linr from the router to the TV

I hate broadcasting my SSID... and for samsung to need this, well it kind of pisses me off..... especially since this device has a list cost of over $130... (I got mine free with the TV on sale just after christmas)

Samsung`s tech support haven`t a clue even at 2nd level...so maybe someone here has some ideas.... supposedly their Tier 3 will call me tomorrow.. but I`m not holding my breath...

For now I`ll just run a 15 food cat-6 cable to my router from my TV along the baseboard... but WIFI would be handy on this thing.

Not the same problem as yours but mine is working now. I have a Linksys WRT54gl and my settings are, SSID Hidden, channel 6-2.437GHZ, G-Only, WPA Personal, AES, MAC filter enabled and everything else at default.

Ok I spoke too soon. Last couple of days had a hard time connecting and when I connect to something like YouTube it plays for a while then stalls. Turn my SSID broadcast on and it is fine. After much testing there is a bug here somewhere. OP did you get anywhere with Tech support or will I be wasting my time?

Hi, balla01,

If you tv is running fine then don't upgrade the software.

Just my 2¢.

I'm new here, but thought it important to weigh on my experience with (Best Buy) UN40D6000's. I bought my original set this past Boxing Day, and am now in the process of returning my third – yes, third – set. As a few others have described, the D6000 panels are defective, with clusters of dead pixels that show up as a grey bar on white and light-coloured backgrounds. Each of the three sets I exchanged had the same 6" solid grey bar in the centre of the screen. The defective sets were part of 2 separate shipments to the same store. Best Buy were good enough about doing the exchanges, however they're now admitting that their entire shipment may be defective – so much so that the salesperson recommended I not get another D6000 – until when/if they're able to fix the problem. As proof of this, the salesperson picked a random (unopened) 40D6000 box out of their warehouse, brought it out on the floor and plugged it in. Same grey bar, same location on the display panel.

Bottom line: if you're a Best Buy customer – especially if you're a Canadian Best Buy customer – do not buy the Samsung UN40d6000.

Sorry to hear about your horrible experience. I just purchased my UN46D6900 from Best Buy and absolutely love it!

The 6900 is a pretty good step up from a 6000. I'd love to see how well it deals with dark scenes without first messing with the gamma/black tone/hdmi black level/shadow detail/brightness<50 settings. I know the D6003 my grandparents have flickers like crazy during black fadeouts when they watch VCR tapes because of the CE Dimming (LED auto-shutdown during dark scenes) that is present if you don't adjust the settings I just mentioned to a minimum level for each one.

Do you remember what the manufacture date and/or version code was on those TVs? I had a UN40D6000 that was also from a Best Buy here in Hamilton, also purchased during the Boxing Day sale ($699 deal with the WiFi) that was manufactured in Nov. 2011, version CN02 and it didn't have that issue.
How/where are you finding the manufacture date? All I see on the sticker on the back of the panel is the model, S/N, and version.

I haven't messed with one setting at all, the tv is flawless. I just bought the 6900 from Best Buy for $1099, it came with 4 pairs of glasses and I got a $130 gift card! I feel like I robbed them!

If you have a smart phone, you can also download the free Samsung app. I prefer physical buttons, but I almost always have my cell phone with me, and it works without having to have direct line of sight, so it does have its advantages. And, it is responsive. I'm impressed with it. So you can also try that, but I, like you, would want my physical remote to work. So a reset of the TV may be necessary. Good luck!

How do you tell the manufacture date? All I see is the SN and the version number (H301).

The first set was bought right around Boxing Week; however the Best Buy subsequently sold out of them and restocked. I have no idea if the restocked sets are from the same lot as the first one.

It should say on the sticker. Here's a picture of the UN40D6000 I had. The manufacture date is above the right side warning sign (the one with the exclamation mark):

So I have had it up to here with this dang TV! I got a replacement 2 weeks ago and what I thought was a better panel was not. At first everything looked better. My first issue was with viewing angle. Now I am having issues with banding. Its not very bad but its there. I especially notice it when I am playing MW3 and I am panning around when I aim quickly around a grey room. I am so upset I almost want to take the thing back and never buy a TV again. I did not think TVs had these kind of issues!

I issued a repair request and hope that the technician can fix the banding issue.

I have a version H302 and am experiencing severe flashlighting in all 4 corners as well as moderate clouding, does anyone know which version or panel is the best to look for in a replacement?
My 60" 6420 is a F301 panel, made in October 2011 and is almost flawless.

Hello all,

I am a long time lurker. After reading an absolute ton of posts (due diligence is done lol), I purchased the 65". I bought the TV and had Mr. MKANET's setting in my hand to re-calibrate (and I thank you!). However, the options offered on my menu do not reflect the option shown on MKANET's settings. Could anyone please produce their settings? I am a rookie when it comes to calibration and I would enjoy viewing what you see as the best picture possible. I'm not adverse to hiring a professional but, if I can get help here, why spend the money without asking you good people first?

Thank you,
Philip

I received an ad from TigerDirect today which included a UN55D6005. The ad says the TV is 240hz. This seems to be false advertising since I don't believe this TV has a native resolution of 240hz. Does any one know the correct refresh rate for this model?

I believe it's 120hz with 240 CMR (clear-motion rate) on the D6000. I may be wrong and it may be different for the "6005".

I went to best buy and they only had H302 and H306 models, Anyone have the H306? How is it treating you?

I had a Samsung Ln46C670 (C650 with streaming content) and the picture was great, the only flaws were a few motion artifacts and substantial input lag for gaming. The picture was beautiful otherwise, my initial impression of the D6000 is that it almost completely eliminates input lag (especially in game mode) as well as does a commendable job on motion processing even without AMP.

The only thing that really bugs me about the D6000 is that the noise reduction is not as good as the C6XX series and the image grain is noticeably greater on my UN46D6000 than on my C670. I can bare the "flash lighting" but the grain even on High noise filter settings is difficult to get used to.

All and all I believe the TV is a net gain over my C670 and would be a perfect unit if the noise filtering was better. .does anyone have settings or suggestions on how to reduce film grain/image noise? Also has it been established that the D7000 and D8000 use the same panel as the D6000?

I recently got one of these UN46D6000 TVs and while it looks totally crappy on standard def rca cables it did look killer on HD images and with movies streamed to it from serviio... I managed to make it look half decent by turning down the back light and tweaking the settings with some of those posted here...

Then tonight... about 2-3 weeks after I got it, I did a reset on the settings so I could try another person's settings which some agreed looked great... and the bloody thing all of a sudden started presenting the image upside down...

earlier this week it decided to start showing everything with a massive pinkish red hue... (kind of like a VGA monitor cable partly unplugged) nothing fixed it until I did a factory reset.. then it was fine again...

But now tonight after resetting the settings it decides to do the upside down screen thing...

it is like I turned the screen completely around... (Kind of like doing the ctrl-alt-arrow key to make an intel chipset display upside down or sideways on a computer)

nothing seemed to fix it... just when I was getting used to this thing... and the back light bleed was not too bad either... with proper settings I didn't really even see it...

dammnit... what the hell would cause the stupid thing to display the picture upside down...

I even went so far as to search the net for factory hidden menu resets tonight... and tried it... while it did reset everything the damn image is still upside down...

ARRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGHHH

I spend a grand on this thing and it turns out to be crap... what the hell... I thought the Koreans made decent electronics... unlike so many garbage chinese made stereo/TV/telephone, and computer devices I've bought in recent years...

My Samsung 22" Monitor has been great other than the crap chinese capacitors inside it dying after a few years.... but I opened it up and soldered in some quality Japanese caps and the thing is golden again...but that thing only cost me about $200 vs this brand new TV at close to $1000

I guess I have to lug it back to the store tomorrow... (good thing I've had it less than a month)... but has anyone else seen such a thing on their TV and/or have a way to fix it without another TV swap in case it happens again?
Samsung's tech support people are complete morons... and I have a background in phone support so I know what it is like... but they must go to the ghettos of the southern states and pick anyone up off the street to handle their phone support...

Give me India any day... sure the accent is harder to understand but from my experience they can at least do the job technically... rather than some dildo reading off a script card and not actually troubleshooting

ARRGGGH

anyway so I go up to level 3 support on this issue.. they were supposed to call me back but.. I guess they gave me the big F.YOU and threw out my request to talk to someone about this...

Anyway.. I'm going to sell this crappy wi-fi dongle and just run a 10 foot ethernet cable to my TV from my router so I don't have to broadcast my SSID anymore...

Bloody stupid that the thing sees it and conects fine for a few seconds... then dies if you have SSID hidden.... turn it on and presto... no issue...

uggg.... I am seriously having buyers remorse now... maybe since I have other issues with th TV (image suddenly is upside down now like someone turned the tv upside down) I think I'll return it and swap out for the LG....it was my 2nd choice anyway..... but I dunno.. maybe I'll give samsung a 2nd chance... but it is pissing me off that is for sure.... why the hell can't companies manufacture things that work longer than a few months anymore???
