Onkyo TX-NR609, TX-NR509, TX-SR309 Thread - Page 6

Hi,
I'm looking for a good AVR with the ability to do a decent FRC over HDMI from 50 to 60hz and newest Onkyo with Qdeo chip seems a good pick. I'm afraid that this feature is locked in this model as owner manual does not give any hint about it (only NTSC/PAL compatibility, which could mean 50hz in 50 hz out, for me a deal-breaker). Can anyone confirm this ability?

I already did not decided to invest in DVDO edge, Altona HD560 and other simmilar equipment.

Now I understand the discrepancy. You are referring to the set up menu and the options available in Input/Output Assign, where THROUGH acts as you note and I think choosing either AUTO or 1080p (if your TV accepts a 1080p signal) will give you the highest resolution output through the 609. I am referring to the HOME screen PICTURE MODE option where (p, 53) THROUGH "changes resolution" (upconverts) and DIRECT "does not change resolution" (no upconversion).

In summary, the Setup Input/Output assignment tells the AVR what you want it to do with the video signal when you allow it to modify it. The Home Picture Mode allows you to decide for that input what you want done.

Any help on the best eq settings for a sub? I dont seem to be getting much out of my sub after the Audyssey tested my set up. My sub is a BIC V1020.

It depends on the room. You attenuate the peak frequencies, and accentuate the null frequencies, which change from room to room, and change if you move your sub. If you've run Audyssey, a lot of people go into the menu and tweak the sub level up about 3dB. Don't change the knob on the sub though, as it will throw off Audyssey's settings.

hey guys i started the firmware update on my new TX-NR609 and it went through the first 2 things fine and now its been stuck on ARM Writing at 12% for over an hour now? What should i do?

Did you get it to work? I got an error message when I first tried the firmware update. I tried it again and it worked fine.

nope, it stayed at 12% for over 2 hours then the power went out cause the storms. Gotta wait till tomorrow to try again due to more storms

The 609 and 509 have Audyssey 2EQ, which does not EQ the subwoofer output.

You need an external EQ, like a Behringer 1124, and measurement tools, like REW and an SPL meter, to tame your SW response with these receivers.

Audyssey MultEQ and XT are in the higher level models, which do attempt to EQ the SW channel.

The only thing Audyssey will do in the 609/509, as noted, is adjust the level and distance.

And I disagree with Augerhandle's advice: go ahead and adjust the SW gain as you see fit: Audyssey is a tool, and if you want more bass, go ahead and give yourself more bass. Especially since Audyssey can't do anything about the SW EQ, so the relative boominess/bass content is very dependent on the frequency of the material, and you might be happy with something different from what the (basic) Audyssey algorithm has decided is "right".

looking forward to it - it will be replacing an onkyo 600 that turned 9 this week and is still running like a champ - at 395 I could not pass it up. I was looking at the new CI series of Denons, but the 2312 which is what I need because of the legacy optical digital and component connections would have been $650 at least.. so this should be a great deal!

Damn, I have to get to Fry's during lunch. I picked one up there for $499 about 10 days ago, and with this I get about $110 back.

I have been looking into android apps to control the 609 - looks like there is one - OnkyTroller - installed it.. now I just need the 609 Anyone else using it?

They are waiting for some additional info. They had a 2nd guy call and he identified himself as a Fry's employee then asked the vendor to fax over a quote.

Yup, Vann's caught on to what they were doing (obviously) and sent a reply to them telling them to knock it off and check the website for the "current" price. It,s wonderful what you learn when they set down the phone and they do not put you on hold.

So it was kicked up to corporate. If they don't have an answer by the time I get off work, I'll have to do it the "hard way" and get my order in before e sale ends.

I ordered mine 395....$30 cheaper than the ebay grey market prices :-)
