Few points, what settings did you use to reproduce those issues?
If you've got the backlight/brightness amped way up, those results are to be expected.
If however, your backlight is around 8, and the brightness is around 45, and you can still see it like that, the panel has issues.
As suggested many times in this thread, a backlight of 8 or so, with the use of the eco sensor really makes a huge difference.
What most people don't realize is with the use of high intensity LED's, a backlight level of 8, is nearly equal to 14~16 on a panel with a different backlight system.
It would also be suggested, that you try another source of material to produce the grey screen. The AVS 709 disc is a great resource for test patterns.

I downloaded the AVS 709 test patterns. I'm not 100% familiar with how to use them all... but here goes.

The TV in the picture below is set up with the following basic settings.

Picture Mode Standard
Backlight 8
Constrast 98
Brightness 45
Sharpness 15
Color 50
Tint G50/R50

I used one of the 10% grayscale patterns from the AVS709. Here is the result:

Still not looking too good. The vertical streaks/lines are still very noticeable.

I have been comparing the und7000 and und6400 for some time now and had a picture quality question. When glancing at the forums I see many posts regarding the 7000's clouding/flashlighting issues. However when I look at the 6000/6400 thread I do not see nearly as many posts regarding this issue.

-My question is can anyone tell me if the 6000/6400 in particular has less flashlight/clouding issues then the 7000? Also is the PQ similar in the 2?

Thanks in advance!

The panel in the 7000 series is higher quality than the 6000 series. The biggest reason people are having complaints that you see is because the TV is much more expensive than the 6000 model so the expectation are much higher.
I believe the 7000 is much brighter than the 6000 models and this causes the Flashlight effect.
In the end you will get better picture quality overall if you go for the 7000 model as well as more functionality in general. It just takes a bit more work to get every ounce of PQ because of the additional options and features.

All edge-lit sets have the same issues, as mentioned above, the 7000 is a much better overall panel than any of the 6k series. Now having said that, generally you'll find information regarding issues a lot easier than people complimenting the sets, this is especially true for the more expensive sets.

It was mentioned above that some of the issues we had on the 7000 panels were do to the brightness, this isn't really true, the main reasons are, ultra-thin bezel and edge-lighting.

Expect things like this

And

For a good read, I'd suggest
http://asia.cnet.com/is-tv-brightnes...m-62213336.htm

To combat the issues, proper use of Backlight/Brightness settings combined with the ECO sensor can make nearly all of these issues disappear.

I have a 7000 that replaced a 6400. No doubt the 7000 has more clouding than my 6400 did and the blacks were definitely better with the 6400. After much tweaking I can live with the still present but reduced clouding on my 7000.
That being said the 7000 has a somewhat better picture despite the clouding.
The 7000 also has a lot more features and the 3D is better.

I agree, a good/ no- nonsense read. I've had my 7000 for over 2 months, followed this thread before and after purchase, used several suggestions, ignored more, and thoroughly enjoy it. I was an early adopter into the whole 1080 thing wwhen JVC introduced thier 1080i panel. That was actually a very good gamble. Also, have a Panasonic and Sony. With a quality feed, this panel blows them away. The only time I've seen some of the issues others are dealing with is when there's a totally blank screen like prior to, or in between the source actuaaly projecting an image. Even then it's not that bad. Alot, not all, of the pic's posted to show these issues seem to exemplify this scenario. If that's all I could see that would be annoying. However, if the the source is out-putting a black screen on my panel, it's BLACK. I've not calibrated and gi2indKing said he's not too familiar w/ the process. Could his download be the issue? Garbage in, garbage out...

Sorry this is off topic, tried to find answers in the ps3mediaserver forum but thought I should ask in the tv specific forum and you guys are the pros you know!

ps3mediaserver is working great now if I select from source list and navigate tho the video. But when previously using mezzmo I was able to just use the search function and it would pull up anything in the mezzmo server.
Do not seem to have that same function with ps3mediaserver, Is this correct operation? or am I missing something else?

not true. My new panel looks identical, and samsung says that there is no issue. And the edge lit panel for the d7000 should look like that

See my above post to cnet, that's normal, and what Samsung would consider normal. There are for sure some things that are considered normal, but we can't muddle the different issues, the heavy banding like that isn't generally considered normal.

Thanks for all the quick responses. To keep things simple, could the flashlight/clouding be more noticable on the 7000 then on the 6400? Since it has a thinner edge?

I've seen flawless panels from both types of panels, and panels with the issue very much visible on both. It's really a crap shoot. The 7000 is a much better panel overall.

PC Richard (ny/long island) refused an exchange without sending their in house service dept out to my house. They showed up Saturday and the service tech said he never saw my issue before, and that the panel was definitely bad. I demanded an exchange and it was granted. I pick up my new d7000 tomorrow. Hopefully this was just bad luck...fingers crossed.

I tried to search the thread for this, but too many parameters I'm afraid for it to give a response.
I have the Samsung UN55D7000 TV, Charter cable with HDMI out on the cable box, and a Yamaha XR-V667 a/v receiver. On the few local HD channels I have, there are 2 or 3 that will not give the sound. Video is perfect. On one channel, Fox, I get sound during the show feed, but commercials and local news has no audio. Any ideas what this could be? When I first hooked it up, there was no sound on any channel pass through to the TV when the receiver was off, but hooked up to my laptop to play music videos worked on both the TV and the receiver sound. Then it started working, except for these 2 or 3 HD channels. Thanks! Jim.
Test something, go into your STB, change the audio out to "Stereo"
Make sure pro-logic is disabled on your AVR, it should be set to stereo, or even direct.

Try that.
This is a common issue, the channel is sending out 5.1 when the source isn't 5.1, this causes the channel to seem to have no audio. It's not a TV issue, but rather a communications failure between the AVR and STB.
Thanks nitra for the quick response. I'll try that in a little bit! I figured it was something simple. Jim.

edit: nitra, that did take care of it. Didn't get back on to thank you again last night, had an issue with SAP on and giving comments for the visual impaired during a show I was watching. Was driving me nuts!! Thanks again!

I went to my friend house over the weekend to watch boxing on pay-per view.........he has a 80" and a 70" sharp in his massive basement. Well my point is after looking at both tv's none of them where half as good as my Samsung. I mean Samsung has issues, but if you get a half decent set......bwoy will it blow the competition sky high. Only the sony 929 can compare, for twice the price of the Sammy. Also when it comes to 3d the Samsung beat the Sony 929 hands down........sharp don't even come close. I think Samsung main problem is quality control across the board..........too much set variations out there.

Hi All,

Hope this is allowed...

I am returning my D7000 and have two pairs of SSG-3050GB 3D glasses that I'd sell and ship for cheap. They've been used for about 10 minutes each, in total! I still have the original boxes, too.

Message me if you are interested.

Just looked last night, I got lucky and got an H303 screen. I've not seen any flash lighting or clouding on mine. I've had it for 6 days so far and I'm just astonished at the picture. Will try a 3D movie this weekend and see how that looks. Thanks for all the great information here! Jim.

Just want to join the thread. Got a un60d7000 a couple of weeks ago - was looking at the 60 inch sharp tv's at BJ's, but the Samsung has a better pic. We got a good deal from a local hifi shop - they want to clear out the 2011 models to make room for the 2012 models. I also convinced the wife to upgrade the receiver (integra 40.3). The tv replaced a broken 720p Samsung dlp. Man - the 1080p led is a big jump from the dlp. Also, have used a lot of settings from this thread to fine tune the pic. Wife and I are going to watch Underworld Awakening on Blu ray tonight

I just had my panel replaced, I have posted some of the picture couple
ages back. I still have screen uniformity problem. I have colorimeter for my TV to calibrate. My back light is at 5 right now to get 30-40 luminance. Gamma is at 2.2.

Anyone know if the Costco version of this model is still sold in their stores (UN60D7050)? That model has everything I'm looking for.

The Aurora and 205th location had 'em a week or so ago 55 and 60. I grabbed the 55 and strangely (after poring over this thread) it has no problems whatsoever that I can see a month plus later. 5 years warranty FTW!!

Cool bud, can you post a picture from 10-50 IREs? You can grab the download from forum
I am curious on how a uniform your TV back light is.

I haven't gotten around to burning avs709 yet, if you've got a link to an image I can throw on a thumbdrive I could give it a shot using my cell camera, however unless there's some glaring deficiencies (that I haven't noticed with normal use using a combination of settings found in the forum), cell phone pics suck
