Before any function button, press "Receiver" button first (which enter into Receiver Mode).

I have my roku box connected via hdmi to the cbl/sat input source on my 609. Sometimes when I toggle between input sources the little black band that is across the bottom of the screen that tells you what input source you are on is reddish pink instead of black and the screen has a greenish hue to it. When it does correct itself the screen appears a little washed out until I stream an amazon HD source and then the colors come back and are are vivid like they are supposed to be. Is this some kind of handshake issue? (An hdmi cable issue? I have tried 3 different cables) Is something going wrong already with that input source on the AVR? It corrects itself if I toggle between input sources. It seems to happening more frequently lately. Just wondered if anyone has any opinions on what could be going on here. This never occurs with my set top box . Thanks

Had the 609 for about 2 months now and the unit is great!! Spent a lot of time tinkering with the settings and got it just where I want it. Sound quality is incredible on this thing. Big upgrade from my Denon AVR-887. Highly recommended!

On a Panasonic SA-BX500 I had (still have) I had a similar problem. When changing HDMI inputs, sometimes the entire screen would go reddish-pink. Powering off and back on would cure, but about 6 months later, one day I went to turn it on and . . . DOA. Lucky for me, it was still in warranty. One of the boards needed to be replaced, and now, 2 years later, it has never done it again. So, depending on how much warranty time you have left, you might want to continue monitoring the patient, or you might want to get it looked at. I would snap a few photos when the problem is occurring in case you run up against the "we can't recreate the problem" issue.

Question about DLNA on the TX-NR609. I have Windows Media Player 12 in Win7 set to share all of my music through DLNA on my home network. I can view the media server and and stream music just fine on my PS3. However, when I go to DLNA on the Onkyo, the only media server I see is the one from my DirecTV DVR. There is no media server shown for my PC. It was intermittently working for a few days and has now disappeared.

I can control the AVR using ORemote and have no other issues with network connection or streaming. Pulling the plug and resetting doesn't seems to help. Anybody have ideas which settings I could possibly change on either end to make my PC show up in DLNA again?

TIA

How are the sound quality on these compared to a denon xx12 series or the onkyo 1007. I would be getting the 809.

Is it possible you need to allow the Onkyo to connect on the Windows side? My HTPCs have been well-behaved here, but I use a 3rd party DLNA server for my media. You can always try one of those. There are a few to choose from and they are free too.

I've tried opening up my sharing settings as much as possible. And in the Network and Sharing center streaming options, the 609 is listed as "Allowed" for media to stream to it.

Which free 3rd party DLNA servers are the best, if you have some suggestions?

As an aside, oRemote is fantastic. Thanks for all your work on it!

UPDATE: Downloaded and installed Serviio after doing some searching. It's a free DLNA server and it has worked fantastically.

I connected the Roku box to the hdmi aux input on the front of the reciever and this seems to have fixed the issue. I just bought the 609 about 5 months ago so I think I have about 19 months left on my warranty.

Can individual hdmi inputs sources go bad or would the whole hdmi board go bad? I have experienced some issues lately with one hdmi input source. I moved device to front aux hdmi and it seems to have cured my issue.

Hey guys looking for some help on what I should set the hz to on my receiver.

I have an Onkyo 609 receiver with Polk Audio TS1 floorstanding speakers, and a CS10 center speaker, and samsung htib surrounds.

Sometime when I'm watching cable, I get light cracks out of the center channel I believe, when the volume on the show gets louder. I'm not sure if this is a receiver, speaker, or cable problem.

Also, is there any other tips or tricks I should take advantage of to maximize my system?

Thanks,

Have you confirmed that the center channel speaker wire is firmly plugged in on both ends?

Yes, it only seems to happen when there's a lot asked of it. Like a heavy action scene, or someone yelling or something like that.

Hi Guys,

I recently purchased an Onkyo 609 to pair with the JAMO S426 (5 speakers) and the Jamo S210 Sub 8" 200W. I have a Samsung 46" LNT4671F, PS3, xbox360, LGBD570 (BDplayer) all connected via HDMI and my Wii using component cables.

I noticed that the Jamo's are at 6ohms 100W and this receiver uses 125W for 6ohms. Not sure if I should get speakers that run at 8ohms (i.e. energy CF70 or JBL's) I ran the Audyssey setup and noticed that the hz were set to 40hz. And per the manual 80hz is used for THX.

I switched the HZ to 80 to test it out and ran transformers 2 (IMAX part) to re-calibrate my speakers, and noticed that I get more of a bassy sound and getting a lil bit of highs. I did this for 45 minutes to recalibrate and noticed the receiver was running really hot. The fan on top didn't turn on and I read on this forum that it will automatically turn on once it reaches a certain temp (which it never did).

My question is, should I rely on Audyssey and stick to 40hz? Also, is it advisable to update the firmware right away via USB? I also bought the dongle and read a lot of bad reviews regarding this.

Also, I'm new to banana plugs, will this work for this reciever and the speakers? Will a 12 gauge wire work best (front and center speakers are 13ft away from the hearing position).

I appreciate anyone's input on this.

I've been trolling this site for quite some time, but have yet to post. My Onkyo tx sr804 is giving me some issues so I'm in need of an upgrade. My current set-up is all Def Tech: BP 7006 fronts, C/L/R 2002 center, and BP 1.2x rears. I'm on a slight budget and am considering an Onkyo tx nr609 or Yamaha A800. I'm just torn on how much wattage I actually need. I'm assuming I'm fine either route I go but just want to make sure. BTW the super towers and the center are all rated at 25-250 watts. Thanks for the input.

With such a fine speaker setup, it would be a waste to be restricted to the lowest version of Audyssey 2EQ in the 609. Rather you would be much better served upgrading to the 709 at least and get Audyssey MultEQ XT. If on a tight budget, you can get a refurb with 1 year warranty from Accessories4less. I wouldn't worry too much about power as those speakers are very easy to drive, using <5W/CH at most listening levels let alone anywhere near what the AVR or speakers are rated.

Thanks for the advice. Im very ignorant to the differences between upconversion chipsets and whatnot. If anyone would be so patient as to explain or to post a link to a thread it would be greatly appreciated. Id use the search button but theres so many topics to decipher.
Just did a bit of research. Maybe the 709 is a better choice for ~$200.

Onkyo support finally said they can't do anything and I should return it to Amazon if I'm in my return window. Looks like this thing is going back. I'll post an update if I end up getting another NR609.

I sent the Onkyo back to Amazon and picked up a Denon 2112CI (from EE) for just a little bit more. I like the Denon, and I don't have the Tivo HD optical audio issues anymore so I'm happy I switched. AirPlay is a nice feature as well, I think I'll use it more than I originally thought. I lost one component input with the switch, but I can live with my Wii back on composite RCAs until all my devices go HDMI.

In the end I'm not sure if the Tivo HD audio issues on the NR609 happen for people using HDMI or if it's just for us using optical audio.

You can add a component switch or a Wii2HDMI.

Hi all, new to the forum and to this Onkyo 509, have a quick question. I'm going to be using this thing at a pretty basic level, at least for now. I'm set up with HDMI inputs from the DirecTV box and DVD player, and HDMI out to the TV. Everything seems to be working so far with those.

One of the features that I am looking forward to is using the USB input to play my iPod through the receiver. This works except that I'm not getting the on-screen display. I can navigate the iPod's menus through the receiver display but that's tedious. The manual says I need to press "Mode" to switch from Standard Mode control to Extended Mode control in order to get the on-screen display, but nothing happens when I do. I've tried pressing "Mode" on both the remote and on the receiver's front panel.

So for now I'm stuck in Standard Mode control, which doesn't give me the on-screen display on the TV. (The on-screen display for the receiver's menus works fine, just not for the iPod.) Any ideas for why I'm not able to switch to Extended Mode?

The 10/31/2011 update addresses the following:
1.
Supports Onkyo Remote App for Android ver. 1.00
* App update is also necessary
2.
Adds support of Spotify control via Remote App for Android

Just set up my 609 and am really liking it. Can the on screen display work while playing a blu-ray? I can get it to work on every connection but the blu-ray one. And one more thing, when I turn the receiver on it always defaults to cab/sat. Is this normal. I have the sat as my primary pass through, could that be why? Not really a big deal just curious. Never mind I just keep forgetting about hitting the receiver button first.

Good luck

I am also experiencing the network lockup issue.

I must physically unplug the power cord before Network functionality is restored.

On my last 1-hour session of listening to internet radio, at least 3 times, each time requiring a complete reboot (cutting power) to restore network functionality.

I have the latest firmware- I also used O-Remote, but I'm pretty sure I've experienced the issue without it.

Is it possible the lockup is directly related to the O-Remote app?

I just got the NR509 and love it so far. Is there any way to control this thing from a PC on the network? I know there are iPhone and Android apps, but I really want to be able to control it from a PC and so far I haven't been able to find a program that works well.

Any thoughts?

Sorry if this has been asked and answered already, but I haven't been able to find anything on it.

Thanks!
