I'll apologize in advance in this is answered elsewhere, but I couldn't find it anywhere.
Last night the the TV was fine, today the picture is very, very dim. Sound is fine, only the picture is an issue. I tried switching inputs and everything, Blue Ray, Wii, Cable Box all give the same result. The picture is there, it is just very, very dim. You really have to look closely to see the picture, but it is there.
I tried resetting the display form the menu, no help. I tried calling Samsung. they tried the self diagnostic feature and checked that the firmware was up to date. They were no help. Of course the warranty is expired, so they said I will have to take it to be repaired.
Anyone else seen this? Up till today I have loved this TV and have been selling all my friends on how great Samsung TVs are. I may have to change my tune. Thanks for any help you can provide.
I hate to tell you this but it sounds like the LCD panel, or rather it's light source, is shot. Most of the time lighting source and is soldered to the panel so when the lighting source goes bad the panel has to be replaced. I work in IT and come across this a lot in smaller monitors and since a TV is just a large monitor with a TV tuner I am pretty certain this is the issue. If you are lucky you will only have to have the LED array replaced. If you are unlucky and it is soldered on you will have to have the whole panel replaced. This may be more expensive than it would be to purchase last years model new from a retail store.
