But this is my second 509 in less than a week, now it is showing the same issues as the last one and wondered if anyone else has trouble.

HDMI Game port connected to a sony PS3, some times more often than not, when I boot the PS3, the sceen never shows that its connected, only a blue screen exists. Other times I hear the sound, but no video image, then sometimes it works.

I thought it may be the cable, and have ruled that out by connecting to the HDMI on the TV, I also tried the other ports on the Av unit with no issues.

The game port worked for a day or so, so I am wondering (hoping) if perhaps its in the set up? I have done a reset, but to no avail. I am currently doing a USB jumpdrive firmware update.

Anything ya'll may suggest would be a great help.
Thank you,
Tol

In I/O assign, what is your Monitor Resolution setting? Auto? Are you using your ps3 for BR or Games? For fault finding, try BR and fix your Res at 1080p/24 and see if your hdmi handshaking issues disappear. Assuming your tv can handle this one. Else if your games are 720p, fix to this.

Mine is the 809, but should be similar. I had one of these, pic attached, ($5 - auction site) hanging around, and it works great. Charges up phone too.

I control it from menu system of Oremote. Album Art comes up too.

I am trying to update my firmware on a new unit. I keep getting error code: DL ERROR 0-14.
I have tried twojumpdrives and the same issue, I do not have the eithernet cable attached, which it says to have in the instructions...do I need this?

My USB folder hiarachy is; USB/firmware files
There may be a hidden file called recycle.
I plugged in the usb stick, turned on the usb, highlighted the first update file.

The clicked reciever/setup/update via usb and initiated the process, which gave me the erro codes which is:
The firmware file was not foundin the root folder of the usb, or for another model. (Verified TX-NR509 files from site)

I downloaded the zip to my desktop, extracted directly to jumpdrive.

Any ideas on what I am doing wrong?

Update: I did indeed have the wrong file on the drive: I had TX-NR5009, rather than the TX-NR509

I have the UP-A1. It's nice in that the connection is in the back, so no USB cable sticking out the front. The only drawback is that it does not display album artwork while playing.

I turned the receiver off and back on and everything was fine. I know it's not the TiVo, cable or TV as I have used roughly a half dozen receivers there without any issue.

Happened again tonight. The bottom of the screen was all static. I guess it goes back tomorrow...

If it doesn't work after the reset, then it's likely an issue with that particular HDMI4 jack. Try setting the PS3 "Deep Color Output" to OFF to see if that makes any difference. Also note, that although not likely in your case, you can't necessarily rule out the cable itself just because it works connected straight to the TV.

So far after the firmware update, HDMI game port is being read. I spoke to customer service, and the lady asked what firmware i currently had. She was surprised that the one shipped with the unit was so old and no updates where present.

I was able to find the deep color output menu, it was really buried. I will save this as my first choice should the issue return.

I made some other changes in the PS3 video area as I have it pluged into a new sharp 4 color( the one with the yellow combined with the standard RGB color format) 60".

I went onto the PS3 website to find out more details on the video changes I am implementing as the unit itself shows very little details.

Thank you for helping me out.

Kind of a longshot, but you may check your speaker wire connections and ensure that no braids are touching the reciever chassis. Perhaps its grounding.

It's definitely the receiver. Tonight I turned it off and back on and everything was fine. TiVo was paused and I didn't touch the TV.

OK... so I've caught wind that "Santa" is giving me an Onkyo TX-NR509 for xmas. I've already got a good selection of both new and used HDMI cables and TOSlink cables. I want to make sure I get it right the first time xmas morning!

If I'm connecting every input to my new receiver and then out to the TV, what's the best way to do it to leverage the best performance? Will there be any difference using say optical for my bluray player, or WDTVLive? I would still have to run HDMI for the video signal, correct? Is it possible to run both? Will the receiver acknowledge the optical sound input over the HDMI's sound input?

Does anyone know the 509's recievers remote control code?

I am trying to watch a movie with Netflix Streaming from my TV, and do not get audio from my receiver. I have the Onkyo 509 and a Panasonic ST30 TV. I have my cable box and Blu-ray player connected to the receiver via HDMI, and the TV connected to my receiver's HDMI Out port.

...Is there a setting within the receiver or TV I need to change? Or a certain channel the receiver needs to be on?

Does your TV connect to Netflix via a wireless connection? Try presssing the tv/cd button on the remote and see if that helps.

Yes it does, and I already tried that...still no sound.
(I actually clicked every single "input selector" option on the receiver's remote and none of them worked)

I also noticed that when I go into the setup menu on the actual TV and switch the Audio to "Home Theater" (rather than TV), it says "Please Wait" then automatically swtiches itself back to TV again...

If I change it to "Custom" mode, then take the disc out and put it back in again, it switches back to "Cinema." If I switch it to "Custom" and go to the settings, for example, and adjust something such as "HDMI Content," the TV automatically switches back to "Cinema" again ...and it is driving me NUTS!

Is there any way I can make (whichever device) save "Custom" as my default setting, rather having it switch to "Cinema" every time I put a movie in?

This problem is still happening for me. I was told that turning VIERA Link "Off" on the TV would solve it, but it has not. Any suggestions?

As long as there are no HDMI handshake issues, using HDMI is your best bet as it transfers both audio and video. If you do for some reason use both HDMI (video) and optical (audio) you can use the "Audio Selector" (p. 46) to select the "optical" input.

Set VierraLink to ON and HDMI Control (RIHD) to ON as well as plugging the HDMI cable from the 509 into the HDMI(ARC) jack on the ST30 (usually #1) and select TV on the 509 remote. If still no joy, then ensure the "Audio Return Ch (ARC)" setting (p. 48) is set to AUTO.

Did you try turning the HDMI Control (RIHD) to OFF as well? If still an issue and the ARC feature isn't working for you, you may want to connect the GT30 to the 590 with an optical cable instead of using ARC.

No, the but the AVR does have to be somehow connected to your wireless router in some fashion ... either direct cable connection or wireless bridge. Once connected you can access the AVR using your iphone from anywhere in the house the iphone itself has access to your wireless network.

so if i just hook it up via ethernet the ipone control app will work with it? just to be clear it will not be connected to my router but my wall jack. will this work?

Were you ever able to update firmware? If not, try another USB drive. I have seen cases where some USB drives will not work, while others will.

You will not get HD audio (DTS-MA, TrueHD) over optical audio connection.

Yes I was able to get it uploaded to the AV, thanks 4mula.

Now if I could find the remote reviever code to input into my dish remote I would be set. (Dish remote is IR), so I need to use it for volume, or at least would like to.

Speaking or remotes, does the AV remote light up? I see clear buttons like it should, but nothing in the manual.

No light up, the remotes on these (I have the 609) really suck. I kept the remote I had for the 705. It lights up, and it is a learning remote, so no need to plug in codes. You might be able to use the 705 remote for dish. It is part number RC-693M, and they are pretty cheap online to buy.

Was done. Still did not work - and like I said, I noticed that when I hit the menu button when watching Netflix, the default speakers were set to TV. When I switch it to Theater I get a "please wait" then it automatically switches back to TV again...

Try resetting both the TV (likely just unplugging power for a few minutes) and the AVR (using reset procedure in manual).

Can anyone using the new Remote 2 App help me out on this. I have a TX-N
R609 and while in Pandora, I'm trying to do a thumbs up or down on the song that is playing. I go to the page with the circular "Enter" button in the app and attempt to scroll down using the down arrow. However the arrows seem to not be functional. I have been unable to find a way to arrow up and down or cursor left and right. I am using an iPad2. Please help.

Not sure of your budget, but have you considered Apple tv2? No need for a dock then as you can walk around your house and switch your music wireless through your phone. Its also nice for photos and anyone else that has an iphone that comes to your house.

The network protocol has different "commands" depending on what function you are doing, so the disc control in that app is for the OSD menu - like the setup pages. Onkyo did not put any capability to do the thumbs up or down in their current protocol. AFAIK, you need to use the IR remote or a 3rd party solution - though admittedly the IR remote would be best in this case since network apps have no visibility as to what you are trying to select in this particular case.
