What else do you propose I do? The TV was a gift from my Step Father who happens to run Samsung's corporate insurance division. He got it for less than $1000. It didn't start lagging until 2-3 weeks ago when I updated the firmware. I could deal with the minimal flashlighting but not the lagging. I figured while the tech was here replacing the board, why not point out the flashlighting to see if I can get a new panel. I already talked to Samsung about the issue and a very nice lady gave me her extension. She told me if I have anymore problems after this repair, they are going to give me a 7000 series 59 in. plasma.

So again. I ask you. What do you propose I do when I got the TV for FREE and it was purchased at a DEEP employee discount. Not everyone purchases their TV's from Best Buy and can just take them back for an exchange.

In the end, I'll be glad to go through all this trouble for a TV that was purchased at half of it's retail price.

I definitely understand your situation. How one would deal with it is highly subjective.

In your case you're pretty much stuck between a rock and a hard place.

For me, a $1000 turd is still a turd.

Has anyone else experienced issues with the audio dropping out every once in awhile? It only drops for like 1-2 seconds at a time, but it happens quite frequently when watching TV.

I ordered a new HDMI cable hoping that might be the issue, since the cable I am using now is just whatever UVerse gave me when they installed my service.

Well, if my TV is still flash lighting after the tech installs the new panel which I'm pretty sure it will be, I will be trading it in for a Plasma. If it doesn't exhibit flash lighting then the TV is no longer a turd as it displays deeper blacks and more accurate colors than any other edge lit LCD TV I've ever seen. I'd be happy to keep it as long as the flash lighting is under control. I still don't see how it's a turd considering I would challenge you to name a TV out right now without a single problem. All your doing is trading one problem for another when you switch TV's.

By the way, I'm watching Sunday night football right now and the picture is absolutely amazing. It's actually damn near flawless with with no motion blur whatsoever.

Nope. No audio problems here.

adam914 I have the thing happen also. Only happens when watching cable TV, not from disk player. I can live with this as it happens so infrequently, unless it's an indicator of another issue.

Now if I could just figure out why the entire screen winks out to black for a second every so often. This happens maybe once a month.

Thanks for the replies...mine seems to be happening quite a bit. I'm starting to notice that it actually seems to be happening on some channels more then others, which leads me to believe it could be something with my cable box (I have UVerse). Hard to narrow it down though...I've had this TV (UN46D7000) for about a week and the audio issues never happened on my old TV.

We'll see what the new HDMI cable does. Thanks for all the help here guys. Stumbled upon this forum when looking for settings and am having pretty good results with the Standard settings on the first post.

Have you connected it directly to the TV or via a receiver?

When I got Onkyo 3008 between the receiver and my earlier uverse box, I would see audio drop outs whenever the source is 2.0 that the receiver tries to convert to DD PLII.
That issue was purely a compatibility issue with the uverse box and the receiver.

No receiver. I just have it straight from the uverse box to the tv.

Hey all, quick question. I am having issues with a new samsung plasma and am considering exchanging for this set.

My main question, my living room has some windows and natural light, and a few lamps in the night time. i thought it was setup to not have reflection issues with plasma with a screen filter but i was wrong. in the store, the screen on this set seems to be reflective and some of the pictures in this thread seems to show window and/or light reflections during dark screens.

what are your thoughts on this, im sure it's less reflective than plasma, but has anyone experienced issues with this? thanks in advance

Is the uverse box's output set to 2.0 or surround?

Hello all, I'm a new member and happy owner of the UN55D7000. I, like other members had experienced some Flash lighting in all four corners and some clouding at the bottom. This was noticeable during the evening when watching a movie with the black bars.

The strange thing (and good thing) is that now all of it is gone. I've had the TV for a full week, since last Monday which I brought from BB. It has the latest update since the day I turned it on and has been tweaked to my liking.

I've read this whole thread and was considering replacing it, but after I tried the tip for massaging the screen aka cleaning the screen with the provided cloth. I soon realized that this did the trick.

I started the process about two days ago and the first night, 3 of the corner flashlights were gone. The next day, I decided to clean the whole screen again using little to no pressure. Alas, the clouding and the last flashlight are all gone.

Could the cleaning (or massaging) of the screen be the remedy for the fix? Or is it a break in period?

Either way, I'm not complaining, now when watching a movie with bars they are pitch black with no side effects. I just thought I'd share my experience since there might be others considering replacing it. If you are, then I would at least give it a week or so and make sure you clean your whole screen a couple of times.

I'm so happy with the TV, everytime I turn it on, I'm in awe.

The digital audio output is set to surround.

Since your TV is 2.0 target, why not change it to 2.0. I bet you will not see any dropouts.

yes. I have similar experience as well! I dont know if it has any "break in" because my first panel never got better with regard to that. But the massaging did the trick. I should have tried it in the first panel and I probably wouldnt even have had to replace it. I was disappointed with the second and was willing to try the massaging method before I gave it up!

Now my TV has no flashlighting and clouding.. the picture is definitely awesome!

Could you all explain exactly what you're doing in regard to "massaging"? Likewise, are you only massaging the areas of the panel that are not uniform or the whole thing?

I'm assuming by massaging you mean rubbing the panel gently in a circular motion until you have covered the entire surface area?

How about a demonstration video?

Is 2.0 the same as stereo? The only options I have in the UVerse Digital Audio Output menu are stereo and surround.

Thanks.

Can anyone comment on the viewing angle on this set? I read that it's pretty narrow. I'm forced to kitty-corner my TV and do watch it from as much as 45-degrees off-center.

45'' is going to make it lose color and contrast

I personally just cleaned the whole screen using the provided cloth in a light circular motion (tv was off). I did however focus on the corners more. It took me about two cleanings within two days to eliminate all of the flaws.

When I got my second panel, it showed clouding and flashlighting in pitchblack room. So with the TV on, I gently rubbed panel where I could see the flashlighting and clouding... Did this couple times in two days.. Since I was essentially ready to give up and return the TV, I was looking for any more hint of clouding/flashlighting over the next few days and the panel stayed (and still is) clear of those problems.

I needed some help. My picture looks really grainy compared to my lg 55lv5500 screen that I just bought. Is that because I haven't changed the settings yet or is it a common problem?

A kind member in my own thread nicely informed that the TV I was considering at a warehouse club, UN55D7050XF would be in this series discussion thread.

Hello to similar TV owners. Of course, I am not an owner yet!

The 7050 seems odd in that has a square stand, I quite like it though. It also has a couple spec numbers lower than the more common 7000 model, but comes with 2 glasses. Furthermore, the package I was planning to get included the Shrek pack with 2 more glasses, and a blu ray player too.

However, it would only bit a tiny bit more money if at all, for me to get the 8000 model from an online retailer. I'd just have to wait and have it be harder to return if needed for defect.

What do you think?

Are there any UN55D7050XF owners here?

Is it worth spending the slightest bit more and dealing with more difficult return to get the 8000 model?

Thank you for your advice.

Generally I think they do. But the 60" in particular has mounting width specs that are different from "normal" 60-inch screens, and is therefore "officially" non-VESA standard? The screen is so lightweight that they use the same bolt hole distance (and bolt size/length) for the 60" as for a 46", even though the holes are supposed to be further apart! Check the diagram in the manual and you'll see it's non-standard for this particular size. The 60" came with plastic spacers that sink into the divots around the holes, making a flat back surface; this use of extra parts may be non-VESA too. I used the Samsung slim mount, but my impression was that any universal bracket (for a 46-50" screen) would work, if you had the proper bolts. The key is that the size must match the hole, and the length has to just barely miss bottoming out in the "pan" at the bottom of the hole, else you'll punch into the circuitry. These two numbers are clearly spelled out in the manual.

My current 40" Samsung LCD (few years old) isn't noticably different when at an angle. Will the D7000 be significantly worse due to being edge-lit or whatnot?

I guess I'll have to go check it out in person.

Is there any blur / ghosting / overdrive on the Samsung 55D7000 ?

In my 60'' version sitting at about 9 feet away, I start seeing contrast drop off if I sit at more than about 30-35 deg.. esp on the far end side of the panel (Which will be at considerably higher angle).
